Cyber Era Witch-Chapter 51 - 37 Condominium
51: Chapter 37 Condominium
51 -37 Condominium
“I used to deliver packages.
I can drive a lot of things: trucks, motorcycles, pickups, shuttle machines, etc.” Li Xiaomin flipped out a work badge from under his collar, which bore the name of “Speed Home Express” company.
This delivery service held a certain market share within the jurisdiction of Kyoto Infinity.
“You can head over to the control console and help with the driving.”
“No problem.” Li Xiaomin walked up to the main console of the shuttle machine, and Lila opened up the main operational permissions to manual control.
She only set up the route on the navigation screen, “Where are we headed next?”
“Number 26 Highland, it’s best to find a safe place to rest for a bit.” Xu Yang knew that everyone needed rest now, a chance to catch their breath.
“I used to make deliveries and have been to most places on Number 26 Highland,” said Li Xiaomin, “There are some unmanned supermarkets called Guanzhe Chain Store nearby.
They should be easy to break into now with the power cut, and we could gather quite a bit of food and drink there.”
“Then we’ll look for an unmanned supermarket first,” agreed Xu Yang.
“I used to work at Tortilla Big Hat Shop.” Rosya said, “I can make fried meat pies, uh, manage a shop; I’m good at a lot of things.
I was about to be promoted to store manager if it weren’t for these Ratmen.”
Tortilla Big Hat is one of the giant corporations that originated in the southern part of the Agave Continent in the Western Hemisphere and rose rapidly over the past few decades.
It became a globally popular fast-food giant, offering a variety of tortillas and drinks.
“I like tortillas,” said Kanako enthusiastically, “especially the barbecue flavor.”
“Me too,” agreed Cui Junyou, “I order tortilla delivery every day.”
“Having the chance to try it would be nice,” Xu Yang said, who had only heard of it but never experienced it himself.
Li Xiaomin drove the shuttle machine to the edge of Number 26 Highland, near the row of apartment buildings, all deserted.
Strangely, there were no signs of Ratman invasions, as if the residents had been forewarned and fled in advance.
The ground floors of these apartments housed a large number of street-facing shops, such as barbers, electronics stores, game centers, dance halls, and so on.
All were closed now, dark and silent.
In the narrow streets, neon lights no longer glowed, leaving only colorful advertisements stuck to the shop windows.
Xu Yang glanced at them; unlike the sophisticated ads of the giant corporations, the adverts in the Aizu Urban District used the most blatant elements—a nude woman, enlarged body features, red lips, and huge colorful fonts plastered right in people’s faces, promoting stamps, cheap wares, firearms, anime, and trendy adult games—exactly what the locals needed most.
When they arrived at the entrance to the unmanned supermarket, there was no power inside.
Xu Yang couldn’t detect any device information, so he couldn’t hack in either.
He pushed on the door; it was locked, leaving him only able to look at the abundance of goods on the shelves inside through the glass; so close, yet so far.
“Can’t we get in?” Farosa placed her hand on the glass, “I’m really hungry.”
“Let me try.” Nidelaide placed his hand on the door lock, emitting a buzz of electromagnetic interaction, but there was no change—it seemed to have failed.
He silently moved back to the end of the group.
“I got it wrong,” Li Xiaomin hesitated, “I thought they would open by themselves once the power was out.”
“Wishful thinking!
But don’t worry, maybe there’s food upstairs,” Rosya pointed at the small staircase leading to the apartment complex.
“If we don’t find supplies, we’ll have to search thoroughly,” contemplated Xu Yang, “We need to find a way to open this door.”
In an environment with no electricity and no internet, technical capabilities were inaccessible.
“Huh?” Kanako sounded puzzled.
Xu Yang turned to the voice and saw Asa Katsuragi stripping off her jacket and wrapping it around her fist, using it like a binding cloth.
Then she clenched her fist, charged forward in a quick dash, and slammed into the door like a cow.
Bang!
With a piercing sound of metal tearing, Asa Katsuragi busted the lock.
She rotated her wrists and pushed the door open.
“That’s… that’s amazing,” Kanako was dumbfounded.
Asa Katsuragi simply smiled faintly without taking pride in her strength.
“Hey, hey,” Kanako pointed towards a nearby game store, “Katsuragi, can you smash that one open too?”
“Unless it’s necessary, don’t make trouble,” Xu Yang dismissed Kanako’s idea, “We’re here to rest.”
He walked into the unmanned store; there was a battery-operated clock on the wall, showing it was 2 a.m.
“Aren’t you feeling tired?” Xu Yang continued to ask.
“The later it gets, the more energetic I feel,” said Kanako excitedly, “This time is my workout time.”
“Our task now is to get a good night’s sleep,” Xu Yang thought for a moment, then said, “The Rat Tide hasn’t reached Number 26 Highland yet, but that could change later.
We don’t have much time to really catch our breath.
If you don’t sleep now, you’ll definitely feel exhausted during the escape later.
That’s clear enough, right?”
“Company person,” Kanako pouted.
“He’s looking out for you,” Farosa pulled Kanako into the store.
“I know he’s looking out for me, but…”
Xu Yang held his breath and silently used the Digital Mind to detect the surroundings for any usable signals.
The environment had one characteristic; many places had power, internet too, but the residents had left.
Some had deliberately turned off all the lights and appliances, which is why it was dark here.
The situation was different from the power outage in Katagi District.
Meaning, the residents had intentionally abandoned this area for somewhere else… But where had they gone?
In the face of the Rat Tide crisis, what could be so important that they left everything behind to relocate?
Or had they received some information that made them so determined to move?
After a thorough search in the unmanned supermarket, everyone carried several big bags and went up the next-door staircase to the interior of the apartment building.
Only Lila stayed behind in the shuttle machine to keep watch, monitoring the surroundings.
If Ratmen approached, she would sound the alert.
The apartment had a total of four floors.
Some rooms were not locked; it seemed the residents had left in a rush.
The group decided to borrow the rooms, each finding one to rest in.
After such a long period of conflict and travel, they were indeed extremely exhausted to the point of near collapse.
Xu Yang’s orders gave them a considerable amount of time to recover.
They only realized how much they needed to rest once they lay down on the beds, acknowledging that Xu Yang had made the right decision.
Xu Yang found an empty room in the corner of the fourth floor and lay down.
The room was unrented, the door open, and inside there was only a bed with a white mattress, an empty metal wardrobe, an old-fashioned bedside table, and a black desk—not even a chair was provided.
He pressed the light switch in the room, there was electricity, and the light fluctuated between bright and dim.
To avoid attracting unnecessary attention, he still turned off the light.
Xu Yang climbed onto the bed to lie down, relaxed his overly tired back and waist, propped up his legs, and courted sleep.
At that moment, Farosa suddenly entered.
“How did you come here?” Xu Yang sat up from the bed.
She placed the big plastic bag in her hand on the table, closed the door properly, and most of the contents were coffee.
“Eh, is that bad?” she asked.
“I thought you liked being alone.”
“All these doors are locked, and the others have been taken.”
“There’s only one bed in the room.”
“We could lie down together,” Farosa said very naturally.
“Oh,” Xu Yang didn’t know why but he felt somewhat nervous.
“This thing rustles, and it’s very resilient,” Farosa tugged at the plastic bag, “I really don’t know what it’s made of.”
“Plastic, a product of oil processing.
Oil is an energy resource dug out from underground.”
“There’s so much to learn.”
“Take it easy, you are a witch, smarter than I am.”
“These clothes are both dirty and dusty.” Farosa took off her ill-fitting jacket and shorts.
She didn’t even have underwear on and just stood beside the table eating.
Sharing a room with Farosa made Xu Yang’s heart secretly flutter.
Especially seeing Farosa’s pair of long, fair legs and smooth, delicate feet, her figure comparable to a supermodel, he couldn’t divert his gaze from her.
A noise came from the other side of the wall.
Xu Yang thought there were other survivors in the apartment, but later he recognized Rosya and Li Xiaomin’s voices.
Li Xiaomin whispered something, and Rosya burst into laughter.
After a while.
They were young, but passionate, having survived the brink of life and death, they needed to release pressure.
“What are they doing?” Farosa turned her head.
“Acting like adults,” Xu Yang hadn’t expected that the two of them had gotten so close.
“What does it mean to act like adults?”
“I shouldn’t say,” Xu Yang really found it hard to explain, “That’s quite something, do you really know nothing about it?”
“I’m not sure,” Farosa took out a bag of coffee from the plastic bag.
“If you drink that, you won’t be able to sleep,” Xu Yang said, “It’s stimulating.”
“Magic power is leaking, I need some mental stimulation to compensate slightly,” Farosa said, “Without witch powers, I would feel even worse.”
Mental stimulation…
intense stimulation…
“I know of a way to make you feel very stimulated,” Xu Yang said, “Come close to me.”
Farosa crawled next to Xu Yang, her breath so close it doubled his excitement.
Her soft body was enough to drive any man mad, including Xu Yang.
“If you let go, we can talk about anything.” frёeωebɳovel.com
“Oh,” Farosa loosened her grip.
“You can’t be completely oblivious to these matters,” Xu Yang felt that Farosa was much smarter than she appeared, only she kept a lot to herself, never mentioning a word.
“That’s a long story.”
“You probably don’t like frivolous men.”
“I need a little time to prepare.”
“Prepare for what?”
Farosa’s gaze at Xu Yang turned dark and mysterious, then after a moment, she revealed a sweet smile.
“I need to take a shower first,” she said, “then you can do whatever you want.”
