"What the hell is he doing?" Aaron wondered when he saw the scene where the man was performing the ritual.

Aaron recognised the ritual from a book in the Academy’s library. It was a sacrificial ritual. Though it didn’t look exactly, there are many similarities with what he has seen in the books. He didn’t think much about why it looked vastly different.

Whatever the information that the alliance got about these sacrifices should be old.

While the alliance was trying to find a way to make the sacrifices obsolete, the criminal elements in the society should also be working to make the sacrifices even more powerful and better than before.

This is quite common. So, Aaron just thought that it might be the upgraded version, but what made him wonder was the absence of any sacrifices and the weird energy he felt flowing into the circle.

Aaron, though found no knowledge of Death Energy in the books, except that it is found primarily in Death Lands, he didn’t think that there was anyone out there who could wield Death Energy, but he never thought that it was used like this.

He immediately connected everything.

The absence of sacrifices and the battles that were going on outside. The man standing inside the ritual was somehow turning the deaths occurring outside into fuel for the ritual.

With such a ritual, it doesn’t matter who dies. As long as there is death, it will be fuelling the ritual.

So, even killing all those criminals might not stop whatever their purpose was. It might even help them complete their purpose. So, the best way to do this was to stop the ritual here and now.

The man stopped the ritual. He sensed that he was not alone in the basement.

He turned around and easily found Aaron, as Aaron was not shielding his presence in the first place.

"Hahaha, they sent a kid to stop me? Hehe, another sacrifice ready for the ritual", the man laughed out loudly, thinking that he was getting too close to completing the ritual.

The man didn’t think that the place was found. It would be weird if it were not found, as this was their first trial at making use of this type of ritual, and the city’s higher-ups are not idiots.

They would sense something was wrong and would sooner or later send someone to investigate before the ritual was done.

While his colleagues are causing damage to the city, he was here converting those deaths into sacrifices for the ritual.

The cults have found a way to turn any death in the vicinity of the ritual site into a sacrifice for the ritual.

Back then, sacrifices had to be brought to the ritual circle in order to actually be considered as sacrifices. In that way, they couldn’t bring too many sacrifices as it would attract the attention of the authorities.

Once authorities catch hold of this, rescue operations would be launched, and those prisoners who were brought for the sacrifice would be saved. It would be a waste of all the preparations done beforehand.

Instead of going through all that hassle, after years of experimentation and research, they found a way to bypass that.

They found a way to make deaths happen not just in the circle but even outside as long as they were done within a certain radius of the circle to count as sacrifices. This way, they overcame the problem of people getting rescued from their prisons.

Of course, such practice has its own limitations.

The radius wouldn’t be too large, and for the deaths to be accepted as sacrifices, some conduits are needed. If they were lost, any death in that place would not be considered a sacrifice.

Aaron thought about that, but he did not have much knowledge when it came to rituals. He has only done one, and that too, as it was described in a book. Other than that, he didn’t pay much attention to them.

It was not because he was not good at the rituals, but because they demanded some price.

The one that he did inflicted a lot of pain on his body, which made him push away from doing any rituals again, at least for the near future.

Since Aaron had no knowledge of finding the conduits, he decided to destroy the main point, which would end the ritual.

The man’s eyes bulged in fear when he saw the ghosts. His laughter faltered when he saw the sheer size of the ghosts present.

Along with that, there was something dire present among the summoned. The man couldn’t recognise it, but he felt the most fear from that creature.

It was none other than the Lich Mage, his latest summon.

After gaining this new summon, he didn’t have any chance to check its prowess. Aaron felt that this would be the best scenario.

"Kill him", Aaron ordered his summons as soon as he summoned them.

The Lich, once it had received the order from its master, began to act.

It was unlike the other undead, which had minimal intelligence. The Lich’s intelligence can be considered equal to any civilised being who can think.

After it was summoned, it didn’t get a chance to show its prowess, and it wanted to show its power to gain its master’s approval.

To the summoned creatures, their master was the god, and their approval would mean more than their life.

The skeletons and the ghosts might not understand that, but they had given their lives to protect Aaron whenever he was in danger, for this same reason.

The Lich didn’t waste any time and started to act.
