Chapter 238 - Being Cautious

Because Xiu Mei was still swamped with work the next day, she failed to find the opportunity to share with Lu Chen about her suspicions that she contemplated last night. They are already at the hospital, and since Lu Qiang was with them, she couldn't casually open the topic at the moment.

She barely even had time to check the list of people that were fired after finding out that they were selling information to other companies.

Xiu Mei felt like she was back at the time wherein she and Lu Chen only kept their relationship as an employee-superior at best. The two of them didn't even get to take lunch together because they were caught up in a meeting and she had to go to a different department right after that.

It was seriously a hectic schedule that she missed yet hated.

Now she felt that she was really back.

"I'll need some modifications made to the supplier since I'll think we have a problem with the packaging for this part."

"Then do a weekly report on the progress at the factory and let me know once we already had a test product for Project Eve."

"What about this one?"

"Let's move that to a different timeslot. It may be the peak time but that's not where our niche is. Check the stats again and find the peak time for our specific niche then we'll push through with that."

"Mm. We'll continue with the model that you chose. Coordinate with the design team and tightly make sure that it goes along with the theme."

She was currently in a meeting with most of the marketing teams to catch up on the progress of various projects. She just finished up on her last meeting with them and was currently noting things on her laptop so that she won't forget about it when a cup of milk tea appeared beside her.

She raised her head and realized it was Albert. She glanced at the milk tea in front of her and hesitantly took it. Her thoughts that were full of work were washed away and were immediately replaced by the report she read long before.

She almost completely forgot about this guy because of everything that happened.

"Just a late welcoming back gift from my team. We weren't able to greet you two days ago since we were in the outskirts for the photoshoot." He casually explained as he sat at an empty seat near her.

"You all didn't have to." She hid her cautious gaze while putting it back on the table. "Still, thanks for this. I'll drink it later with the cookies in the pantry."

She made an excuse so she wouldn't have to drink the liquid. If it was given by a different colleague, she wouldn't have hesitated to drink it up but it came from Albert, one of the people they're currently eyeing on.

His missing past records maybe because of other factors, but with a lot of people aiming for their lives at the moment, even reasons as small as this can become suspicious. It was better to be cautious than to be late in realizing when you've already been stabbed in the back.

Hopefully, that wasn't the case for them for now.

"Ms.Xiu is really a very hardworking person. I greatly admire your work ethic." Albert suddenly blurted out of the blue.

Her hands that were typing something paused as she slightly revealed an embarrassed smile.

"Thank you for the praise. You're very hardworking and great as well, Mr. Chen." She returned the praise.

In the verse of flattering conversations, she certainly won't lose out as a super secretary who dealt with countless businessmen who only loved hearing flatteries.

Albert chuckled at the compliment.

"Well, I won't disturb Miss Secretary even further. I'll go first." And then he immediately left the room.

Xiu Mei counted for a few seconds before letting out the breath that she had secretly been holding in. She quickly finished up and went upstairs to eat her very late lunch.

"Ah! Ms. Xiu, are you really throwing that away?" Her assistant expressed when she saw that she was throwing the cup of milk tea at the garbage can.

She felt somewhat guilty thinking if this really came from the team, but she valued her life more than her relationsh.i.p.s so she could only sacrifice this cup of milk tea. Besides, no one would get hurt unless they know that she just threw this away.

"I saw it spill when I accidentally dropped it along the way here so I'm afraid that it's already dirty. Besides, it already watered down too much so it's not good anymore." And then she finally threw that cup.

Her assistant looked pitifully at the wasted milk tea but she agreed with Xiu Mei. What if this time her boss gets sick from food poisoning this time?

Then she would need to work more overtime again. Na-uh. Yep, a cup of milk tea was worth the sacrifice, or else it would be her life that would soon be sacrificed.

"Did the President already eat?" Xiu Mei asked. Before she went downstairs for the meeting, she reminded her assistant to order some food and deliver it to Lu Chen's office so he won't skip lunch.

"I delivered the food as you said, Ms.Xiu but I'm not sure if the President ate it. Should I go inside to pick up the dishes and check if he had eaten?"

"No. That's fine. I'll go in instead. Just carry on with your work."

"Roger that."

After briefly knocking on the door, she entered the room and saw her husband's figure behind the table. And then her gaze landed on the unopened lunch on the center table.

She sighed and opened the boxed lunch one by one before calling for Lu Chen for a short break.

Nevermind. She actually planned to discuss with him about her thoughts yesterday but this guy looked too busy at the moment. Maybe she should wait until they get home.
