Crown Of Hearts-Chapter 80: A grandmaster
Chapter 80: A grandmaster
"I am looking for Silas Ravenwood. Any ideas on where I could find him?" He asked and the young witch looked positively startled but she composed her face quickly.
"Silas is a very powerful wizard. Some say he is a grandmaster at the art of magic and you can only find him if he wants you to." She said, her voice serious and Alexander frowned slightly.
How was he going to find a wizard that held that much power?
"You know nothing that could help?" He asked and she was thoughtfully silent.
"Since you are from a powerful bloodline, your magic could have a few similar notes with that of Silas. You could try to find him by sensing his magic." She suggested and the question was clear in Alexander’s eyes.
How in heaven was he supposed to do that?
"It’s actually pretty simple. Silas draws most of his power from nature so all you have to do is close your eyes and focus on picking up on any traces of magic that are similar to yours. Focus on the breeze and the earth. The trees could also help. Your magic could have a twenty percent similarity with that of Silas and that’s huge." She explained patiently and Alexander was grateful for the new piece of information.
"Thank you." He smiled and she gave him a small nod before going back into her house.
Alexander watched the door close before he walked back to Ebenezer who was carefully hidden behind a tree, watching the entire interaction.
"Has she been of any help?" He asked.
"She said that I could try and find him by sensing his magic." Alexander replied.
"Why does that sound like it’s going to be a hefty task?" Ebenezer remarked and Alexander chuckled.
"It’s the best we have at the moment and we have little to no other choices left." Alexander admitted as he looked at the compass in his hand that had become quite useless.
"I am going to need to get some practice though." Alexander added and Ebenezer nodded in approval as he curiously watched his partner place his hand on a tree and close his eyes.
"Anything?" Ebenezer asked after Alexander had remained unmoving for more than ten minutes.
"I am picking up faint traces of magic in the area but there are none that are really similar to mine. Silas is a long way from where we are." Alexander confessed and Ebenezer tried not to worry at the realization that they had to go deeper into the forest where most of the forest’s deadly creatures resided.
"We will have to go deep into the forest." Ebenezer spoke his thoughts and Alexander noticed he didn’t seem particularly happy about.
"You don’t seem to like that." Alexander pointed out and Ebenezer tried to smile and show him that everything was fine but the attempt was futile.
"The deeper we go into the forest, the more creatures that we are likely to run into." Ebenezer explained.
"You are immortal." Alexander whispered and Ebenezer sighed softly as he realized why he was getting a little scared.
He now had to protect his nephew’s fiance and ensure that no harm came to him.
"Almost, but you are not." Ebenezer pointed out and Alexander was silent for a while as he let that sink in.
"We will have to be very careful and alert if we are to survive and get to Silas." Ebenezer said and Alexander’s eyes burned with a fierce determination.
"I served in the army and I know a thing or two about being careful and alert. I can protect myself." Alexander said and Ebenezer had no doubt.
His nephew’s fiance didn’t look like a weakling and that took some pressure off his chest.
"Alright, let’s go. We have a wizard to find." Ebenezer replied and together, they moved deeper into the dark forest.
....
Damon had spent the last three days entertaining his guests to the best of his abilities and so far, there had not been a dull moment.
He had even warmed up to the two dragons.
Damon could now freely talk to Eros and look at Valerion with glaring and Eamon was pleased with his progress.
"Eros is fun." Damon admitted once they had finished horse riding and he had gracefully lost to the skilled dragon.
"See, I told you that you could like him." Eamon grinned as they walked ahead of the two dragons, making their way back into the castle to escape the late morning sun.
"A letter arrived this morning. It’s addressed to a .... Valerion?" A foot man approached them once they were inside.
Eamon took the letter and handed it to his mate.
"It’s from Ezekiel. The red dragon has been captured." Valerion summarized the contents of the letter and Damon was glad that he had an idea on what the dragon was talking about.
Eamon had filled him in on the details of his attack.
"I will go and check it out." Eros said as he looked at his uncle who looked like he really wanted to stay with his mate whose visit was not going to get done anytime soon.
"Alright, tell Ezekiel that I will briefly fly in tomorrow to assess the situation." Valerion agreed as he looked at Eamon who nodded briefly in acceptance.
Eamon had no problem sacrificing a day from his visiting days with Damon so that his mate could perform his duties.
"I will take my leave now. It was a pleasure meeting you Damon." Eros held out his hand for a handshake and Damon took it, offering the dragon a faint smile.
Valerion and Eamon watched Eros enter a carriage after they had said their farewells.
"We could also have left today if you wanted." Eamon said to his mate who turned and offered him a smile.
"I know but I wanted you to have enough time to say farewell to Damon. I didn’t want you to feel rushed." Valerion admitted and Eamon was touched by his thoughtfulness.
"You are so thoughtful and I really love that about you." Eamon smiled up at him and Valerion reached out and held his hand, placing a kiss on his knuckles as their eyes met.
Eamon’s cheeks flushed because they were in public.
"You seem to bring out the best in me." Valerion admitted and Eamon’s heart warmed up as he leaned in and placed a kiss on his mate’s cheek.
"Let’s go back inside." Eamon whispered, as he noticed all the curious stares that they were getting from the passersby.
"Alright." Valerion agreed as they watched Eros’ carriage disappear from sight.
Eros couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that had settled in his chest as he shifted into his dragon and flew home.
His dragon was restless and Eros hated that he didn’t know why.
