Contract Marriage: Love Has Finally Arrived-Chapter 153 - : I Don’t Eat Century Eggs
Chapter 153: Chapter 153: I Don’t Eat Century Eggs
Gu Qiangwei smiled and turned to the old woman, who quickly got the hint.
Before long, two servings of preserved egg and lean pork congee and pickles were served.
Gu Qiangwei couldn’t wait to take several bites, she hadn’t eaten this for so long, and she missed it so much!
Looking up, however, she saw the man sitting opposite was unmoved.
Her motions slowed, as she stared at him, “What’s wrong? Don’t you like it?”
Qin Sijue kept his gaze on the bowl of congee, his complexion somewhat dark.
“I don’t eat preserved eggs.”
“…If you don’t eat preserved eggs, why did you order the same as me?”
He suddenly looked up, “How was I to know that’s what you’d ordered?”
“I clearly mentioned it before”—noticing the people sharing the table with them at that moment, Gu Qiangwei swallowed her words, not wanting to argue with him and potentially affect the old woman’s business.
She stared at the lean pork congee in his bowl for a while before coming up with a solution.
The old woman’s congee was so delicious that it was famous far and wide. It would be a shame to throw it away and get something else, not only that but it might also hurt the old woman’s feelings.
With this thought, she suddenly picked up her chopsticks and one by one, fished out the preserved eggs from his bowl.
Not wanting to waste food, she didn’t discard them but instead picked them all into her own bowl.
“There, you can eat now!”
After carefully picking everything out, she pushed the bowl of lean pork congee towards him.
Qin Sijue glanced at the congee in the bowl before picking up a spoon and beginning to eat.
Having a taste, he savored it and found the flavor was indeed quite good.
Seeing no change in his expression, Gu Qiangwei couldn’t help but ask, “How is it? Isn’t it delicious?”

He slightly lifted his eyelids, glanced at her, then lowered them again, and in a soft voice that could not deny, he answered, “Mhm.”
Even though it was just a short word, Gu Qiangwei felt very happy to hear it.
“Do you come here often to eat?” He looked up and casually asked.
“Yeah, I used to come here often during my university days.”
“Don’t you get tired of eating it so often?”
She lifted her eyelids, and a touch of sadness inadvertently crossed her face.
“No way, how could I get tired of my mom’s cooking?” The reason she often came back here was that she truly longed for the preserved egg and lean pork congee her mother used to make for her when she was a child.
Ever since her mother suddenly disappeared, she hadn’t had it again.
What’s most unforgettable in this world isn’t delicacies from the mountains or the sea, but the taste of a mother’s cooking.
Looking at her eating the congee with her head down, Qin Sijue’s face also briefly flashed a hard-to-detect sorrow.
Lowering his head and looking at the congee in his bowl, he couldn’t remember when was the last time he ate something made by his mother.
After finishing the congee, they bid farewwell to the old woman and left.
The car drove slowly, lacking the previous thrill and speed, which surprised Gu Qiangwei. She turned to look at the man in the driver’s seat, feeling that something was off with him since they left the congee shop.
Could it be that she had said something wrong again?
“What’s wrong with you?” she asked quietly, looking at his flawless profile.
Her crisp voice pulled him back from his deep thoughts.
“Nothing.”
She pursed her lips and did not continue to press the issue.
Since he had answered her, he probably wasn’t angry, she assumed.
Looking up, she saw the familiar road outside the car window—they were on the way to her home.
Turning her head, she looked at the man, puzzled, “Where are you going?”
“To your house.”
“…What for?”
He turned his head, glanced at her, “To look into something that happened twelve years ago is not an easy task.” He said, then turned his head toward her and curbed the corner of his lips slightly, “Of course, I need to have a word with your jerk of a father.”
Seeing his face change suddenly, Gu Qiangwei was momentarily stunned but quickly regained her composure.
