Cultivation Daddy-Chapter 125 - 124: You belong in the Advance Class
The Inscription he told them to draw is a level zero, grade zero. The basicest of the basics.
Even so, for children who haven’t had much contact with Inscription, it was difficult. Brushes were dipped into ink nervously.
The most difficult is how much spiritual energy they have to channel into each stroke. This is difficult for even adults, because spiritual energy can’t be measured. Only after countless practice would one find what works best for them.
The children concentrated fiercely, as they drew wobbling lines. Some children frown so hard that their little faces turn red.
BOOM!!!
A loud explosion was heard in the back. The sudden sound shatters their focus and all heads turn towards the sound.
Instructor Hao Ming quickly went over. A boy was standing behind his desk, his face smeared with remnants of black powder, looking nervously at instructor Hao.
"I think mine exploded..."
Hao Ming’s brow furrowed as he assessed the scene before him: "How did it explode?"
The boy pointed with a shaky hand at the crumpled paper that was almost burned: "I... I accidentally channeled too much."
The boy was shaking, with just one look, one could tell that he’s very scared. Instructor Hao sighed, he knelt down, bringing himself to the boy’s eye level: "It’s alright," he said softly: "mistakes are part of learning. Let’s see if we can figure out what went wrong together."
The boy nodded hesitantly, seeing that the teacher wasn’t angry, he calmed down and helped to clean up.
"It exploded not only because of the spiritual energy that exceeded the limit, but the diagram you drew is an explosion." Hao Ming continued, examining the charred remnants. "The way you structured the Inscription is wrong."
He gently placed a hand on the boy’s shoulder: "Let’s take a moment to understand. Every line and curve in your drawing is important; if it’s misaligned, things can go awry."
The other children watched intently.
One girl asked, a little fearful: "Could ours explode too?"
Instructor Hao walked to the front of the class and encouraged them: "Remember, it’s all part of the journey. Learning to channel that energy requires patience and precision. Let’s try again, together."
Influenced by his calmness, the children resumed their work.
The children’s determination made instructor Hao smile. He felt like teaching those little ones wouldn’t be so bad after all. When he was chosen to teach the beginner level, he was a bit disappointed, thinking that he was being demoted. Even though his pay was still the same, for a level 5 Inscription Master to be teaching Inscription below level one was a far cry from what he envisioned for his career.
But thinking about it now, the beginning, as the foundation is very important. Without proper instructions at this stage, the potential of these young minds could be hindered.
He glanced around the room, suddenly, his eyes landed on a child who seemed to be sleeping?
Instructor Hao walked over uncertainly. The boy’s head rested on his desk, soft snores escaping his lips: "Li Juanxin?"
Li Juanxin lifted his head slightly, his sleepy eyes blinking up at instructor Hao in confusion: "Teacher Hao? Sorry, I fell asleep."
He apologized, rubbing the sleep away.
Instructor Hao couldn’t help but chuckle: "What’s wrong? Are you tired?"
Li Juanxin nodded then quickly shook his head, amusing instructor Hao.
"Still, you have to practice like the rest of the class."
Instructor Hao has a good impression of Li Juanxin, the boy who doesn’t disturb and is also knowledgeable. He was even thinking of offering him a bit of extra guidance during practice seasons.
"Oh, that... I finished." Li Juanxin pushed the paper towards him.
Instructor Hao looked down at the drawing and froze.
The Reinforcement Inscription was flawless. Every line connected smoothly. The energy circulation was just right. The final stabilizing point was placed exactly where it should be.
"Did you draw this yourself?" Instructor Hao asked, his voice filled with surprise.
For a moment, Hao Ming thought that Li Juanxin received outside help. But he’d been here the entire time and the ink was fresh.
Li Juanxin nodded: "Yes"
Instructor Hao’s expressions shift from surprised to total belief: "This... This is a top quality level zero Inscription!"
He stared at Li Juanxin carefully. Children between seven and nine were still learning to stabilize spiritual energy. Most of them needed several attempts for days to before producing even a half complete inspection.
"Are you sure you didn’t get any outside help?"
Li Juanxin shook his head vigorously. Seeing that the teacher was still suspicious, he explained: "This is only a level zero Inscription and the draft isn’t complicated. I am a level one Inscription master."
If it wasn’t because he was at a bottleneck, he should’ve been at level 2 already.
Many adults trained for years before reaching level 1, and it gets harder and harder to level up. One of the reasons is that the country doesn’t have an advanced Inscription manual and the teaching is often based on old techniques and their experiences.
Instructor Hao suddenly laughed: "Haha! Wonderful! Absolutely Wonderful!"
Before the other students could react, he grabbed Li Juanxin by the shoulders: Come with me."
"Teacher?"
Li Juanxin barely had time to grab his notebook before instructor Hao hurried him outside the classroom.
"Keep practicing, your teacher will be right back." He said to the confused children.
"Where are we going?" Li Juanxin couldn’t help but ask his teacher who was laughing foolishly. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"To the second floor, to meet an old friend." Hao Ming replied
Li Juanxin frowned slightly, he heard that the second floor only had advanced classes.
"Is this about my Inscription?" Li Juanxin asked, trying to keep pace with Hao Ming’s long strides.
"Exactly!" Instructor Hao beamed, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm: "You’ve got a talent that shouldn’t go unnoticed. Instead of being bored in my class, you need to be somewhere that would be more challenging!"
The second floor was much quieter compared to the first floor.
When Hao Ming arrived outside of one of the classrooms, he stopped and knocked on the door.
A lesson was currently in progress inside. At the front of the room stood instructor Jin, a tall man with sharp eyes and a thin beard. He was explaining a complex inscription diagram while several teenagers watched closely.
The moment Hao Ming appeared at the doorway, instructor Jin noticed but he decided to ignore this old friend of his to always bring him trouble. Especially after seeing him with a child, he was determined to ignore him.
Unexpectedly, the other party didn’t take the hint and continued to knock.
Instructor Jin sighed and stepped outside: "Hao Ming? Class ended early?" He asked
Hao Ming shook his head: "I need you to do me a favor."
Instructor Jin had the ’I knew it.’ look at his face. He raised an eyebrow: "What do you need this time?"
"Don’t act like I always ask for favors from you." Hao Ming frown
"You do." Instructor Jin said firmly.
Since they were assigned classes and he was put in the advanced class, while Hao was told to teach the beginner level, the guy acted like he stole his place and kept asking him to do things for him. Luckily, those requests weren’t demanding so he put up with it.
Hao Ming waved his hand: "Fine, whatever you said." He gestured towards Li Juanxin: "This kid is Li Juanxin. I want him to sit in your class."
Instructor Jin followed his gestures and looked at the boy barely reaching Hao Ming’s elbow: "You can’t be serious."
"Although he is only seven years old, he shows promise in Inscriptions beyond his age." Hao Ming explained
"No, if he’s talented then teach him. I’m not running a nursery."
So am I the one who’s running a nursery? You bastard! Hao Ming cursed under his breath but didn’t show it.
He sighed helplessly: "Just listen first."
Instructor Jin sighed impatiently: "Hao Ming, my class is for advanced students. They’re preparing for a level 1 engraving assessment. Why would I bring a child in?"
"What if I told you he’s a level 1 Inscription Master? My class is not challenging enough for him."
Instructor Jin paused, taken aback, his expression shifting from skepticism to curiosity: "A level 1 Inscription Master? At his age? What proof do you have?"
Hao Ming came prepared. He handed him Li Juanxin’s paper. It was the Reinforcement Inscription.
"He drew this in less than ten minutes."
This was really well drawn. Instructor Jin studied the paper and looked at Hao Ming suspiciously: "You’ve lost your mind."
Hao Ming smiled widely: "Maybe... What do you think?"
"My students are doing an Inscription engraving assessment as a challenge after this lesson. There are real prices involved." Instructor Jin said
Hao Ming leaned closer, he lowered his voice into a whisper: "That’s precisely why he should be there. Juanxin could benefit from that challenge. Plus, it would be a chance for your students to see true talent."
Instructor Jin’s eyes narrowed "You can’t be serious. This is ridiculous."
Hao Ming replied earnestly: "Our personal matter is between us. You know I wouldn’t put him in a position he can’t handle."
"Don’t make it sound ambitious." Instructor Jin sighed: "Fine, based on his performance, I’ll see whether he should stay or not."
Hao Ming exhaled in relief: "Thank you."
Instructor Jin only gave him a look and smile at Li Juanxin: "Come in, little one."
