Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 222: You’re Just a Paranoid Lunatic
"Nothing much, just heard some noise here and came to check what’s going on."
Summer Lowell said, glancing up at the car in the distance. Seeing Maxim Sinclair still staring at her, her face turned stern, and she turned towards the pavilion in the garden.
Summer walked briskly, not noticing the complex and indescribable look Maxim gave her from behind.
For the entire afternoon that followed, Maxim did not come to disturb her.
Summer rare enjoyed a quiet afternoon.
Until evening when the sky began to darken. The butler looked at Maxim, who had not come out of the study upstairs, then at Summer, who was in the garden pavilion reluctant to enter the house, sighed deeply, called a maid to bring Maxim down for dinner, and went to the garden to find Summer himself. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Summer heard the footsteps of the butler approaching her in the garden. Her fingers unconsciously picked at the book beside her, "Are you here to call me for dinner? But I’m not really hungry right now. Let your young master eat first. I’ll sit here a bit longer; this place is nice, and the breeze is quite comfortable."
The butler knew well enough that she was deliberately avoiding Maxim, "The young master is still working in the study. In my opinion, he will probably wait until you’re hungry to eat together. Don’t worry, the dishes are kept warm on the hot plate, so whenever you go to eat, the food will be hot."
With that, the butler was about to leave, but Summer suddenly called out to him. Her tone and expression seemed indifferent, yet the butler easily saw through her thoughts.
"Did you say your young master is still working in the study and hasn’t come down for dinner?"
The butler nodded, showing concern and even looked up at Summer with a pleading expression, "When the young master gets busy with work, he forgets about time, and eating becomes the least of his concerns. If you have the heart, why not go up personally and bring him down? In this house, probably only you have the ability to do that."
"Young people focus on their careers, and it’s still early. Eating dinner after one or two more hours isn’t a problem."
Summer was actually hoping Maxim would stay in the study and not come out. She had already had enough of the awkward atmosphere when dining with him.
Moreover, when Maxim looked at her, his gaze was so weighty that it made her feel suffocated.
The butler didn’t expose her thoughts, smiling as he nodded and said, "Alright," then insisted on bringing her to the dining table: "Then, Young Madam, you can start eating first. I’ll check on how the young master is doing."
With these words, he noticed Summer’s anxiety and quietly added another line: "Just to let you know beforehand, I only dare to peek from the doorway. I wouldn’t dare go in to disturb the young master."
Hearing this, Summer was relieved. Not daring to enter was perfect; she could enjoy a delicious dinner alone.
Unfortunately, Summer wasn’t pleased for too long.
The butler was about to go upstairs when he noticed Maxim coming down the stairs.
He glanced at Summer, who was eating with her head down, and pretended to be mute just for this occasion.
So, when Summer, happily eating, looked up to find Maxim sitting beside her, she almost choked on her food.
"Cough, cough..."
Maxim’s expression remained gentle, as always. He pulled out a few napkins, handing them to a flushed Summer, with a slightly helpless look in his eyes and voice: "Are you this excited just seeing me? Look at you, turning all red from choking."
Summer finally managed to catch her breath, pulled out a couple of napkins herself, covering her mouth to gently cough, and glanced around looking for the butler.
The butler, guessing she would blame him, had already slipped outside to enjoy some leisure.
Maxim followed her gaze around and curiously asked, "You seem to be looking for something?"
Summer crumpled the napkin into a ball and casually tossed it into the nearby trash can, "You misread, I’m not looking for anything. Didn’t you say you weren’t having dinner? Why the sudden change of heart?"
Maxim, who hadn’t uttered such words at all, figured out quickly whose words had been spoken and also understood why the butler had said them.
With a smile hovering at the corner of his lips, Maxim inched closer, his eyes fixed intently on Summer’s: "Isn’t it that you don’t seem to want to know news about me? Yet you even know my habit of skipping meals, such attention to detail. You’ve only been back here for one night."
"I wasn’t observing you. Your butler just happened to mention it to me."
"I see. I figured. Such a cold and heartless person like you wouldn’t care about your own husband. Poor butler of mine, managing household affairs while also worrying about our relationship."
Maxim feigned a sigh, even raised a hand to his eyes, pretending to wipe tears, though his eyes remained dry.
Summer felt uncomfortable seeing his act, clattering her chopsticks down with a "snap" and stood up.
Maxim, quick and nimble, caught her arm, his tone gentle though his action was firm as he pressed her back into the chair: "Don’t throw a tantrum, finish your meal. Only when you’re healthy can Dr. David Dalton perform psychological intervention to help you remember everything sooner."
"The doctor wants to conduct a psychological intervention?" Summer looked up, suspiciously at him, "Could there be some underhanded tactics between you two? I know some psychologists are really impressive and can hypnotize people. Are you planning to hypnotize me into being your wife?"
"You have valid concerns, but they shouldn’t be directed at me," Maxim’s expression suddenly grew cold, "The person you should be cautious of and must be cautious of is Justin Huxley. If it weren’t for his incompetence, he’d have probably had a psychologist conduct a psychological intervention for you."
Summer couldn’t grasp the cause-and-effect in his words: "If my senior wanted to hypnotize me, he would have done it back in Greston, but he didn’t."
"That’s why I said he’s incompetent."
Maxim’s initially stern expression erupted into laughter after hearing Summer’s words. His laughter rocked him back and forth, drawing the attention of those in the kitchen.
Summer couldn’t understand why Maxim was laughing like this; she only felt Maxim’s demeanor was terrifying.
He seemed like a madman.
Just like Justin Huxley.
Fortunately, Maxim stopped laughing soon enough. He rubbed his chin, looking at Summer with a touch of schadenfreude: "I’m really curious. When you truly recover your memory one day and recall what you said to me today, what will your reaction be? It’s really interesting."
"That’s for future discussion, I’m full. You continue enjoying yourself here," Summer put down her chopsticks and got up to leave. This time, Maxim didn’t stop her.
