Days as a Spiritual Mentor in American Comics-Chapter 4576 - 3658: Injustice League (10)
Chapter 4576 - 3658: Injustice League (10)
The sky was covered with dark clouds, and a gigantic spaceship's shadow loomed faintly. On the ground, which had long been ravaged, the survivors who had endured numerous hardships had already learned to hide in shelters. Even if the world were to be destroyed the next second, there was nothing more they could do.
When they looked up at the spaceship, they could see massive railgun barrels on both sides. But there was something particularly eye-catching at the bottom of the spaceship—a circular chamber with an independent cannon muzzle beneath it.
People recognized what it was because, not long ago, the light emitted by this thing had bottled up two cities on the East Coast of the United States, almost confirming all the human race's terrifying legends about aliens.
People called it the "Collection Engine." They had no idea how it worked and could only pray that its charging speed would slow down, and that their location wouldn't be the next target.
Unfortunately, the Collection Engine charged much faster than they imagined. Before long, an intense white light lit up again, and this time, the muzzle was aimed at a major city on America's East Coast—Boston.
Standing atop a building in Boston, Hal's eyes glowed with a ghostly green light. The Green Lantern energy, which in most people's eyes should represent justice and peace, possessed a slightly terrifying aura when emanating from him.
Hal made no movement, but Superman, standing behind him, saw countless thin green lines spreading out from him, weaving into a large net that slowly merged into the white light emitted by the Collection Engine.
Every green line was compressed Green Lantern energy. Even though Superman was not sensitive to energy, he could completely feel that the energy surrounding him was incredibly abundant.
Soon, the Green Lantern energy vanished into the white light, but everyone could sense that the nature of the white light had changed—it was no longer the force directly manipulated by Brainiac; the power source had become Hal.
No one knew how he did it. He still appeared very calm, which made Superman feel tricky. He initially thought this could deplete some of Hal's power, making it easier to act later.
The entire city of Boston rose into the air and began to shrink in the light. The green glow in Hal's eyes still didn't extinguish, letting others know that he was likely controlling the city shrinking process.
Cyborg discreetly nodded to Batman. Batman understood that his suspicions were correct, and then he looked at Hal again. Despite being somewhat prepared, this universe's Green Lantern was much stronger than he imagined.
At this moment, only from an angle Superman could see, Hal's fingertip trembled slightly. Superman's super vision allowed him to catch this detail. He squinted his eyes, with a barely noticeable smile on his lips.
It was indeed so. Although he and Batman's group were at odds now, Hal was facing three others from different universes alone. Even if he had consumed a lot of power, he could not afford to show weakness.
Superman believed he had found Hal's flaw and started contemplating previous plans. Although Wonder Woman was irritatingly foolish, she was undoubtedly his steadfast ally. As long as she was around, Batman couldn't easily sneak past.
The city grew smaller and smaller, and the white light gradually formed a spherical shield, encompassing the entire city, then following the Collection Engine's suction, and subsequently being transported to Brainiac's Collection Laboratory via a conduit.
When the city entered, Brainiac wasn't there. He actually didn't even consider a city as a worthy collectible.
His continuous collection of American cities was to pressure Superman and Batman. His real target was the entire Earth; he wasn't that concerned about these smaller collectibles.
This gave the group an opportunity to act. When the sphere containing Boston was placed on the shelf by a mechanical arm, standing on the rooftop, Hal waved his hand, and with a flash of green light, the group appeared inside the Collection Laboratory.
The lab was filled with various collectibles, mostly cities or planets stored in bottles. Some appeared like anthropomorphic structures, but others were bizarrely strange.
The group had no leisure to sightsee, so they left the Collection Laboratory. Superman utilized his super hearing to distinguish the direction, then said, "There are sounds of large equipment operating on the lower level; there might be the interface you're looking for."
Cyborg nodded and said, "I also sense a signal on the lower level; let's head down first." fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
They traversed the corridors of the spaceship's chambers, heading towards the elevator. But just as they were nearing the elevator, a patrolling spherical robot suddenly flew over.
Upon spotting the group, it emitted a sharp, piercing alarm:
"Warning! Warning! Intruders!!!"
Instantly, the security robots on the other side of the corridor swarmed over. Seeing that the elevator was no longer an option, the group immediately dashed back in the direction they came from.
There was no staircase there, just a small atrium. Fortunately, each of them was exceptionally skilled, jumping down one by one. The security robots chased behind them, but none of the mounted laser weapons landed a hit.
The lower level indeed housed important equipment, but security here was evidently much stricter. As they just landed, they saw a group of security robots. The robots first sent warnings, then immediately opened fire on them.
But these weren't equipped with small laser guns; they were armed with deadly energy weapons. The leading robot floated in the air; its arm was a powerful electromagnetic cannon unlike any Batman had seen. One shot melted the corridor's thick metal walls, and they could feel the high temperatures from afar.
"Go quickly!" Batman said.
"This way! I can feel the signal over here!" Cyborg ran towards the other side of the corridor.
The group dashed towards that direction. Cyborg stopped in front of a door, and Superman punched it, leaving a dent but not budging the thick metal door.
Hal crouched down, placing his hand on the ground, with Green Lantern energy spreading through the door's crevices, unlocking it from within. They rushed in, closed the door, and sealed the security robots outside.
"Seal the door! Give me two minutes!" Cyborg said as he walked inside.
Superman immediately braced himself against the door.
He knew it was futile because the security robots on the other side were using energy weapons that could even melt metal. Doing a "hot cut" on the door wouldn't be difficult at all.
The only way to counter energy weapons is with energy weapons, and among them, only Green Lantern Hal could use energy — which meant further consuming Hal's energy.
A buzzing sound came from outside the door. The temperature of the door surface began to rise, and blue flames even sprouted from the gap above. The center of the door began to deform due to the excessive heat.
"Damn it," Superman cursed. "This won't work. We must stop their energy weapons!"
"I'll do it," Hal stepped forward and said.
He knelt on one knee, placed his hand on the ground, and Green Lantern energy spread through the door crack. Without any sound, the door returned to its original state, and he even gave those security robots outside a beating.
However, more and more security robots began rushing over. Brainiac seemed to have noticed them as well.
Superman, with his super hearing, could hear something big coming their way. He turned to look at Cyborg.
"Is it done?" Batman walked over to Cyborg and asked.
"I've found the spaceship blueprints, but the encryption is strict. I need a bit more time..."
"It's okay, we can hold on," Superman said.
Boom!!!
Just as he finished speaking, the door was blasted away. A massive floating turret appeared in the doorway. Hal waved his hand abruptly, and a green barrier appeared in front of them.
Boom!!
Another blast sent Hal and Superman flying. Brainiac's voice echoed in the room:
"I never expected you to get this far," his voice carried a cold, inorganic detachment, "I'm afraid you won't get a chance to leave."
More and more robots flew over, some resembling flying cannons, some like spherical robots, and some with bizarre structures, seemingly mimicking certain biological structures.
But without exception, these robots could cause significant trouble for humanoid creatures. They had the flames, high temperatures, and explosions that carbon-based life feared the most, clearly designed to deal with beings like Superman and his allies.
"Done!!" Cyborg shouted, "I've copied everything, let's go!!"
Seeing more and more robots pouring in through the doorway, everyone looked grave. Superman then said, "I'll clear the way! You guys run!!"
With that, he charged into the robot swarm, took a deep breath, and froze all the surrounding robots with a blast of frozen breath. Batman and Cyborg seized the opportunity to run out.
Hal was originally following them, but the number of robots in the corridor was overwhelming. To protect the other two's exit, Hal had to use Green Lantern energy to destroy the robots in front of him while maintaining a shield to prevent the robots that could launch energy cannonballs from delivering a harsh strike.
As he broke through, Hal's arm trembled perceptibly. Approaching the porthole, he said, "I'm running low on energy, you go first."
Batman and Cyborg, aware of the importance of the data they held, didn't stand on ceremony with Hal and quickly broke through the porthole and jumped out.
The pursuers quickly arrived, and Hal appeared to struggle. When Superman flew over, he said, "We need to clear out these robots, or Batman and the others might not escape."
Hal nodded, his breathing much heavier than before. Superman took note of everything.
At that moment, the same turret robot that had breached the door began to move closer, mingling with the other robots. Superman, with his super vision, had noticed it but deliberately did not warn them, instead pretending to gather strength and stepping back two steps.
Boom!!!
The turret robot's cannonball hit Hal directly, who was busy destroying other robots. With his Green Lantern energy depleted, the last shield he released was as thin as paper, shattering instantly.
Hal was immediately sent flying, crashing hard into the porthole and losing consciousness. Superman went over to scoop him up, finally unleashed a frozen breath on the robots, and flew out the window with him.
