Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 247: Everyone’s Using Me, Aren’t They!
Vivian Sullivan left in a hurry, not even noticing Summer Lowell’s longing eyes hoping she would take her along.
As the door closed, Justin Huxley looked at Summer, who was already standing up with her bag, eager to leave together, and chuckled: "If you run out now, you might still catch up. But seeing how urgent Vivian seemed, maybe it’s best not to add to her trouble."
Summer, thinking the same, sat down again with a look of helplessness.
Then, realizing that her desire to leave was a bit too obvious, she clumsily explained to Justin: "I was thinking of going with Vivian to see if I could help somehow, like driving her for example."
Justin knew she was just making polite excuses and didn’t call her out: "She’s a doctor, you’re a designer. You wouldn’t be much help even if you wanted to."
Summer let out a couple of awkward laughs and quickly changed the subject: "I think we’re pretty much done with the meal. How about we call it a day and meet up again when there’s time?"
Having finally managed to arrange this meeting, Justin was not about to let her go so easily without getting to his agenda.
"What’s the rush? We haven’t finished our conversation yet," Justin leisurely poured himself a cup of tea, "or are you in a hurry to leave to avoid me?"
"Of course not," Summer lied blatantly, "I just don’t want to hear you talk about that absurd... supposedly Kaelmar nonsense anymore."
"Is it me who’s talking nonsense, or you who don’t dare to face the truth?"
Justin got up and poured Summer a cup of tea as well, "In all of Stellarion, those wanting to marry Maxim Sinclair could line up along the entire Gilden River. You, being so close, must have been tempted?"
"Think about it, if you were in my place, how would you choose?" Summer couldn’t find a way to refute him, so she simply tossed the question back at him.
Justin had anticipated this move and smiled calmly: "I might obediently stay by Maxim Sinclair’s side, use his help to advance my career, not expecting to spend my life with him, but at least sail this big ship of The Sinclair Group to great career heights."
Hearing his answer, Summer was not surprised; in fact, she felt a sense of confirmation.
"How about that? Isn’t my realistic outlook a bit different from the image of an art-focused senior you had of me?"
Justin seemed indifferent to whatever image Summer had of him.
"It’s okay; if it wasn’t for all that’s happened between him and me, perhaps I would choose the path you mentioned too. After all, it’s a shortcut to get what you want without working so hard. Grinding away bit by bit is too tiring, and the future can seem bleak."
Summer deliberately said this to observe Justin’s reaction.
And to figure out what he really wanted.
"Then cooperating with me is also a good path?" Justin circled back to the topic, "After all, if you have no interest in Maxim Sinclair, exploiting him won’t hurt anyone. What a convenient step to success."
Summer looked at him with an indifferent gaze: "What you’re suggesting isn’t very tempting to me. Plus, working with you is too risky. I’d be the one anxious about inside jobs and cooperation. I don’t think my intelligence could match wits with Maxim Sinclair."
Given Maxim Sinclair’s mind, Summer thought even ten of her couldn’t match him.
She’d have to be insane to cooperate with Justin to deal with Maxim.
Stealing just one confidential file had already caused her so much trouble. If she really cooperated with Justin to strike from behind against Maxim...
Besides, who’s being sincere and who’s not...
She wouldn’t engage in such a dangerous bargain.
Seeing Justin seemed inclined to continue, Summer couldn’t bear it anymore and spoke first: "Senior, you deceived me when I lost my memory, brought me back home, and even threw an engagement party with the real goal of using me to target Maxim Sinclair, right?"
The fragile peace they had maintained since meeting broke. Justin held his forehead, laughing softly: "You’re all grown up, yet still so impatient."
"What I said is the truth, isn’t it?" Summer dropped her smile, looked at Justin expressionlessly, "I sincerely called you my senior, and you use me like this? Knowing full well Maxim Sinclair is still entangled with me, you did this to upset me?"
"I admit I was wrong in this matter. I used Maxim’s concern for you to deliberately disrupt his business. If Maxim hadn’t insisted on taking you away, I might have already snatched several projects from him by now."
Summer looked at Justin, who had no intention of hiding anything, puzzled: "You’re admitting it just like that?"
"What good would denying it do? If I’m not mistaken, hasn’t Maxim Sinclair emphasized that to you several times?"
Summer couldn’t quite grasp Justin’s intentions.
Justin put down his cluttered things and locked eyes with Summer: "What do you want to know? I’ll answer anything."
At that moment, many things flashed through Summer’s mind, but when she spoke, she changed her question: "The reason you came to see me today is to discuss cooperating with me to steal from Maxim Sinclair, isn’t it? Then why be so honest about using me?"
"Cooperation is all about sincerity," Justin noticed signs of wavering in Summer’s expression and pressed subtly, "Can you guarantee Maxim Sinclair hasn’t used you? Used you to test the Huxley Family’s stance."
"That’s why I refused your cooperation offer. I don’t want to be involved with either of your families." Summer cut off what Justin was going to say next.
Justin was in no hurry, even laughing: "It’s a bit too early to make that decision now. You can go back and think it over carefully, then decide whether to cooperate with me."
"There’s no need for further thought. I can decide now," Summer shook her head slowly, "I’ve had enough of these deceptions and plots. I’m just a jewelry designer, and I don’t want to get entangled in your family disputes."
"But you’ve already been dragged into it; until a conclusion is reached, you won’t be free unless you leave Maxim Sinclair’s side promptly and stay far away from both families."
"I could escape this mess if you weren’t trying so hard to drag me in," Summer pointedly highlighted his scheme.
