Crusader King-Chapter 121: Beneath the Statue(6)
Chapter 121 - Beneath the Statue(6)
Cades, seeing that the spider itself was also having some trouble after having brashly run right into the tree in which he had previously gotten stuck, an especially big one with a thick stump, about four foot thick and looking as if made of bone, quickly grabbed his sword tighter, the sword that had somehow not fallen out of his hand when he had been tossed aside by one of the spider's huge legs, and readied himself to cut the thing apart, or at least try.
Before he even struck down, however, he imbued some of his own power, to be more specific the overload active, into the hilt of the blade, just as he had done so many times before, a task that rewarded the blade with greater power and force, but in turn heated it up, something that seemed to not affect the sword itself, but was burning his hand quite a bit, so much so that he had scars to heal on there already, after just having begun this battle, though this might also be a show of the force he had forced into the overload just now.
And as such the strike that resulted from that great energy, the strike towards the squirming body of the spider that looked quite eerie as it had been unlucky enough to land on it's stomach, if it even had that, right against the thick tree, lashing out with it's legs to try and destroy him as well as it could, something it did however fail it without it's sight and with no way to hear him, if the queen had even been able to hear.
The attack struck right at the middle of the stomach that had also been scaled, causing great damage to the already present gash, something that did quite stun Cades who was now readying himself to do another attack until he was hit by one of the stray legs of the spider, something that was indeed more likely due to the fact that it had six instead of just two as he had, something that he was ever so slightly envious of right now.
Tossed around the small island he once more struck a tree, but this time, perhaps due to the fact that it didn't expect to hit him, perhaps due to the fact that it had just been exhausted after throwing it's legs around like that, something he could slightly understand, but not in such a short amount of time, Cades was hit about a dozen feet away, crashing right against a relatively small tree that had perhaps been kept down due to the fact that there was a huge one near, one that was hogging all of the resources, however they might get to those.
The little one, showing a surprising resilience was bent after a short moment however, the tree, barely fifteen foot high, slightly smaller than the spider, and a half foot wide, very small for a tree of that size, at least on this island, especially with most trees being about thirty foot tall at least, was bent inwards, splintering into weirdly hard pieces that Cades already knew would be a hell to remove later on, after all, it would be a miracle if he got out of that without any splinters.
Luckily, or rather unluckily, for him the tree did however break his fall and caused him to land just a few feet further away from the falling tree, that surprisingly fell in the opposite direction of his body, with minor injury, the only one really being that the stump that had once been hirs right arm had started bleeding after getting cut on the gravel that covered the ground of this entire island, though that only really happened because he hadn't infused the part of his body that he had thought of as missing with mana, the same went with his right eye that still looked charred as if it had been made of the same wood that the puppet that had taken it had been made of.
It took him a second until he finally turned around, lying on his body with his stomach and pushing himself up, still feeling eeriness emanating from the trees and dizzied by the attack to his stomach that would've made him throw up his food had he eaten anything recently, though, this also resulted in it not hurting too much, due to the simple fact that he had already started to almost reflexively ignore all of the calls for help from his stomach, only really being surprised by sudden pains and attacks to the stomach, something that had perhaps resulted from one of the fights he had fought since entering this place, or perhaps just because he had to constantly be vigilant.
Either way, it took him a bit to stand up completely, only then realizing that the tree that he had crashed against had fallen onto the spider that was still struggling, something that confused him for another two seconds that he then wasted, until he realized that this entire fight hadn't even been a minute by now and that spiders and bugs often took quite long to recuperate their positions after falling down like that.
However, that very train of thought had cost him another three seconds, something that he hadn't even realized, but something that had been caused by his dizziness right now, and also something that resulted in the spider managing to push itself up, using the heavy tree that had fallen onto it, be it something that had managed to injure it as well, causing some cracks on it's scales and deepening his attack that had left burn marks resembling streaks.
Finally, it was back up on it's feet, ready to attack the still dizzied Cades, though it probably already knew that that state it had put him in wouldn't last for much longer, something that would force it to attack normally, however, instead of doing that it simply stood there for a moment, it's stature resembling a dying spider as Cades could audibly hear a disgusting crack in his mind despite no sound coming to his ears.
