Chapter 711: Chapter 369: Extra: No Longer Able to Be Strong Before You (2)

"Death."

"Death?"

"Yes, severe rejection will only make your heart weaker and weaker, until... death."

Christine Quinn leaned back in the chair, her face slightly pale and lost in thought.

Rebecca Quentin was making a phone call to Howard Geoffrey, her face unable to hide her excitement.

Beep, beep—

The phone connected after just a couple of rings on the other end.

Rebecca Quentin couldn’t suppress her joy and impatiently said to Howard Geoffrey on the other line, "Honey, do you remember the good news I told you about before? I want you to come back now, I want to share this..."

Before she could finish her sentence, a sweet and respectful voice came from the other side, "I’m sorry, Ma’am, the President is in a meeting right now and didn’t bring his phone..."

Hearing Catherine Swift’s voice on the phone, Rebecca Quentin lightly bit her lip and greeted warmly, "Hello, Assistant Swift."

Catherine Swift continued, "If you need, Madam, I can bring the phone to the President now."

Rebecca Quentin’s voice turned a bit dejected, "Never mind... just ask Howard to call me back after the meeting."

"Alright."

"Goodbye."

Ending the call, Rebecca Quentin sighed softly, put her phone back in her bag, and muttered, "Annoying... can’t he just leave the phone with the PR assistant during a meeting?"

Leaning back against the leather seat, Rebecca Quentin pouted, "Isn’t the PR assistant supposed to be at the PR department? How come she’s now on the President’s office floor?"

Rebecca Quentin’s voice was sour with jealousy.

"Sis, I always felt like there’s something off about this Catherine Swift. Even though she tries hard to show that she and Howard Geoffrey are just boss and subordinate whenever I visit the company, I can catch a hint of something unusual in the way they exchange glances. This unusual feeling seems like a tacit understanding or familiarity... in any case, Catherine Swift doesn’t give me a good feeling."

"Sis, sis..."

After talking to herself repeatedly without any response, Rebecca Quentin finally noticed Christine Quinn immersed in her thoughts.

"Sis!!"

"Uh, Becca."

Rebecca Quentin waved her hand in front of Christine Quinn, "Are you alright?"

Christine Quinn shook her head, returning from her daze, "I’m fine."

"What were you thinking about just now?"

"Nothing!"

"You clearly were... you didn’t respond when I was talking to you."

Christine Quinn chuckled softly, "I heard you. You said you felt there was a sort of familiarity and tacit understanding between Catherine Swift and Howard Geoffrey, which made you uncomfortable."

Rebecca Quentin lightly bit her lip, muttering, "It’s not really discomfort. I know there’s nothing between Howard and her, at least Howard wouldn’t think anything of her... I’m just..." Rebecca hesitated, unable to express herself.

Christine Quinn picked up her words, "It’s just that when a woman sees the man she loves with another woman, there’s always a bit of discomfort, even if she trusts her man wholeheartedly."

Rebecca Quentin smiled and nodded, "Bingo, that’s exactly how I feel."

Christine Quinn gazed at Rebecca Quentin’s face filled with a smile, quietly watching, as the corners of her own lips gradually followed with a smile.

Feeling uncomfortable under her sister’s gaze, Rebecca Quentin blushed and said, "Why are you staring at me like that?"

Christine Quinn sighed softly, "I really envy the life you’re living now."

Rebecca Quentin wrapped her arm around Christine Quinn, "You’re the only one willing to listen to me talk about these little things in my life with Howard."

Christine Quinn’s pale face showed a faint smile, "I long to be like you, to find someone I love and who loves me, to center my days around him, share the joys with him, find comfort in him when I’m upset, and no matter what difficulties I face, just thinking of him being by your side gives you a sense of peace. Most importantly, you can occasionally get jealous, bicker with him, and enjoy the feeling of him coaxing you."

"Sis, you’re so outstanding, if you want, Howard can introduce some talented young men he admires to you. You don’t have to live days that don’t make you happy like you do now."

"Becca, you know what? Whether I’m happy or not doesn’t matter to me anymore because, from a long time ago, I’ve known that I won’t ever be happy in this lifetime."

"Sis..."

"Alright, Becca, we’re almost home. I don’t want to bring back any depressing emotions..."

On the sofa, Andrew stared with black eyes as beautiful as his father’s, seriously asking, "Auntie, can Mommy really give me a little sister?"

Christine Quinn nodded, "Of course, as long as your Daddy and Mommy try a little harder..."

"Mommy, I want a little sister." Sitting on Rebecca Quentin’s lap, Andrew said innocently as he turned his head to look at his blushing mother.

Rebecca Quentin hugged the little one tightly on her lap, then whispered a few words in his ear.

The little one nodded firmly, clearly satisfied with the answer, and finally hooked pinkies with Rebecca Quentin.

Rebecca Quentin hooked pinkies with Andrew like a child, then laughed and kissed the child’s tender cheek.

Christine Quinn smiled as she watched the cute mother and child pair, a bittersweet feeling welled up inside her.

In her memory, she rarely had such affectionate moments with Marie...

Marie was very dependent on her, but that was because Marie was raised by her, and that kind of dependence was simply because she was her Mommy. In reality, she wasn’t a good mother; she spent most of her time teaching resilience and strength to her child, seldom having such affectionate interactions with her.

She didn’t know if she’d ever have the chance for such close interactions with her child...

Upstairs, Christine Quinn went to her room to see if Marie was working on her summer assignments.

The moment she opened the door, a harmonious laughter between father and daughter filled the room.

Christine Quinn looked over.

She saw Skyler Jones lovingly holding Marie on his lap, tickling her neck with his stubble, while Marie squirmed in his arms, giggling incessantly...

This father-daughter bond had always been so strong.

Over all these years, she only ever saw his face full of smiles when he was with Marie, and his smile was forever so warm, but now, it would never be shown to her again.

Silently retreating from the room, Christine Quinn found her eyes inexplicably tearing up.

This was the first time Skyler Jones dined at Jones’ Mansion. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Mrs. Geoffrey personally cooked a table full of dishes, many of which were dishes that Skyler Jones loved during his childhood.
