Days of Living with My Sister-in-Law-Chapter 213: The Center of Attention
"Jiaqi, please stop..." A look of helplessness crossed Shen Jiawen’s pretty face.
Shen Jiaqi’s eyes widened in surprise. "Sis, don’t tell me you already knew that guy was cheating on you? He has a wonderful wife like you, but he doesn’t cherish you and fools around with other women instead. That Chen Xiaobei is a real bastard!"
"Sis, don’t be afraid! When that scoundrel gets back, I’m going to give him a piece of my mind." Shen Jiaqi rolled up her sleeves, her cute face set in an adorably fierce expression.
"Jiaqi, don’t!" Shen Jiawen sighed. "Actually, I don’t know for sure whether Xiaobei cheated, but even if he did, it doesn’t matter anymore. He’s so outstanding—he even took down a giant like the Li Family. Naturally, plenty of girls are drawn to him."
"A river too clear has no fish. As long as I have a place in Xiaobei’s heart, I’m already content."
Hearing this, Shen Jiaqi was completely stunned. If it weren’t for the light she could still see in her sister’s eyes, Shen Jiaqi would have thought she’d been brainwashed by Chen Xiaobei. Honestly, she felt deeply uneasy. Chen Xiaobei was capable, that much was true, but her sister’s subservient love for him felt profoundly wrong.
However, since Shen Jiawen had put it that way, Shen Jiaqi didn’t know what else to say. But she had made up her mind. I have to find a chance to talk to Chen Xiaobei! How good has my sister been to him? How could he bear to break her heart?!
Just as she was thinking this, Chen Xiaobei drove up.
In stark contrast to the cold shoulder he’d received at Shen Wanshan’s home, Chen Xiaobei was now the star of the show. Before he could even enter the courtyard, he was surrounded by neighbors.
"Xiuqing, this young man must be Jiawen’s boyfriend, right? He looks so strong."
"Wow! I always thought bosses were pot-bellied and greasy, but I never expected him to be in such great shape!"
"Xiuqing, you’ve really found a good son-in-law. From now on, the title of the richest family in Qinghua Village is going to change hands."
"Hey handsome, want to add me on WeChat?"
The neighbors chattered away, and several of the younger women kept shooting flirtatious glances at Chen Xiaobei. Feeling the warmth from the crowd, only one word came to his mind. Awesome!
But he remained clear-headed. The only reason I can enjoy this glory is because of Xi Yao. Right now, I’ve only cultivated the second level of the Nine Heavens Demon-Vanquishing Technique halfway. I’m still light-years away from the Mahayana Realm. To save Xi Yao from her sea of suffering and to make sure I’m not bullied in the future, the most important thing is to keep cultivating and acquiring Mysterious Yin Energy.
The moment he thought of this, an image of his sister-in-law surfaced in his mind.
Ever since Qiu Xingcai and Luo Qingcheng had visited Shanhe Village, Shen Jiawen had seen how affectionate they were with Chen Xiaobei, and a deep-seated sense of inferiority had taken root in her heart. That was why she had temporarily separated from him and returned to her parents’ home.
Today, however, Chen Xiaobei could clearly see that his sister-in-law’s feelings for him hadn’t faded; they were just as fervent as before.
In that case, it’s time to make things official between us! It’s also the perfect chance to tell her my other piece of wonderful news.
"Auntie, where’s my sister-in-law?"
"She’s in the house," Han Xiuqing replied with a warm smile. Before, she’d found Chen Xiaobei completely disagreeable, but now, the more she looked at him, the more she liked him.
A moment later, Han Xiuqing said awkwardly, "Xiaobei, I owe you an apology. I misunderstood you before because I didn’t know you well. I hope you won’t hold it against me."
"Hahaha! Auntie, you’re overthinking it. We’re all family here; I’m not that petty." Chen Xiaobei scratched his head and handed a bank card to Han Xiuqing. "Oh right, Auntie, I’ve deposited a million in this card, and the password is on the back. I meant to give it to you this morning, but I was too busy to get it out. Please, take it."
Han Xiuqing’s hands trembled. She quickly tried to refuse. "Xiaobei, no, I can’t possibly take this money!"
"You must!" Chen Xiaobei said solemnly. "Auntie, please think of this as the betrothal gift for my sister-in-law. As her mother, no one is more entitled to this money than you. Oh, and let me know when it runs out. Our family isn’t short on cash!"
What a declaration! The mood on the scene practically exploded.
"Oh my God, he’s so generous! I’m dying of envy!"
"Xiuqing, all your hardships are finally over. You’ve found a great son-in-law."
"Handsome, are you looking for a secretary? A professional one is fine... but an unprofessional one would be okay too!"
The young women in the crowd were going wild, their eyes practically glowing as they stared at Chen Xiaobei.
Han Xiuqing’s expression hardened instantly. "Go on, shoo! Find your own men and keep your hands off my son-in-law!" she huffed. "Xiaobei, come inside with Auntie."
With that, Han Xiuqing took Chen Xiaobei by the hand and led him into the house.
Inside, Qiao Shu was sitting on the heated platform bed, holding Xin Xin and lulling her to sleep. Although she had never had children, she held the baby with a natural grace that gave her a rare maternal glow.
Seeing Xin Xin sleeping so soundly, Chen Xiaobei teased, "I’m surprised you know how to soothe a child. You’re full of surprises."
"Please don’t tease me, Boss Chen," Qiao Shu sighed. "My parents always favored boys over girls. As the eldest, I helped them look after my little brother since I was young. So, even though I’ve never been married, I have more experience than any hired maternity nurse."
As she spoke, a clear sadness surfaced in her eyes, a testament to a difficult childhood.
Chen Xiaobei hadn’t meant to open an old wound. With Han Xiuqing watching, he didn’t dare comfort her with a hug, so he just changed the subject. "By the way, where is my sister-in-law?"
"Shen Jiaqi called her into the back room. I guess they’re talking." Qiao Shu looked at him expectantly. "Boss Chen, when are we heading back?"
She was growing impatient. Ever since Chen Xiaobei had ruthlessly taken her, she had become completely addicted to the sensation. She thought about it day and night, tossing and turning, an unbearable itch deep inside her that only he could scratch. If Han Xiuqing weren’t in the room watching them, she would have stripped naked and jumped him right then and there.
"Soon. Just wait a little longer," Chen Xiaobei said with a small smile.
Right now, he only wanted to bed his sister-in-law; Qiao Shu didn’t hold the same intense appeal. But just because he didn’t want to sleep with her didn’t mean he wasn’t interested in other things. Thinking of the way she had kicked Zheng Qiang earlier, he couldn’t help but ask, "By the way, have you ever studied martial arts?"
"Nope!"
"Then how are you so strong? You sent Zheng Qiang flying with one kick!"
"I don’t know!" Qiao Shu shook her head. "Actually, ever since you, uh... did that to me last time, I’ve noticed I’m different. Not only have I gotten prettier, but I feel like I have an endless supply of strength!"
"Really? That amazing?" Chen Xiaobei was taken aback. "Hold out your hand. Let me check your pulse."
