Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 260
Chapter 260: Chapter 260
More than a month ago, the team of twenty left the Last Bastion. The weakest among them was low Rank-6, and the highest was peak Rank-7. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
The fort commander has already made them understand that this mission might be a suicide mission. The chances of them returning alive would be very low. So, everyone who went did so voluntarily.
More than half of them were military.
They are someone who has already prepared for death. So, they didn’t back down even when they learned that this could be their last mission. This was something they signed up for a long time ago.
Moreover, they knew that the higher-ups wouldn’t send them to death missions unless it was so important that it couldn’t be ignored.
Missions like that are usually what could cause major turmoil in society. So, even the fort commander didn’t say much, even though he himself was in the dark about this mission.
As a Rank-8 awakener and also a general, he should have come to know about the missions, even secret ones, but this one was classified well above his pay grade. He made inquiries when he received the order for a team.
He didn’t want his soldiers to walk into whatever was happening blindly, but he found nothing. The only thing that he found was that Rank-9 was required to know the details about this mission, or had to be participating directly in the mission.
Other than that, no one was able to know anything.
The commander immediately understood that this was a priority mission and possibly a suicide mission. So, he could only make sure that his soldiers knew what they were probably walking into, and yet the twenty required came easily.
Once the twenty were selected, they were sent to the capital, where the other two teams arrived just before them. None of the teams had someone below Rank-6 as ordered. There was even a Rank-8 among them, though the person was someone who had only recently reached that rank.
When the teams arrived at the same place, the weather was sombre.
No one who came here was stupid, nor were their commanders who sent them here. They all had an idea that there was a high possibility that they might not return alive from this mission. Even if they did, there is a chance they would be taking no more missions later on.
They had accepted the fact, but that doesn’t mean they would give up their chance at living. They were all thinking of ways that would let them survive, though the chances were low.
---
Half an hour later, another ten arrived.
The sixty that were already here were surprised to see that ten more were added to this expedition, as their commanders had found that orders were sent to three places and from each, the demand was for twenty, making the total sixty.
What was even more surprising was the fact that the Rank-8 professional, who thought that he was the most powerful of the members, would be the leader of this expedition, felt suffocation when these ten entered.
The powerful Rank-8 professional felt the power level of only one of them, which seemed to be the same as his, but the others, he felt that they were even more powerful. Half of them felt more powerful than their commander.
He understood that the people who came just in are very powerful, and probably the ones who knew what this mission was about, as none of the sixty were briefed about the mission beforehand.
"Hello, I am James Tuner, Rank-9 Spear Knight. I would be your leader for this expedition", the one with golden blond hair among the ten spoke.
He then turned towards the other nine, "These are also part of this expedition, and the weakest of them was early Rank-8".
Hearing those words, everyone understood that the true power players of this mission are here. They, on the other hand, were just to fill in the lower positions, which means menial work that those powerful players wouldn’t reduce themselves to picking up.
In addition to that, looking at the powerful seniors, the sixty received the confirmation that this mission is not going to be easy at all. They felt fear for the first time since they heard the orders. They have come to peace with what would happen, but now seeing someone who was considered to stand at the peak stages of human power, they felt the burden of the mission, and the fear crept back in.
This was true especially for the Rank-6 professionals.
If this mission involved Rank-8 and Rank-9, then the difficulty of the mission has reached a peak that they couldn’t even imagine. If there are such powers on the opposite side, then the Rank-6 would be nothing more than the Cannon Fodder.
There is a high chance that they would not return. This is what Rank-6 were thinking, but Rank-7 and Rank-8, though they felt fear about the mission’s objective, a part of their mind told them, with such powerful professionals present, even if something abrupt happened, they wouldn’t need to feel worried about that.
They would be safe, most likely.
---
"Now that everyone is here, you all must be wondering what our mission is, which requires so many powerhouses. Before I tell you this, remember that this information doesn’t leave this room, and anything regarding this mission has to pass through me to the outside, where only a few knew about this mission", James spoke.
It was not a request but an order.
He looked around to see if there were any who were most likely to break such a chain.
"The alliance has received a piece of news from one of our spies who infiltrated the cults, the most powerful one. The spy found..." James went on to tell them about the anomaly that the cults found in the Wasteland and the teams that they sent to find it, after their diviners said that the power there, if controlled, could eliminate the alliance.
He also revealed that the teams failed in the endeavour and are probably dead. Now the cults are waiting for someone called the Supreme to deal with the issue.
James informed the members that Supreme was a wanted man by the alliance, possibly a peak Rank-8 to mid Rank-9 professional. Except for the information that the Supreme is powerful, they have nothing else regarding the Supreme.
The mission has two objectives.
The main one is to make sure that whatever was buried in that wasteland, it can’t fall into the hands of the cults.
The secondary objective was to capture or kill the supreme. If that fails, even injuring heavily was the last option, so that supreme wouldn’t disturb the war with the cults.
Hearing those words, everyone turned silent. They couldn’t process the mission details at all.
One thing they felt was that there was a 90% chance that they wouldn’t return intact, but there was nothing they could do but continue.
"Now that everyone has heard about the mission, let’s move. There is no direct teleportation from here to the Wasteland, as it was not exactly guarded as the other parts of the borders were. So, we can only go to the nearest city, a Tier-1 city called Rock City, where there is a small teleportation circle was established recently".
"It means it would take a long time for the teleportation, unlike how it was before. So, let’s not waste any time. Once we reach that city, there will be vehicles for us waiting there", James ended his speech and walked out.
The nine that followed him knew about this beforehand, which made it possible to avoid brain freeze like others and were able to follow James outside.
Slowly, one by one, they came out of their daze and followed them towards the teleportation circle.
