Contract Marriage: Let's Make It Real, Mrs. Sterling!-Chapter 270 - 269: Mm, Be Careful Not to Catch a Cold
Mia Sutton held the phone in her hand, her mind momentarily not processing it, feeling like she had heard it wrong. She was in another province, how could Jensen Sterling be here?
Her fingers tapped the screen to put the phone on speaker, leaving it on the bedside table as she reached to pull out her suitcase next to the bed.
The show had arranged one room per guest since all the invited celebrities had quite a presence. It was impossible to have them all crammed in one room.
Mostly, they were afraid of potential conflicts if a few people shared a room.
That’s why Mia put the phone on speaker without worrying about someone suddenly coming in.
On the other end of the line, Jensen Sterling sat in his car, eyes focused on the distant hotel. There were scattered pedestrians around. One hand held the phone, and the other gripped the steering wheel, tapping rhythmically. Hearing her voice from the other side, Jensen paused for a moment: "Mia..."
Mia just opened her suitcase to find an outfit when she heard Jensen calling her name, instinctively responding, "Hmm?"
Jensen: "What are you doing?"
Mia pulled out several outfits from the suitcase and tossed them onto the bed, still reaching in, looking at each piece and shaking her head, mumbling, "Looking for clothes."
After speaking, there was silence from the other end. Mia pulled out another outfit, holding it still in her hand as if she suddenly realized something, and her movement froze.
A few seconds later, she glanced at her suitcase in front of her, then slowly shifted her gaze to the clothes she had thrown on the bed, expressing an indescribable mix of feelings.
Blinking dryly twice, Jensen, sitting in his car, heard the girl on the other end say, "Isn’t it cold now? When I was with the show, I didn’t wear a jacket, so I opened the suitcase to find one."
"To prevent catching a cold." She said the last few words with earnest seriousness.
Jensen leaned back against the car seat, letting out a light laugh from his throat, softening his brows and eyes. He softly responded, "No rush, take your time."
After saying this, he leisurely added, "Be careful of catching a cold."
Mia: "..."
After a moment, she managed to say, "Got it."
After hanging up, Mia looked at the array of clothes on the bed, staring at them for a long time with a slightly exasperated look.
She didn’t know how much time had passed before she changed and came out. It was late autumn, and she wore a white sweater underneath, not very thick, topped with a coat that highlighted her slender figure.
Mia wasn’t short; standing at 168 cm she was quite tall among girls. But every time she stood next to Jensen, she looked quite petite.
Checking herself in the mirror, she felt satisfied. The outfit matched well, but something seemed to be missing. After contemplating for a while,
She dashed over to her suitcase, got her jewelry box, and pulled out a necklace.
Yes, now it was perfect.
Once she was fully dressed, Mia slipped the room card into her small bag and headed out.
The pile of clothes she had thrown on the bed lay there alone.
Most rooms the show had assigned to invited participants were on this floor. Mia secured her room and walked towards the elevator.
...
Martin Wright had just stepped out of his room, spotting a familiar figure walking down the hallway. Instantly pausing, he tried to look more closely, but the figure had already disappeared at the end of the corridor.
Dazed for a moment, Martin hurriedly walked over.
The figure looked very much like Mia. It was this late already; if it was Mia, what was she doing dressed so neatly?
It couldn’t be for a meal; meals were typically ordered to the room via room service to avoid recognition.
Even if she intended to go out to eat, there was no need to dress so meticulously, even with a coat.
Thinking thus, he already reached the elevator area, but no one was there. Lowering his eyes, he saw the elevator was already descending.
Mia, unaware she was being noticed, reached into her bag after entering the elevator and put on a mask. She pulled her scarf up to cover most of her face, leaving only her sparkling eyes.
Outside, the sky was dark; it was late autumn, nights fell earlier, with the street lamps brightening the surroundings.
Mia followed the directions Jensen gave, looking around but saw no one.
She slightly tiptoed, craning her neck for a better look.
"Where is he?"
Just as she spoke, a voice came from behind her, "I’m here."
Startled, Mia turned to see the man behind her, then rubbed her chin lower to adjust her scarf, "Mr. Sterling, why do you walk so silently?"
Maybe because of the mask and scarf, her voice sounded muffled and with a hint of coyness.
Jensen took his hand from his coat pocket, pulling her scarf up a bit higher as she had nudged it down.
"Hmm, my bad, next time I’ll make some noise."
Then he reached to grab her wrist, "The car’s over there, let’s go."
Mia: "Oh."
She followed his pace with lifted steps.
The two of them walked towards the car, their figures stretching into long shadows under the glow of the streetlamps.
Mia walked with her head lowered, her eyelids slightly drooped, casting shadows from her long lashes, finding amusement in stepping on his shadow.
Jensen tilted his head, noticing how intently she was stepping on shadows, his eyes softening with a gentle look.
"Is it fun?"
At his words, Mia stopped and looked up, catching his eyes filled with amusement.
Mia: "..." Embarrassed to be caught, she felt grateful for the mask.
A few seconds later, she quietly admitted, "It’s alright."
Jensen: "Hmm, if it’s fun, keep at it." His tone indulgent, he continued to lead her along.
Mia kept her head down, saying nothing, her heart bounding, feeling the warmth from his hand on her wrist.
After just a few steps, she heard him again, "The outfit looks nice."
Mia: "...."
