Chapter 61: 061: The Blind Date is My Second Uncle’s Woman (1 more update)
"Shall we go riding this afternoon as well?"
Lai Yang looked at Ning Guiwan, her eyes lighting up. "Besides, you don’t have to work, and staying home is boring anyway."
Ning Guiwan thought for a moment, nodded, and smiled. "That sounds good."
While they were talking, Housekeeper Fang Derong came over. "Old Mrs. Quan asks for your presence."
"Oh, we’ll be right there," Lai Yang responded. She watched Fang Derong turn towards the corridor before leaning into Ning Guiwan’s ear. "Are you really going on a blind date with Quan Shengyu?"
Ning Guiwan smiled at her. "Why not?"
"It’s not that it’s not okay..." Lai Yang scratched the Frenchie’s chin, hesitated a bit, then said, "I just think it’s such a pity. With your beauty, you should be the wife of a billionaire, not involved in some romance with that brat Quan Shengyu, and then end up raising his son..."
Ning Guiwan poked Lai Yang’s head. "I think you’re the one who wants to find a lifelong meal ticket."
"You shouldn’t joke about that. If Granny Quan hears it, it won’t be good."
"I’m not joking! I really think you and your second cousin are a perfect match—beauty and riches!"
「In the living room」
Old Mrs. Quan and Quan Shengyu’s mother, Xia Anxiu, were discussing the Tianchi situation.
Old Mrs. Quan, who was largely cut off from the outside world while recuperating, was momentarily bewildered. "So, you mean Tianchi Group might not survive this?"
"Unless financial institutions finance them," Xia Anxiu said, repeating what she had heard. "But looking at the current situation, financing is very likely to fall through. No financial institution is willing to make such a guaranteed losing deal." Quan Shengyu’s father worked in media and had mentioned it in passing at home; Xia Anxiu was merely parroting him.
Old Mrs. Quan’s heart grew heavy upon hearing this. Ning Guiwan’s maternal grandmother had poured so much of her youth into Tianchi Group; it was truly distressing to think her friend’s hard work might all come to nothing.
After a long silence, Old Mrs. Quan’s thoughts suddenly returned to the blind date. She looked at Xia Anxiu. "Even if Tianchi Group collapses, Xiaowan is still my most cherished child. And even if I’m gone, there’s still Ayu."
Xia Anxiu immediately understood her implication and smiled. "A child dearly loved by her aunt is naturally good. Though she has made some mistakes, as the saying goes, ’To know your fault and correct it is the greatest virtue...’"
Old Mrs. Quan held eight percent of the shares in Ruiyin Group. She doted on Ning Guiwan so much; she would surely give some as a dowry.
Xia Anxiu lowered her head to sip her tea, her lowered eyelids concealing the greed in her eyes.
When Old Mr. Quan took over Ruiyin, his other brothers had each only received three percent of the shares, and only dividend rights at that.
Over the years, watching Old Mr. Quan’s branch of the family bask in endless glory, how could the uncles and cousins from the other branches feel content?
"Third Aunt, your San Pang is adorable!" Lai Yang exclaimed as soon as she entered, her tone lighthearted and carefree.
Xia Anxiu and Old Mrs. Quan both looked over.
However, neither of them focused on Lai Yang.
Ning Guiwan wore a black, cross-collared dress that reached her ankles. Her feet were in indoor slippers, yet her figure still appeared tall and slim.
Her long hair was neatly tied behind her head, revealing a fair, full forehead. Her bright, beautiful eyes held a hint of coldness.
"They say a girl changes so much as she grows up, and Xiaowan is becoming more and more charmingly beautiful," Xia Anxiu said, putting down her teacup and beckoning with her hand. "Xiaowan, come here. Let your Fourth Aunt take a good look at you."
The living room was filled with a seemingly joyous atmosphere.
"Shengyu had a stent procedure this morning. He’ll come over after it’s done. Xiaowan, please don’t blame him for being late, alright?" Xia Anxiu smiled warmly. As long as Ning Guiwan behaved herself in the future, whatever she had done in the past could truly be overlooked.
Ning Guiwan smiled. "Didn’t I just arrive as well? Fourth Aunt hasn’t blamed me for being disrespectful to my elders, has she?"
"Haha..." Xia Anxiu burst into laughter and turned to Old Mrs. Quan. "Your Xiaowan really knows how to talk."
It was almost noon when Quan Shengyu finally arrived by car.
Carrying several bags, he entered. "Great-aunt, did you miss me?"
This energetic young man always knew how to endear himself to others.
Old Mrs. Quan chuckled. "It has indeed been a long time since I last saw you."
Xia Anxiu, however, shot him a glare. "You took so long to get here, and you still have the nerve to grin like that?"
"I didn’t want to! My patient suddenly took a turn for the worse, and I had to perform the surgery earlier. I would have come sooner if I could," Quan Shengyu explained, taking the teacup handed to him by a servant. His eyes scanned Lai Yang and Ning Guiwan nearby; apart from them, he saw no other young women.
"Didn’t you say Great-aunt wanted to introduce me to a girlfriend? Where is she? Is she even later than me?"
As he spoke, a wide grin stretched across his face. He eagerly carried his teacup over to Ning Guiwan, greeting her warmly, "Miss Ning, you’re here too."
Seeing this, Xia Anxiu smiled. "It seems you two have already met."
"We did meet a few days ago..." Quan Shengyu began, but then he suddenly sensed something was off.
He turned his head to look at his mom. "What do you mean by that?"
His mom had only told him that his great-aunt wanted to introduce him to someone. She had insisted he make time for a meal. He wasn’t planning on marrying anytime soon, but he had agreed to spare his mother the trouble. Consequently, he hadn’t asked for any specific details about the woman, and his mom hadn’t volunteered any.
A terrible premonition began to sprout in Quan Shengyu’s heart. He quickly took a sip of tea to calm his nerves.
Xia Anxiu’s eyes twinkled with amusement. "Since you’ve already met, I won’t bother with further introductions. Just get along well, and let your feelings for each other develop slowly..."
"PFFT! COUGH, COUGH..." Quan Shengyu choked on his tea.
He had never, ever expected that the blind date he had impulsively agreed to would be with his second paternal uncle’s woman!
It was horrifying.
If his second paternal uncle found out, wouldn’t he be skinned alive?
