Chapter 172: Chapter 172: Don’t Go!

It’s snowing outside again.

Tiana Linden and Daisy have been on this unknown island for more than half a month now.

During these weeks, snow has intermittently fallen on the island.

The snow outside is even thicker than when they arrived. Taking a step outside, it reaches up to the knees.

When Daisy got back from school today, her hat and clothes were covered in snowflakes, and she seemed as though she’d been chilled inside a freezer.

Her little hands and cheeks were all icy cold.

Once Daisy finished writing down what was on the paper, Tiana warmed her daughter’s little hands in her palm.

The heater was on inside, and after a while, her daughter’s hands finally warmed up.

Tiana gazed out at the snowy scenery.

Thick flakes burdened the branches, and with the wind, they trembled and fell into the vast white ground.

The view, near and far, was covered in the vast expanse of snow.

It’s as if they were in a fairy tale world.

Years ago, Tiana had yearned to visit a place covered in snow for a long vacation.

Then, with her beloved, walking hand in hand under the heavy snowfall, walking, just walking.

Walking on, until they grow old together.

But at this very moment, her thoughts were only of Hector Chaucer, far away in Veridia.

How wonderful it would be if Hector Chaucer were here at her side now?

He could join her and Daisy to build snowmen in the snow.

The man she hoped to one day grow old with, walking hand in hand, was no longer Aiden Grant.

Holding Daisy’s just-warmed little hands, her face looked troubled.

Daisy also worried, "Mommy, are we going to be trapped on this island forever? I miss Daddy so much."

Tiana touched Daisy’s cheek and, with furrowed brows relaxed, reassured her, "We’ll definitely find a way to reunite with Daddy back home."

But she didn’t know which country’s island this was.

Every servant on the island had skin lighter than Africans but darker than Caucasians, not of the Asian kind, making it impossible to discern which country they belonged to.

They spoke in a rare dialect.

Tiana couldn’t understand a word of it.

Since they’d arrived more than half a month ago, apart from Daisy being able to attend school, she felt utterly isolated, deprived of any chance to venture beyond the castle walls.

Every day was spent with bodyguards and servants watching her.

Another week passed like this.

During this week, Aiden Grant fell terribly ill.

Because Tiana threw away the ceramic doll Aiden Grant had repaired for the third time, he charged into the snowstorm dressed only in a thin shirt, searching for the doll.

Ignoring the storm, he drove alone to the town dump, searching for a long time.

In the freezing world, he lingered for three to four hours wearing only a thin shirt.

He didn’t return until midnight.

This chill penetrated his bones, leading to a severe cold and a fever reaching 42 degrees.

The island’s ambulance arrived three times in all.

This marked the ambulance’s third entry into the castle.

Tiana watched the ambulance from afar, observing each medical personnel disembarking the vehicle.

Suddenly, a tall, slim, yellow-skinned male doctor with glasses and a white coat under a long black down jacket jumped out of the ambulance, hurrying into the grand castle hallway and quickly upstairs to Aiden Grant’s door.

Tiana’s gaze followed him continuously.

Even when he was out of sight, she was still staring in that direction, furrowing her brows in thought.

Could the yellow-skinned doctor speak Chinese?

Although he was one of the islanders and Aiden Grant had likely paid handsomely to handle matters, if she could bribe him with money, would he help contact Hector Chaucer back home?

She dared not take this risk.

Aiden Grant was already watching her like a criminal; any further risk-taking would make him more wary.

But she desperately wanted to leave this dreadful place and return to Veridia to reunite with Hector Chaucer soon.

Ultimately, she decided to take a risk.

She placed her written note into her bag, using the pretext of "visiting" Aiden Grant to carry it inside stealthily.

Aiden Grant’s fever of forty-two degrees persisted without abating.

He remained in a state between semi-consciousness and semi-alertness.

"Mr. Grant, should we go to the hospital together in the ambulance?"

The yellow-skinned doctor with black-rimmed glasses spoke with him in Chinese?

Tiana was truly thrilled!

How wonderful.

After over twenty days on the island, she finally found someone who spoke Chinese.

Aiden Grant, faintly conscious, waved his hand, "Administer some intravenous fluids, ceftriaxone, with dexamethasone."

He had studied medicine himself.

Despite his condition, he could still clearly name the infusion, proving his mind was still alert.

Tiana cautiously clutched the note in her coat pocket.

Listening to Aiden Grant’s weak voice, she felt no pity; he deserved it.

But she feigned concern, approaching the bed, "You’re terribly sick, Aiden Grant."

Aiden Grant struggled to lift his tired eyelids, seeing Tiana finally without a furrowed brow, assuming it was an illusion.

Upon realizing it was Tiana, his weary, sickly eyes showed a trace of grateful smile, "Are you worried about me?"

Despite feigning concern, Tiana couldn’t bring herself to express care for him; his life mattered nothing to her anymore.

Watching him so gravely ill, her heart felt not a ripple.

Caring and concern seemed impossible.

Yet, he was still Daisy’s father, she hoped he wouldn’t just perish.

She approached and wiped his forehead.

Frighteningly hot.

It must have reached above forty degrees.

No wonder Aiden Grant felt so feeble, like a frost-nipped eggplant, entirely wilted.

Her hand on Aiden Grant’s forehead was about to withdraw.

Suddenly, a burning large hand tightly gripped it.

Instinctively, she tried to pull her hand away, but Aiden Grant held it even tighter.

The scorching touch of his hand made Tiana tense all over.

Once, she had loved this man’s warm hands, now they repelled her.

"Don’t leave me, Tiana!"

Aiden Grant drew her hand to his cheek, pressing it close.

Feeling the softness of her palm, tears slid coolly from his eyes, "Tiana, how can you forgive me?"

"You’re feverish; there’s danger if it doesn’t come down," Tiana feigned to comfort him, "Give me a moment, let me see what the doctor brought, I’ll personally administer the medicine."

She tried to withdraw, but the man’s eyes pleaded, "Don’t leave me."

She maintained the pretense of comfort, "If you don’t let me administer the medicine, I won’t care about you. We’ll talk once you’re better."

Only then did the man, like a child, release his grip.

She deliberately approached the yellow-skinned, Chinese-speaking male doctor, pretending to inspect the medicine he brought.

The medicine names were in languages she didn’t understand; she conversed with the doctor in Chinese, confirming it was fever medicine and thanked him.

She continued, "I studied medicine too; I’ll handle the administration. Please pass that to me."

As the male doctor passed her the disposable needle, she discreetly slipped the note she had clenched tightly into his palm.

The black-rimmed glasses doctor sensed something in his palm, glancing at her.

She gave a pleading look.

The male doctor met her gaze, and after two seconds, he tucked the slip of paper into his pocket.

He didn’t expose her on the spot, allowing Tiana Linden to finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Then, she returned to the bedside and began setting up the IV stand for Aiden Grant.

About half an hour later, Tiana stood by Aiden’s window, watching the ambulance wheels slowly drive away in the snow.

She placed all her hope on that male doctor.

He was her only link to the outside world.

Outside, the snow continued to fall ceaselessly.

Thickly settling on the branches outside the window, it felt like it weighed heavily on Tiana’s heart, making her feel oppressed.

Suddely, there was a scorching sensation at her waist.

Enveloped by his arms, he trapped her in his embrace, his hot breath reaching her ear, "Tiana, let me hold you properly."

Tiana’s whole body tensed tightly, instinctively wanting to struggle, but the man pleaded by her ear, "Tiana, please don’t push me away, let me hold you properly, can you?"

The pleading voice left Tiana without the slightest sympathy.

But she had just feigned concern for him; until she received help from that male doctor, she couldn’t reveal any flaws.

Reluctantly, she coaxed, "Your blood is returning, quickly lie back on the bed."

A long IV tube was tightly stretched between the support stand on top of the bed and the back of his hand.

She pulled him to the bedside, preventing it from being snapped forcefully.

Seeing the blood returning at his infusion site, she sat down and helped him address it.

Seemingly attentive, she was actually pondering whether that male doctor would really help her.

Aiden lifted his heavy eyelids, gazing at her with deep affection, "Tiana, you actually care about me, don’t you?"

Tiana didn’t respond directly, but after tending to him, she covered his hand back under the blanket, "You need to rest well."

"Don’t leave."

"I’m not leaving, I’m right here."

The man somehow fell asleep, allowing Tiana to finally withdraw her hand from his palm.

The ambulance might have left, but it left behind two medical staff.

Tiana made gestures with them for quite a while, unable to communicate, until Jesse stepped forward, "Madam, you should rest, leave this to me and the two medical staff."

Jesse was the blue-eyed foreigner who took Daisy and Laura away with Aiden that day.

Aiden paid a high price to hire him, and he signed a life-and-death agreement with him.

This was the man who watched every move of Tiana and Daisy daily.

He could speak Chinese.

Facing Jesse’s blue eyes, Tiana felt a bit guilty.

She wondered if Jesse had seen her slip the note to the yellow-skinned male doctor.

She got up and nodded, "Please take good care of Aiden."

Daisy went to kindergarten.

Alone in the castle, she felt stifled and bored.

Aiden, despite being ill, knew she liked flower arranging and had various flowers sent to her.

She arranged flowers for a while, feeling suffocated.

Putting on a thick coat, hat, and scarf, she went outside into the snowy land to catch her breath.

Behind her, Jesse with blue eyes and several other bodyguards followed her.

Breathing the chill, clear air, fresh as it was, she felt her chest constricted.

She squatted down and began building a snowman alone.

As if Hector Chaucer was accompanying her.

While building, she reminisced about the moments shared with Hector Chaucer.

Looking back in detail, she realized Hector had liked her long ago.

No wonder every time she was with Aiden, Hector’s face darkened upon seeing them.

Whenever they invited Hector to join them, he would coldly decline and leave.

Back then, Tiana thought Hector didn’t like speaking and preferred silence, avoiding the rowdy games with them.

It turned out Hector was filled with jealousy.

Hector’s entire youth must have been as sour as a lemon tree.

That wordless crush spanning twenty years finally bore fruit, only for her to suddenly vanish from his world.

How anxious Hector must have been.

Suddenly stopping while building the snowman, Tiana began tracing Hector Chaucer’s name in the snow, stroke by stroke.

With each stroke, her heart ached as if cut by a blade.

Such a solitary and forlorn Hector had never truly been loved or cherished by anyone.

He almost devoted his life silently guarding her.

She so wished to return to Hector’s side, wanting to protect him the way he had protected her.

Behind her, a crunching sound.

Someone was walking with heavy steps in the snow towards her.

Tiana hadn’t reacted yet when a pair of black leather boots appeared before her.

Bright red blood dripped onto the black leather boots.

And onto the pristine white snow.

Raising her head, she saw Aiden standing before her, having ripped out his infusion needle.

Tiana instinctively wiped away Hector’s name in the snow, hastily standing up.

As if caught doing something guilty.

"Aiden, why aren’t you lying in bed receiving your infusion?"

In the icy snowy landscape, white mist floated in front of Aiden.

His stern and angry features made Tiana feel more guilty and scared.

Aiden didn’t respond to her.

A slip of paper was flung before her, landing in the snow.

Tiana glanced down.

Seeing the familiar handwriting, her heart suddenly felt dead.

She picked up the slip.

It was the note she wrote to the yellow-skinned, Chinese-speaking male doctor.

It read:

Doctor, can you help me?

My daughter and I are being held captive by Aiden Grant on this island.

If you can contact Hector Chaucer of Chaucer Pharmaceuticals in Veridia, and tell him my daughter and I are here, I can offer you ten billion US dollars as a reward.

Ten billion US dollars, equivalent to the entire inheritance she received from Wanda Townsend.

When Daniel Linden and James Linden willingly handed over the money, Aiden personally inspected it.

She was willing to exhaust all her assets just to leave him.

The yellow-skinned, Chinese-speaking doctor was indeed tempted.

Ten billion US dollars, who wouldn’t be tempted?

Only for Jesse beside Aiden to notice and expose the doctor on the spot.

"Ten billion US dollars—the entirety of the inheritance Aunt Townsend left you. You so desperately wish to return to Hector’s side?"

Yes.

Tiana didn’t want to spend even a moment longer on this island.

Since Aiden had discovered, she wouldn’t pretend anymore.

Watching Aiden’s hand, the blood flowed.

Fresh blood dripped from the back of his hand onto the snow, resembling the sorrow of a cuckoo crying blood, and yet Tiana felt no pity.

Her face turned cold, "Yes, I don’t want to spend even a minute or second more with you."
