Alex and Adoff appeared once more inside the inn’s 101st room.

"Well done, Adoff."

"What more can you expect? I’m D-Rank now."

"Whatever you say, oh great alpha beast." Alex sighed, "Anyways, let’s get out of here, I can use some sleep for the day after doing quests this entire time."

"Agreed," Adoff added.

After, Alex calmly commanded Adoff to go back into hiding, within the system’s interface.

One week had passed since Alex obtained the [Shadow Bat Egg] and completed his first ever [Quest].

During that time, he took on all kinds of quests, some more meaningful than others. Many came from civilians on the outskirts of BeastFall’s poorer districts, simple requests that barely challenged him. In truth, they were almost too easy. But they served their purpose. They filled the silence between his growth, a way to pass the time while he continued his ascent.

Without telling Cassie, he would sometimes bring her along on those missions. Simple tasks, like helping a civilian find a lost beast, grew into something more over time. With each outing, their bond grew stronger, and he found himself connecting with her in ways he had not expected.

Though he also went into many dungeons after Alex locked himself in his own room. Continuously seeking growth daily, defeating beasts on his level, or lower, and some even higher, but coming out on top every single time.

Alex managed not to bring his [Demonic Energy] into the negatives during this last week, which was a very good sign.

Once he unlocked one of Adoff’s evolutionary pathways, he abused it, minute after minute, nonstop.

Adoff, since then, hasn’t gained another form, but has had the same appearance he had since becoming [E-Rank]. As long as Alex could shrink him, he didn’t care, not at all.

Ever since unlocking the [IronFang] evolutionary pathway, Alex’s Demonic Energy has now been interconnected with Adoff. Meaning, every skill Adoff proceeds to use will take off [Demonic Energy] reserves that Alex has stored.

On the bright side, however...

He wasn’t going to run out of it anytime soon.

And it wasn’t simply his and Adoff’s Demonic Energy that were intertwined, but it was also their gained Experience points. Every time Alex gains a certain amount of experience, it’s doubled and then split evenly between Alex and Adoff.

Whilst Alex continues to grow, so does Adoff. And this has been the same ever since the day they joined forces.

The best part of all these factors was that the more Alex progresses, the more effective his skills will be. Meaning, no skills of his will ever be left behind as long as he continues to grow.

During this time, he kept a low profile, hidden from the rest, including the individual he caught spying on Cassie.

That same individual was sent by the Church’s Hierarchy after both of them applied for the academy’s trial.

And today, Alex decided to confront him by himself, not with Adoff. Thus, he made Adoff disappear back into his original hibernation interface space for just this moment.

It was dark outside. "Victor, watch and learn."

"Learn what?" Victor asked, curious.

"How to tame a human."

It wasn’t a prank; Alex was serious today. He wanted to bring that spy under his authority so he could work as a two-faced agent.

Alex kept just the item for that in his inventory. Hour after hour, day after day, refresh after refresh, he finally received something of use to confront him.

Alex walked outside in the night, alone. Cassie and her mother were asleep, the only other guests staying at the inn alongside him. Nobody noticed him leave, or so he had hoped.

The weather wasn’t bad as he continued to move.

Then, in that moment, Alex sneered, sensing someone’s presence around.

"Smell."

Everything started coming back to his scent, and that’s when he smelt an inflation in mana capacity levels.

That man, he sensed, was on top of the roof of the inn. And he felt him, looking straight down at Alex.

Then, Alex looked towards the moonlit sky.

"There are people in this world who are cruel without a doubt, who torture just for fun’s sake, who live because they are forced to grow a legacy."

Alex whispered aloud. He put a hand in the air. The individual on the roof, hiding his presence, was weirded out by Alex’s actions.

the man who was staring down at Alex just a moment ago, was now looked down upon by that same man, from behind, as he stood firm on the roof.

Alex continued "Who think they play in the shadows, when they’re weak."

The cloaked individual, creepily stalking Cassie, looked behind, standing up, "I summon the...!"

Alex chuckled, "It’s too late." He put both his hands out, locking onto the fully blacked out individual in front of him, "[Mind Control]."
