Chapter 174: Chapter 174: Let Her Go

Natalie felt that all this had been calculated by her father, Matthew.

This morning, her brother Julian went on a business trip to M-Country, on behalf of the Beckett Group to negotiate a very important project.

Because it was so important, there was absolutely no way he could return midway.

And Matthew had planned this timing meticulously.

What surprised Natalie was that Cynthia would choose to turn to her for help.

Driving on her way there, she suddenly recalled an old memory from years ago.

It was the second year she had been brought back to the Beckett family by Matthew.

After the final exams, there would be a parent meeting.

And that time, she had scored first place in the final exams.

When she excitedly shared the news with Matthew, he pulled her into his arms, rewarding her with a pat on the head, asking her what reward she wanted.

She immediately mentioned the parent meeting, hoping only that Matthew could attend.

Matthew initially agreed wholeheartedly, but when he found out that the meeting conflicted with one of his own, he decisively chose the meeting.

She always remembered, in the classroom, every seat but hers had classmates’ parents sitting there.

Just as she hung her head in disappointment, eyes brimming with tears about to spill over, the quiet corridor echoed with rhythmic "click-clack" sounds of high heels.

Cynthia approached elegantly, dressed in an exquisite cream-colored suit.

Standing before Natalie, she demanded coldly, "Look up."

Natalie tilted her small face up, tears veiling her eyes, making Cynthia’s figure hard to discern, and softly, with a hint of grievance, she called her, "Mom..."

Cynthia slightly furrowed her brows, her tone flat, "Why cry? Didn’t you get first place?"

Natalie nodded, wiping her eyes, "Yes, first place."

Cynthia crouched down and stared into her eyes, "First place doesn’t cry, second place cries. Do you want to be second next time?"

Natalie shook her head vigorously, voice muffled, "Don’t want."

"Hmm."

Cynthia stepped into the classroom. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Natalie heard her saying to the teacher, "Sorry I’m late, I’m Natalie’s parent."

She didn’t say she was Nath’s mom.

But it was enough to make Natalie happy.

——

The car stopped at the Beckett family’s door.

The gate was wide open.

Natalie got out and walked in.

Before entering the living room, she heard Matthew’s icy voice, "This is how you are. Cynthia, you’re ill, and it’s serious."

"There are doctors and nurses at the sanatorium. They’ll treat you, take care of you. When you’re better, I’ll bring you back."

"Bullshit!" Cynthia’s face was pale, her hair disheveled, no trace of her usual dignified demeanor.

Matthew sat on the sofa, looking at her with disgust, "Look at you, sick but won’t admit it. Alas, I’m left without options."

He instructed the bodyguards nearby, "Why are you just standing there? Escort Madam into the car."

Following orders, the bodyguards began walking toward Cynthia.

"Get away! Get away!"

Cynthia growled, attempting to run, but was caught within two steps.

Her arms twisted behind her, held in a humiliating manner, devoid of dignity.

"What is happening here?"

A cold female voice suddenly pierced the air.

Matthew looked surprised at the sudden appearance of Natalie.

"Nat? Why are you back?"

Natalie’s gaze locked onto Cynthia, grabbed by bodyguards, with sharp intensity, "Let her go."

"Nat, your mother is ill. Haven’t I told you before?"

Matthew stepped to Natalie, grasping her shoulder as a warning, "Your mom needs to go to the sanatorium. Everything will be resolved this way."
