Craved by the Wrong Volkov-Chapter 323: Meeting the Voss family part 2
Braelyn’s POV
I stared at Margaret in disbelief for a moment. The information she was sharing sounded almost unreal. "You are already a great grandmother?" I asked, still trying to process it.
Margaret laughed softly, clearly amused by my reaction. The sound was warm and carefree. "Yes, I am," she said with a small shrug. "I am already in my seventies. Time moves quickly when you are surrounded by so many children."
I blinked in surprise. She did not look like someone in her seventies at all. The woman sitting beside me carried herself with such elegance and vitality that it was easy to forget her age.
The Voss family really did seem incredibly fertile.
Which meant the issue with children in my own marriage most likely had something to do with Avelina. The thought drifted through my mind quietly before I pushed it aside. There was no point thinking about that now.
Margaret continued speaking casually as if discussing the weather. "It would take all day if I tried to mention everyone in detail," she said with a small chuckle. "You will learn their names much faster when you meet them directly."
I nodded in agreement.
"My second son Vincent has four boys," she continued, her voice carrying an amused tone. "He truly believed he would be the one to break the curse."
I looked at her curiously. "His wife comes from a family filled with daughters," Margaret explained, laughing again. "He was absolutely convinced that their children would finally bring girls into this family."
Her laughter grew louder as she shook her head."Jokes on him. Four boys in a row."
I could not help laughing along with her."Well... he did have a daughter once," she added more quietly. "She was meant to be their third child."
Her voice softened slightly. "Unfortunately she was born with a heart condition and passed away within an hour."
The cheerful mood in the car faded for a brief moment. "My husband Douglas almost died that day along with her," Margaret said with a small smile that did not quite reach her eyes.
Her gaze drifted toward the window for a second. She quickly cleared her throat and straightened slightly.
"I miss him," she added casually. "A car accident took his life last year." The sadness in her voice was brief but unmistakable.
Before the mood could sink too deeply, Margaret clapped her hands lightly and forced a brighter tone.
"But enough of those depressing topics," she said with a smile. "Vincent’s eldest son already has a boy of his own. My second great grand son."
She laughed again. "And his wife is already expecting another baby. I made a bet with Vincent and Elliot that it will be another boy."
Her eyes sparkled mischievously. "Vincent insists it will be a girl this time, but I am quite confident I will win that bet."
Her playful storytelling completely lifted the mood inside the car. I found myself laughing with her again, the earlier tension slowly melting away. After a moment, I glanced at her thoughtfully.
"With so many sons in the family... are you not worried they might fight over the property one day?" I asked. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Margaret burst into a loud, roaring laugh that filled the car. She patted my shoulder affectionately.
"My dear girl, the Voss empire is far too large for one person to manage alone," she replied with confidence. "We need plenty of capable hands to keep everything running smoothly."
She leaned back in her seat and smiled proudly. "Besides, I married into the Voss family as an only child myself."
My eyebrows rose in surprise. "My family are miners," she explained casually. "A very successful mining family, I should add."
She shrugged lightly. " Your late grandparents even set aside a portion of the estate for you personally. They didn’t care you didn’t carry the surname."
I stared at her in stunned silence for a moment before nodding slowly. The Voss family left an inheritance for a daughter they never meant.
Even so, a small part of me still worried about the possibility of future conflicts. Margaret seemed to notice the lingering concern in my expression because she waved her hand dismissively.
"Trust me," she said calmly. "These boys grew up together. They know exactly how this family works." she glanced toward the large mansion ahead of us.
"We should go in before breakfast gets cold.".I nodded and took a deep breath. The driver stepped out first and opened the car door for us.
Margaret squeezed my hand once more before stepping out. I followed her, my eyes automatically scanning the grand mansion in front of us.
The estate was massive despite its age it was still beautiful. It had been renovated over the decades. Before we could even reach the front doors, they opened. An elderly butler stood waiting for us with a warm smile.
"Lady Margaret," he greeted respectfully. "It is good to see you again." Margaret smiled fondly.
"It is good to see you as well, Thomas." His attention then shifted to me.
"And you must be Miss Braelyn," he said politely. He bowed his head slightly."It is truly an honour to finally meet you."
I offered him a small smile in return, still feeling a little overwhelmed by the attention. "Thank you," I muttered.
Thomas stepped aside and gestured for us to enter. "If you would please follow me, everyone is already waiting in the dining room." he urged us.
As we walked down the hallway, I could already hear voices and laughter echoing through the house. The sound grew louder as we approached a large set of double doors.
My grip on Margaret’s hand tightened slightly. She gave my fingers a reassuring squeeze. When the doors opened, the noise inside instantly died down.
The entire room fell silent. Every head turned toward us. All 12 men of the Voss family was present and some with their partners. Curiosity was written in their eyes.
For a moment I simply stared back at them. Then I leaned slightly toward Margaret and whispered quietly.
"You should have warned me they were all handsome." Margaret burst into laughter beside me.
