Chapter 31: A New Goal(1)

“Well, it definitely won’t be long for you to go to the next realm and possibly go back to your own world to get your revenge.”

“Yeah... With this kind of strength, I will definitely get my revenge if I was given the chance to.” Blake replied with an apathetic look on his face.

Noticing Blake’s expression, Vera curiously asked,

“You didn’t seem to care about your revenge so much, why is it? Did you already forget about the feelings that tied you down before?”

Blake shook his head. “No, I still remembered how they used to purposely find problems with me with every little chance that they got, and I could still vividly recall how they kicked and punched me to vent their frustration and their own inferiorities. It was laughable thinking that they would actually make themselves feel better by putting someone else under their feet.”

“So, why didn’t you seem like you cared about them at all?” Vera tilted her head in confusion.

She didn’t understand how Blake could think like that. If she were in his shoes, she would have made sure that the legs that stepped on her would be filled with countless holes from the darkness tendrils while the rest of their bodies would be separated and scrambled everywhere, throwing them through different spaces using her space elemental spells. But hearing Blake’s answer, Vera wondered how he was able to just take them all lying down.

.....

“No, it’s not like I didn’t care about it. It’s more like I already had a different view about them,” Blake said, which made Vera wonder what he meant by saying that. But then he continued, “I just learned from a certain gorilla somewhere that spending time on something so weak is just wasteful.”

“I used to hate them with every fiber of my being, especially the last one since he had almost killed me just because he was trying to mess around with me. And I hoped with every little faith that I have remaining so that I could somehow get my own strength to get my revenge on them. But now that I actually learned how to cast spells with the nether, and eating souls made me stronger, I don’t think they were worth much from the start.”

“With my current strength, I am quite confident that even if all the people that bullied me in this whole decade were grouped up together and they were all told to go after the current me, I will definitely not lose against them.”

“If I spent all of my focus and attention on getting revenge on such weak people, I don’t think it would be a good end goal for me.”

“It was definitely a refreshing feeling changing my mindset about them, but then it made me realize that I was practically aimless right now, and even if returned back to my world, I don’t know what I really wanted there,” Blake said while his eyes wandered onto the dimly lit ceiling, imagining himself casting a few demonic spells to put tens of holes in his bullies’ bodies and ending their lives in seconds.

Blake then looked back at Vera, expecting that she wasn’t too interested in his story and preferred that he talk more about his spells or anything else unrelated to his life story, but unexpectedly, Vera was putting her focus on him and listened closely to his story as if it mattered to her.

Blake was slightly surprised by this, but he was certainly happy that someone else was listening to his rant. He rarely told anyone about his naked, unfiltered thoughts, including Amy since he didn’t want to make the little girl worry about him. And he didn’t know what was different from Vera, but he could feel himself relying on her and he didn’t need to pretend about anything or filter his thoughts when he talked with her.

So he asked, “Do you want to hear the full story?”

“Sure,” Vera replied instantly while still looking at him.

He didn’t expect such a quick answer from her, which made him a little bit more convinced to share all of his thoughts that had burdened him for so long.

“So... let’s start from the fact that I was a human...”

Vera was ready to hear Blake’s full story, but she definitely wasn’t ready when she heard the first sentence that came out of Blake’s mouth.

She wanted to bombard him with questions, but she held herself back and let Blake continue his story first before deciding to say anything, which made Blake feel very comfortable sharing the untold stories that he kept in his heart before.

He told her about how the human society worked, about the mana that came to his world only a few years earlier before he was born, and how people who weren’t able to use mana were treated by the society including himself.

He then continued his story and told her about the photographic memory that he had ever since he gained his own consciousness as a few months old baby that was dropped off at an orphanage. Then he told her about when he was still hopeful that he would awaken the ability to use mana when other kids had already awakened theirs before telling her that he eventually gave up and just thought of being able to use mana as only his wishful thinking.

Next, he told her about the bullying that started early in grade school where the kids had their magical abilities measured and rumors about him being a dud were spreading all over the school. At first, the bullying wasn’t severe as the kids still weren’t aware of the difference between each other.

But as they began to realize the segregation and the difference between each other, and learned the fact that the ones that had higher magical ability would most likely have a better future than the others, the partition between the students became even more apparent and the bullying had gradually become bolder and bolder. And Blake was one of those kids who had received the worst kind since he was a complete dud with literally zero magical capabilities.

Blake breezed through his school days where everything was pretty much the same, where he was praised for his photographic memory and a good head to use it, only to be beaten up later by the bullies for ‘showing off’ despite being a dud.

He also mentioned about the little sister that he had in his orphanage and how she was very nice to him despite him being a dud and if he were to bring anyone with him back to the demon realm, it would be her.

And lastly, he went to his last memory about how he ended up in the demon realm after almost being killed by his high school bully. Blake still kept the existence of the system a secret since he didn’t even know what it was, and only told her that he was magically transported to the demon realm and found himself in his current body. ƒ𝑟𝙚e𝔀𝗲𝒃n𝒐𝘷𝗲Ɩ.c𝗼𝚖

Blake spend about 30 minutes telling his story in great detail, which was considered quite a long time for someone who was talking about himself, but seeing Vera still listened to his every word and paid attention to him despite the topic being all about himself made him adore the demoness even more, more than just simply admiring her otherworldly beauty.

After Blake finished his story, Vera stayed silent for quite a while before speaking,

“When the circumstances were like that, I could somehow understand that those bullies didn’t really matter a lot, they weren’t the source of the problem, and it’s true that setting them as your end goal would be humiliating for your level of talent...” She said while looking down at the ground as if she was still thinking about something.

Blake nodded his head in confirmation as he also agreed with her thinking. Despite the scars and wounds they had inflicted upon him, Blake knew that if he were really given the chance to go back to earth with his current strength, he could just get his revenge whenever he wanted.

And after a few seconds, she continued, “Since the source of the problem was the world itself, why don’t you make conquering that world as your current goal?”
