Chapter 158: Chapter 158

Aiden screamed in pain from the attacks of the ghosts.

At this stage, no one would have a defence against mind attacks. Even Aaron doesn’t have any, though he has had ghosts for a while, which are known to attack minds.

The problem was not that he was sloppy, but that he couldn’t find a mind skill, not in the capital market or in the academy.

Mind skills are rare and very costly, at least that was what the books that Aaron read mentioned about them. Among mind skills, attack skills are a bit more available than defence skills, but the demand is in reverse.

Everyone would like to have a defence skill, even if they didn’t have any mind attack skills.

With so much demand for these skills, they would never appear in the market unless the sellers were in dire need of something better for themselves. If not, even if they have extra mind skills, the excess would be left for their descendants.

Even when they were up for sale, they wouldn’t appear in the open market. They would only appear in high-end auctions, and they would be sold for millions. So, not everyone can get their hands on them, and even if some rich family does it, they won’t hand out mind attack skills.

They would want to give them defence against mind skills, to improve their defence against mind attacks. If not for the summoned undead, there would have been no mind attack at this point. No one expected that to happen.

This was the reason why Aiden’s master didn’t give him any mind protection items, and even Aiden didn’t think that there would be mind skills appearing in the battle either.

Only the people who saw ghosts summoned by Aaron, and had an idea about Ghost’s skills, knew what had just happened was as expected.

---

Seeing Aiden screaming in pain, and with the injuries caused by the skeletons stacked up by the second, the coordinator intervened and stopped the match.

"That’s enough", he looked at Aaron and gave the order, which Aaron didn’t dare to ignore.

The man was powerful than him, and ignoring the order would cause him new problems. Though he wanted Aiden to suffer a bit and be humiliated with the defeat, he didn’t dare to go against the coordinator.

The man was powerful on his own, and here he represents the alliance. So, Aaron immediately ordered his skeletons and ghosts to pull back, and unsummoned them.

Even then, Aiden didn’t stop the cries. The injuries were severe and would require a lot of treatment to recover.

"Med team, what are you looking for?" the man shouted at the med team nearby, then he remembered why they didn’t come to pick the boy up.

He turned to the spectators and loudly declared, "Number 57 wins".

Many cheered after the declaration, especially the ones who are affiliated or allied with the Dusk Academy. Though names were said out, one can easily determine that the winner belonged to Dusk Academy from the lapel he wore.

Once the declaration of win was given, Aaron left the stage, while the med team took Aiden to the Medic hall to treat him. They saw him attacked by ghosts, which is a mind attack skill, so a better medic and better equipment were needed to treat the problem.

Aaron didn’t care about Aiden at all. If he were a normal opponent, he would have just attacked him with mind skills just once as a last option, not multiple times.

Since that idiot created an enmity among them out of nowhere, Aaron didn’t feel bad about causing issues for Aiden. If it was just rivalry, then that might have been good for both of them, as rivalry would make sure that the better one wouldn’t slack for fear that their rival might surpass them, while the lesser one wouldn’t slack either, always trying to be the best of the two.

What Aaron saw in Aiden’s eyes was not that of a rival. No, Aiden clearly looked down on Aaron solely based on his profession. Also, from his words and the way Aiden spoke, one can easily see that he was envious of Aaron’s position in the alliance exam a few months back.

Aiden knew about Mary Hinters, who awakened an SS-Rank class and thought he would be second in the exam because of her presence, but when the results came, he was still second, though Mary skipped the exam part and directly entered the Capital Academy.

This angered him a lot, but due to his father’s presence, he didn’t do anything stupid at that time. After coming to the Luminar Academy, he was accepted as a disciple of one of the professors.

Normally, that won’t happen until the second year or even the third year.

Accepting Aiden as a disciple that early only boosted his ego, and he even got a few followers in the academy. This made him look down on others, even in his academy. His ego inflated to a high altitude, until he saw Aaron as one of the 225 competitors in Stage Two.

When the computer matched them for the first match, he couldn’t suppress his feelings of jealousy and anger anymore. He vented them on Aaron, and Aaron clearly understood from his words that if given a chance, Aiden might kill him to show the world who is better.

Such a person can’t be left alive, for Aaron’s own sake, but they were in public, among so many spectators. Killing him would be impossible, and even if he eliminates Aiden, he would only make enemies with a lot more. That’s not worth the risk.

Instead of that, he damaged his foundation a little. Though by doing so, the enmity would increase, Aaron didn’t care about that. He already felt that Aiden might not let him live if they ever found themselves out in the wild. So, damaging his growth would make him weaker than Aaron, which means he would be safer and at the same time, it felt satisfactory.

While Aaron returned to the stands, the world didn’t stop, new numbers were selected for the next match.
