Delayed Passion: Miss Lynch's Unrequited Love-Chapter 66: Acting Coy
As soon as the words were spoken, Sean Bell narrowed his dark eyes in a dangerous manner, looking at her with an unfriendly expression.
"You were the one in the wrong first, isn’t apologizing the right thing to do?" Thea Lynch glared back, not giving him a pleasant look either.
The two were at an impasse, "Tsk, I can’t communicate with you."
Sean Bell turned away first, refusing to engage with her.
He didn’t want to bring up the issue again, and continuing to talk with Thea Lynch would only lead to one result—a fight.
Right now, he simply couldn’t stay calm.
Seeing the situation was dire, Silas Cheney quickly stepped in to ease the tension, fearing that Thea Lynch might truly get angry with him.
"I’ll accompany him tonight, just don’t worry about it." Silas changed the subject, "This cold is quite severe, why not go to the hospital?"
Thea Lynch’s throat was a bit sore today, and she didn’t want to waste words with Sean Bell.
She shook her head, "No need. I left my medicine at the office, I’ll take it when I return."
Knowing she hadn’t eaten yet, Silas Cheney directly took her to the Cheney Family’s place for lunch, then sent her back to the office.
Downstairs at the office, Silas handed her the medicine.
"Third brother gave this to you, said it’s more effective than your other meds, remember to take it on time."
Thea Lynch acknowledged with a sound, "Where is he?"
During their phone call, Ian Preston was supposed to be at the compound.
"He had an urgent matter back at the office." Silas didn’t elaborate, "He left not long ago, and then you arrived."
After he finished speaking, Thea Lynch didn’t respond for a while and didn’t show any intention of getting out of the car. Silas raised an eyebrow, signaling her to speak if she had something to say, "Is it like this with me too? Nothing you can’t say."
After a long pause, Thea Lynch sighed deeply and asked, "Did third brother and Sean Bell get into a fight?"
"Ha." Silas laughed, his shoulders trembling a bit, "Could they not fight? Sean Bell really has a knack for angering people; I almost couldn’t resist giving him a slap."
"It’s nothing serious, just a kick. You see, that kid is still bouncing around, he’s not dying."
"No matter what, he’s a younger brother. Third brother just wanted to teach him a lesson, wouldn’t go all out."
Silas had a way with words, yet Thea Lynch didn’t believe a single one, "With what you said, I fear even you wouldn’t believe it."
Silas: "..."
He rubbed the tip of his nose awkwardly and didn’t say anything further.
"Keep an eye on Sean Bell, don’t let him really get beaten to death."
Said Thea Lynch, as she withdrew her gaze and pushed the door open to get out of the car.
——
That afternoon, Thea Lynch received a call from her aunt.
"So, he was fine when he left me. On his way back, he collided with fifth brother."
"Fourth brother already went to check, I heard there wasn’t much to worry about."
Hearing it involved Sean Bell, her aunt suddenly fell silent.
Everyone outside knew Sean Bell’s temperament, let alone those in the compound.
Thea Lynch pursed her lips, trying to defend him, "It was just an accident. They have no grudges, why would fifth brother find trouble with him?"
"True." Her aunt sighed in relief, "And don’t think aunt sees Sean Bell too badly. It’s just that sometimes this kid is really unpredictable, always hard to understand his intentions."
This description was already quite tactful. Thea Lynch smiled silently, "It’s okay, it was just chance this time. He’s planning to visit Norbert Rhodes with fourth brother tonight. But, I’m not going."
After hanging up, Thea Lynch finished her work and took a nap.
When she woke up, it was because Foreman Chandler called her.
She took out her phone to check the time; she had slept for two hours.
"Foreman Chandler, what’s up?" Thea Lynch asked with sleepy eyes, looking across.
Foreman Chandler pointed to her face, "Your face looks quite red, are you running a fever?"
"..." Thea Lynch suspiciously touched her cheek, then switched hands to check the temperature on her forehead.
It was a bit unusually hot.
Seeing her eyes weren’t quite right, Foreman Chandler handed her an electronic thermometer, "Quick, quick, measure it. I feel like you have a fever."
"Okay."
A few minutes later, looking at the numbers on the thermometer, she frowned.
Foreman Chandler leaned over to take a look, and exclaimed, "I’ll take you to the hospital; don’t drag it out."
"No worries, I’ll leave work early and go myself, it’s not far." There was a hospital near their company, just getting an IV drip would do.
Thea Lynch leaving work early was really rare; as soon as she left, the receptionist immediately reported it to the President’s office. She had hardly left when Silas Cheney got the news and called the Research and Development department.
"Foreman Lynch, she has a fever and went next door to the hospital to get an IV drip. Mmm, just left."
"Seems she has a temperature up to thirty-nine degrees, she went by herself."
Foreman Chandler reported everything truthfully.
——
After stepping out of the company doors, Thea Lynch regretted it.
She really didn’t want to get an IV drip.
Electronic thermometers could be inaccurate sometimes; just taking some fever medicine would be enough, as long as the fever subsided by nighttime, there was no need to go to the hospital.
Probably knowing her thoughts, just when she was about to order some fever medicine for delivery, her phone suddenly vibrated, the delivery app’s page turning into a call interface.
The word "third brother" displayed prominently.
Thea Lynch thought she was seeing things, and after a couple of seconds of dull reaction, she pressed answer.
"Third brother." Perhaps due to the cold, her voice sounded soft and weak, unlike her usual indifferent tone, almost like she was whining.
On the other end, Ian Preston was clearly taken aback hearing her voice.
"Silas said you have a fever."
"Oh, yes. A bit."
"Head to the hospital now, I’ll come find you."
Thea Lynch glanced toward the hospital’s direction, the big red letters were particularly striking in the night sky. She hesitated, "No, it’s alright."
Rarely, Ian Preston didn’t insist. Rather, he agreed, "That’s fine, head home now. Fifteen minutes, I’ll bring a doctor to your apartment."
Thea Lynch: "..."
When Ian Preston said fifteen minutes, it was indeed fifteen minutes, as if he arrived right on the minute.
However, when he arrived, Thea Lynch was asleep in the bedroom and didn’t hear the doorbell.
He glanced down at the keypad, waited for two minutes, and when nobody came to open the door, he relied on memory to press those numbers.
Thea Lynch’s password was interesting, not someone’s birthday, nor a special date—it’s the first six digits of pi.
She had used this password for many years, most of her account passwords were this, and a very few others were pi digits seven to twelve.
The living room lights were off.
Ian Preston looked around to find the light switch.
This apartment he bought, he never actually lived in.
Whether it was the design style or the layout, it was all done to fit Thea Lynch’s aesthetic preferences.
Therefore, the style was somewhat cozier than his own place, the colors weren’t as monotonous. But it wasn’t deliberately made to suit a girl’s taste, generally it was a neutral style.
The living room was empty, and the direction toward the bathroom was also dark.
Ian Preston instructed the family doctor to stand in the living room while he headed toward the master bedroom.
The master bedroom door was ajar, Ian Preston knocked symbolically on the door panel before pushing it open when no response came.
