Danmachi: Is It Wrong to Be the Main Character in Orario?-Chapter 779: Two Worlds, One Mother, One Patron
"Artemis’s world is also a fully developed world. Of course, she has plenty of trouble over there too, but the gods there aren’t as easy to deal with as ours. And most of them..."
Bell paused, unsure how to continue. Should he just say most of the gods were lunatics?
"Most of them are terrorists. Absolute lunatics!"
Bell hesitated out of courtesy, but Artemis had no such restraint. She exposed the mental instability of her world’s gods without hesitation.
"Most of our gods over there have holes in their heads. Tormenting ordinary humans on the surface? Pretty common."
"Humans over there struggle to survive. Sometimes, when certain pantheons get too out of hand in an era, the world even cuts that era off as a Lostbelt."
Artemis roughly explained what those deranged gods were capable of.
"Of course, our world developed the ’Counter Force’ to keep things from completely spiraling out of control."
"But honestly, sometimes I think the Counter Force pulls stunts just as insane."
Since most gods were lunatics, Artemis had long grown used to their madness. Viewing the Counter Force through the lens of watching mentally unstable gods, she couldn’t help but think the Counter Force itself sometimes behaved just as wildly.
"One embodies humanity’s will—’Alaya Consciousness.’
The other embodies Earth’s will—’Gaia.’"
"It’s because of their intervention that some deranged gods haven’t descended to wreak havoc directly."
Because the Counter Force existed, it restricted certain gods’ freedom to act, functioning almost like a police force.
"But in carrying out this maintenance, Gaia and Alaya Consciousness take completely different positions."
"Gaia believes that as long as the world remains intact, humanity’s survival doesn’t matter. So its approach completely disregards humans, favoring annihilating gods and humans together."
"Alaya Consciousness, however, stands at the opposite extreme. As the embodiment of human will, Alaya Consciousness would sometimes rather sacrifice the world itself if it means humanity can survive in the cracks." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"Uwah, that’s extreme..."
Just hearing Artemis’s explanation was enough for Hestia to imagine the suffering of humanity in that world.
"Either outcome is the worst case for humankind."
"Exactly. Whether it’s the ’protection’ of Alaya Consciousness or the collective destruction under Gaia, for humans caught in between, it’s disaster either way."
Hephaestus only needed to imagine it to understand what kind of misery humans in that world were subjected to.
Classic case of gods fighting while mortals suffer.
There was constant conflict between the two sides of the Counter Force, and the ultimate losers wouldn’t be either side—it would very likely be humans and gods alike.
Bell cut in, stopping the Type-Moon world discussion.
"Let’s set aside that world’s structure for now."
"For power, for authority, even for love—that world can stir up massive chaos. There’s no way to explain things clearly in a short time."
The Type-Moon world was incredibly deep. Its divine systems were complicated and severe, its humans troublesome, and there was always the risk of Outer Gods invading.
Too many problems to count.
Compared with all that, Evilus matters didn’t seem like much.
Though in truth, that difference was only superficial—
If you included the "worlds" themselves, especially considering how many times they had rebooted, both worlds were probably equally troublesome.
Just different shades of the same chaos.
"So let’s just say the two worlds are connected—and both have set their eyes on me."
Bell reached into the void and drew out the Kuji Kanesada.
"This blade is the weapon used by that world’s will upon the earth."
"This sword was in my hands from the very beginning. Clearly, that was His intention."
Freya immediately understood.
"No wonder you mastered that unusual magical script so quickly."
Bell nodded slightly.
"These are Runes—the all-encompassing power used by Odin, the supreme deity of the Type-Moon world. Theoretically, Runes can accomplish anything within the bounds of imagination. The complexity lies in weaving different Runes together."
Sixteen Runic letters suddenly appeared.
Looking at the Runes that had helped him so many times, Bell felt deep gratitude.
"I used to wonder why such an omnipotent power ended up in my hands, but now I understand."
"The Runes weren’t just to give me a safeguard early in my growth—they were meant to push me into mastering every Authority I could imagine."
"And the Authorities I master become knowledge I can never forget, and are absorbed by that sphere. They become nourishment for its growth, helping it perfect itself quickly."
"Even though I still don’t know what that sphere truly is, I’m sure my mother and that young lady’s intentions revolve around it."
Bell had mostly figured out the motives of the two worlds.
Not because he was especially clever, but because events that seemed unreasonable only lacked context about the interests behind them.
Once you understood the profit involved, everything suddenly made sense.
And the moment that sphere was born from his hands, Bell understood all the schemes might finally be clear.
He didn’t resent his mother or that young lady. Gaining something always required paying a price; you couldn’t expect every fortune to fall into your lap.
With that mindset, Bell had no complicated emotions.
His mother was his mother. That young lady had been his early-life benefactor. He felt no negativity toward either.
But there was one thing he couldn’t shake:
Just what was that sphere he created?
What kind of existence drew the attention of two different worlds at the same time?
