Daddy, You Got The Wrong Mommy-Chapter 419: As Long As He’s Safe
Detention center.
Benjamin Harper sat quietly in this small four-walled space.
Apart from a pitifully small bed, there was nothing else.
A day had passed, and he didn’t know what was happening outside.
It was truly laughable; he had clearly done nothing, yet here he was, humiliated, waiting for news.
He wondered if he could ever clear his name.
At this moment, the door was opened, and a policeman called out to him, "Benjamin Harper, you can leave now."
He could leave!
Does that mean everything was fine now?
Benjamin slowly got up, "Officer, do you mean I’ve been released without charges?"
"Yes, you’ve been released without charges, now hurry up and go."
The officer, all business, gestured for Benjamin to leave.
Benjamin’s expression relaxed as he followed the officer out.
Outside, Damon Hawke and Amelia Miles were waiting for him to come out.
"Benjamin."
Amelia quickly greeted him when she saw Benjamin coming out.
"Elly."
Benjamin was not surprised and nodded with a smile to Amelia and Damon.
He was able to get out, presumably with their help.
"Mr. Harper, please sign here."
The officer handling the case asked Benjamin to sign a document.
Benjamin skimmed it briefly and signed at the bottom.
"Benjamin, you’re fine now. It was all planned by Xena and her boyfriend to extort money from you."
Amelia explained to Benjamin.
After signing, Benjamin handed the document to the police and thanked them.
He turned to Amelia and nodded, "Thank you, Elly, good thing you helped find the truth."
"No need to thank me, you should thank Serena the most."
Amelia, not daring to take credit, mentioned, "It was Serena who recorded Xena and her boyfriend’s conversation. With the evidence at hand, there was no way for Xena and her boyfriend to deny it."
So it was Serena Wells who helped.
Benjamin felt touched as he looked around, "Where is she?"
Amelia handed Serena’s phone to Benjamin, "This is Serena’s phone, she... is currently in the hospital."
Serena was in the hospital?
Benjamin’s smile paused, "What happened?"
Amelia said nothing, instinctively looking at Damon.
Damon held her close, "Let’s head out first; we can talk as we walk."
...
The hospital.
Pain!
Her whole body hurt.
Serena Wells woke up, staring at the ceiling, only feeling a splitting headache.
After a long daze, she slowly recalled what had happened.
She had found evidence to prove Benjamin Harper’s innocence, but the man tried to snatch her phone away.
They ended up falling down the stairs while struggling over the phone.
So she was injured and hospitalized?
Serena struggled to sit up but then saw her right leg wrapped in layers of white gauze, suspended in the air.
What happened to her leg?
Was it fractured?
She was a dancer; if her leg was broken, she wouldn’t be able to dance in the future.
Serena’s heart sank a little, and moved slightly, attempting to sit up.
"Benjamin, don’t be like this, even if Serena can’t dance in the future, she still has many things she can do. Like being a dance teacher or entering the entertainment industry as an actress."
A woman’s voice came from the door.
Serena paused, perking up her ears.
It was Amelia’s voice.
She was talking to Benjamin.
Had Benjamin already been released?
That was great.
But what did Amelia just say?
She really wouldn’t be able to dance in the future?
At the door, Benjamin looked guilty.
He had seen Serena’s attending physician and personally asked about her condition.
The doctor told him that when Serena fell, she not only hit her head but also her ankle.
So her leg was fractured.
Because the ankle is quite fragile, even if her leg heals, she can’t do high-intensity movements.
And dancing requires foot strength, so Serena can no longer be an outstanding dancer.
"It’s all my fault; if it weren’t for me, Ru wouldn’t have targeted her."
Benjamin’s face was full of guilt, "I didn’t expect Ru Townsend to be so despicable and shameless. Just because I didn’t want to become a couple with her in reality, she colluded with Xena to frame me, implicating Serena to get hurt."
Xena confessed to the police, saying it was all Ru’s idea.
But that was just Xena’s side of the story; she had no evidence to prove it was connected to Ru Townsend.
"That Ru Townsend is indeed despicable. She ruined you and Serena from behind the scenes, and the police can’t do anything about her."
Amelia stood there, looking furious.
Benjamin clenched his fingers, equally angry.
Wasn’t it?
There was no evidence to prove that Ru instructed Xena, so she was still a glamorous big star.
"To punish someone, you don’t always need evidence. Sometimes, public opinion is a sharp weapon."
Next to them, Damon Hawke, with deep black eyes, spoke in a calm voice.
Amelia gave him a look, instantly understanding his meaning.
"Exactly. Benjamin, Damon means that since Ru is a big star, she must have a lot of unknown secrets given her arrogant nature. If we can dig up some dirt on her, we can help you and Serena take revenge."
Hearing this, Damon raised an eyebrow and gave Amelia an approving look.
"Just as expected of my wife, you understand me."
"Of course, I know what you’re thinking with just a glance."
"Yeah, you’re like the worm in my stomach."
"No, I’m not. Don’t say such disgusting things."
The two of them flirted playfully, almost unwittingly.
Benjamin looked at the pair with a hint of envy, recalling Amelia’s words, and a cold smile crept onto his lips.
Indeed.
Sometimes, the most effective strike doesn’t require physical violence.
Ru harmed Serena, and this score, he would settle with her.
"Serena should be awake, I’ll go check on her."
Benjamin glanced at the window, noticing the movement of the figure on the bed, quickly pushing the door open and going inside.
Amelia and Damon followed him in.
On the hospital bed, Serena gazed at the ceiling, still somewhat dazed.
She tried moving her right leg, wanting to verify if it really was fractured.
But she also knew they wouldn’t lie.
She really wouldn’t be able to dance again.
That was her most beloved career, and she could no longer be the graceful bird soaring on stage.
"Serena, you’re awake."
Benjamin walked to the bedside and asked softly.
Serena slowly turned towards him, and upon hearing his gentle tone, her eyes turned red against her will.
"Brother Benjamin, it’s good that you’re okay."
It was worth her broken leg, as long as Benjamin was safe and well.
"Serena, are you in pain? Don’t cry, I’ll call the doctor."
Benjamin said, concernedly rising to call the doctor upon seeing Serena tear up.
"Brother Benjamin, I’m fine, I’m just very emotional."
Serena took a deep breath, trying to suppress her aching heart and forcing a smile.
She didn’t want Benjamin to worry about her.
Even though her heart was now filled with overwhelming sadness.
But it was all worth it.
As long as he was alright.
