Chapter 24: 24, Manager Zhao, not Manager Zhao

In front of the manager’s office of the Human Resources Department, Yu Yang gently knocked on the door. After getting permission from inside, she opened the door and led Song Qinghuan in, then respectfully announced, “Manager, Song Qinghuan has arrived.”
A deep voice replied as Zhao Jingcheng put down his work and looked up at them, “Mmm, you can go first.”
“Yes!” Yu Yang nodded lightly, turned around, and left the office.
However, she did not leave right away. Instead, she stood outside the door, her ear pressed against it in a stealthy manner, purely because she was too curious about Song Qinghuan’s true identity.
Upon entering the office, Song Qinghuan immediately spotted a middle-aged man seated at the back of the room, who appeared to be in his forties with neatly combed hair, was schmick and shiny. His slightly weather-beaten face was inscribed with the marks of read like time, and though his apparent affability emanated from his faint smile, there was a penetrating yet bright look in his eyes that instantly conveyed his considerable experience in evaluating people.
Song Qinghuan was taken aback, her eyes stretching wide as if a bomb had exploded in her mind, its shock leaving her struggling to stay on her feet.
Once Yu Yang had left, she was unable to hold back her prompt question, “Are you Manager Zhao?”
She knew this question was redundant since Yu Yang had just addressed him as Manager Zhao, and he did indeed look to be the manager, but then who was the aloof and elegant man she had encountered yesterday?
Who could tell her? Was it her sight that was the issue yesterday? Or is it today?

Zhao Jingnan remained smiling, but his words were razor-sharp, “Miss Song, did you not clearly read the sign on the door before entering this office? Each office door at Times Group clearly marks the occupant’s department, position, and name.”
Song Qinghuan quickly lowered her head, assuming a chastised expression, “I apologize, Manager Zhao.”
Good heavens, she was going to be completely taken aback!
If “Manager Zhao” is not the real Manager Zhao, then who is “Manager Zhao”? And how could he allow her to enter Times Group?
This question was like a heavy stone weighing heavily on Song Qinghuan’s heart, making her almost breathless.
Zhao Jingnan did smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes, as he gave Song Qinghuan a meaningful look and added, “In today’s society, there are plenty of people who rely on connections. But without actual abilities, these connections end up worthless.”
Yesterday, he received a call from the president of the company ordering him to arrange a position for Song Qinghuan. Zhao Jingnan, known for his distinct separation of work and personal matters, absolutely despised employees who secured their jobs via connections or who were dropped into positions out of the blue, this therefore made his initial impression of Song Qinghuan extremely unfavorable.
Unsure of what to say, Song Qinghuan’s expression turned rigid.
She tugged at the corner of her mouth, the attempt at a smile coming out more pained than if she was crying. “I understand, Manager.”
Zhao Jingnan, his expression still serene yet cutting, took out a form and pushed it forward, “Fill this out.”
