Chapter 152: Situation.

[Late night.]

[Queen Inara’s bedroom.]

The soft light over the table flickered as Inara leaned forward doing her paperwork.

She was wearing her nightgown, her long silver hair loosely tied back, strands falling over her shoulder.

Despite how much people praised her beauty, the real thing couldn’t be captured in words.

Even among races known for their charm and grace, she stood apart—not because of perfection, but because of presence.

Still...

The faint wrinkles on her face betrayed her exhaustion.

They weren’t ugly, not truly, but they made her seem older than she was.

It’s only been a day since she became the queen but there was so much work for her to do.

The former king had ruled with a passive hand—never doing too much, never doing too little.

Now all that neglect had caught up and it was her job to clean it up.

"Hey, tell me." Inara said, leaning back on her chair. "How much money should I provide with for the military?"

She turned her head to look at the young man, laying on his bed.

Akamir turned to look at her as well.

"That depends," he replied, his voice wise. "Do you want them to protect the borders, or start a war?"

"I don’t have the luxury to start a war," Inara muttered, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Just defense. For now."

"Then cut the budget by twenty percent," Akamir said calmly, turning to his side.

"Most of the funds were being funneled into outdated equipment anyway."

Inara nodded slowly, scribbling a note onto the paper in front of her.

Looking at her tired face, Akamir couldn’t help but ask.

"Are things that bad?" he said. "Or is there something else."

"The kingdom’s condition was always bad." She replied, not raising her head. "But things are only getting worse."

"How so?" he asked, looking at her.

"Both Aure and Lythanis Kingdoms have sent marriage proposals." Inara groaned, rubbing her temples.

"I can understand Aure, but this fucking Lythanis, they are asking me to marry my cousin."

Akamir let out a chuckle. "And your answer?"

"I am already taken advantage of by you." She replied, shrugging. "I can’t show my poor face to others, an impure lady who lost her virginity before marriage."

Akamir blinked. "...That’s not exactly how I remember it."

Inara finally looked up, a sly smile playing at her lips. "Oh? Then enlighten me."

He raised an eyebrow. "You were the one who called me in your room."

"And you were the one who didn’t object."

Akamir grinned. "You seduced someone younger than you."

"I was the one who got seduced here." She replied, closing her paperwork. "And remind me again who killed his brother so he can have me?"

Akamir chuckled softly. "Careful, I still outrank you."

"Doesn’t count in the bedroom," she muttered. freewёbnoνel.com

"What did you say?"

"Nothing, my baby."

Inara smiled as she got up from her chair and walked towards him.

She fell down over him as soon as she got close.

Akamir caught her in his arms in which she settled comfortably.

"Still..." Inara whispered, her voice soft. "The council will throw a fit if I reject both kingdoms outright. They’ll call it arrogance."

"Fuck them." Akamir replied, rubbing her hair. "I can always change them if you need."

"That’s a really scary thing to say, you know." She replied, glancing up at him. "You really are scary."

Akamir tilted his head, looking down at her. "You say that, but you still crawl into my arms like a cat."

Inara closed her eyes, her lips curving slightly. "That’s because you’re warm."

His fingers continued to gently comb through her silver hair.

"When are you going?" She asked, glancing up at him. "To the elven kingdom?"

"Day after tomorrow." Akamir replied, looking into her eyes. "There are a few things I need to do."

She gave him a nod and didn’t say anything else.

It remained like that for a while before she whispered.

"The Aure kingdom." She whispered softly. "They might wage war on us."

Akamir paused his hand. "Why do you say so?"

"Remember how we humiliated them?" She asked, without looking up. "They could use that as a pretext."

Akamir gave her a thoughtful nod.

’If they really wanted a war, they could use this chance.’

Right now, their kingdom is in its weakest stage.

With a civil war ending between the siblings and a new queen in the mix.

’They might really do it.’

Akamir once again began to comb her hair.

"What if I take over them?" He asked, his voice soft. "Replace their royal family with a mimicker."

Inara slowly opened her eyes, blinking at his words. "You make it sound like it’s as easy as swapping out furniture."

Akamir shrugged slightly. "For me, it is."

She gave him a long look, her fingers absently tracing circles over his chest. "Do you ever stop and think about how insane you sound sometimes?"

"Not really," he replied with a faint smile. "I’ve learned that worrying about normal doesn’t get anything done."

Inara closed her eyes again. "You shouldn’t use your power recklessly." She said. "I can tell there will be consequences for your actions."

Akamir gave her a short nod without arguing.

’It really is true though.’

It’s all because humans are the weakest race in this world that he is still safe.

Once he goes out and begins to meet new people, Akamir was sure a few will be able to differentiate between mimickers and others.

’That would definitely be a problem for me.’

Still, right now, he was safe and he really wants to keep his powers in control.

"You know, maybe I should look into other kingdoms as well." She replied, looking at him. "Make good relationships with non-human kingdoms."

"The elves and the beastmen, huh?" Akamir mumbled, nodding his head. "That could work."

"Yeah." She nodded in response as well. "I was thinking about it for a while now."

Akamir didn’t say a word for a while as he looked at her. "You know I can help?"

She blinked in response. "How so?"

"I am already visiting the elves soon." He explained, his voice thoughtful. "Maybe I can arrange something for you."

Though he sounds doubtful, he was sure he can pull this off.

’I mean, I already have the way to do it.’

The spirit herbs.

Akamir was sure that the elves will accept the request for a good political relationship with Krivos Kingdom if he requested it.

"Well, then." Inara said, hugging his body once again. "I will leave it to you, husband."

Akamir cringed at her words but he didn’t show it on his face.

Women are really observant about things like this.

"By the way." She said, as if she only remembered it now. "Zaina tried to contact me."

Akamir blinked in confusion. "Why?"

"Pretty sure it’s to talk about you." She replied, smiling softly. "As a queen, I might take you all for myself."

Akamir let out a sigh as he asked. "Do you know—."

"She is an Apostle, I know." Inara said, slowly sitting on the bed. "Father told me before."

Akamir stared dead into her eyes. "And?"

Inara’s smile grew wider as she leaned forward.

"Even if she is an Apostle."

She whispered, as she reached out for his trousers.

"Doesn’t mean, I will give up on you."
