Demon Tamer's Ascension-Chapter 5: A New Acquaintance

A beautiful lady paused upon looking at Alex’s harsh condition, "Please come on in, we’ll get some food and a bed ready for you."

Alex smiled gently, "Thank you very much."

When Alex entered, she slammed the door behind him rapidly. The inside felt warm and elegant, it had a cosy fireplace just beside the cooking area at the front, stairs to the left of the building, and modern wood was implanted all over the roof and walls.

"Please take a seat." The woman stated, "Name’s Cassie Park, I’ll be serving you today."

"Nice to meet you, Cassie, name’s Alex." He walked towards a seat, placing the wolf he had just received onto the table.

Except for some special structures, like whatever they were using inside the kitchen at the back, all the items they worked with were made of wood.

"Mom!" The women who brought in Alex yelled out anxiously, "An order for two! One pup and one gentleman!"

"Coming right up, honey!" A voice called out from the back; it came through the small air hole separating the kitchen and the main seating area.

Alex waited in his seat. He had his elbow on the table, propping up his chin.

Cassie went to take a seat right across from him, as she started petting the baby grey wolf’s fur. Her glare leaned closely towards Alex as he leaned onto the backrest.

"How old are you?" She asked, "I’m eighteen, but you look quite, I don’t really know how to explain it."

"I’m eighteen as well," her shocked face told Alex all he needed to know, ’I’m that ugly?’

"Oh, you look pretty young." Cassie clapped back, "Was this the beast you awakened?"

Alex looked at the pup, knowing that he had just killed the mother of it, and sighed.

"No, it’s not," Alex stated, staring at Cassie’s large breasts.

She leaned over the edge of the table, "Oh! So what is it?"

"Introduce her to the most manly guy here." Victor’s voice rang through Alex’s head.

Alex scratched the right side of his eye, "Uhhhhh, yeah, my beast is tired right now."

"Huh! You liar! Introduce me at once! I am Victor Kane, brother of Alex Thorn." Victor complained continuously until he stopped to catch his breath, knowing these efforts were useless.

"Oh, for real?" Cassie wondered out loud, "Well, here is my little cute thing."

Cassie stood up from her seat, her cheap blue-and-white leather dress clung tightly around her. Cassie’s blonde hair brushed down just below her chest, and her green eyes sparkled as though she came straight out of a Fairy Tale.

"The Great Alpha Deity, I summon the..." She opened her palms wide, closing her eyes tightly, "A creature of my will, my contract, my desires, come out, Luna."

And just then, white sparkles came out from her palms, flowing down to the cabin floor as a white magic circle shaped beneath her feet.

"My oh so cute Luna, uhhhhh." Cassie cutely called out as she rushed to pet the contracted beast that shaped before her.

"You gave her a name as well?" Alex called out, "Cool."

Cassie rubbed her animal’s fur, which was a white fox, onto her right cheek, forgetting about Alex entirely.

"Brother," Victor’s voice rang through Alex’s mind, as he warmly watched Cassie, "what is the ’Alpha Deity?’

"Well," Alex tapped his index finger on the table, "Each beast requires a summoning, and every creature has their regarded Deities like Gods. For wolves, it’s the Alpha Deity, but for Dragons, it would be the Celestial Dragon Deity."

Alex tucked his chair in, then continued, "So after every move or so, they have to call out the names of their given ’Deity.’ With some exceptions, of course, but only the top 5%."

"I see," Victor snapped back.

Cassie then picked up her fox and rushed over to Alex, "Look at her! Isn’t she just adorable?! A C-Rank too, so I’ll be able to make some money and help support my family going full-time on Beast-Taming!"

Even when you awaken beasts, usually Beast-Tamers who are F-Rank, E-Rank, or D-Rank will still have to find part-time jobs on the side to even out their taxes for the month. Think about it like any other contract; once you earn one, that’s a respectable occurrence.

But all that truly means is, ’Now we gave you an opportunity to monetise your work, fetch some money yourself.’

This world, by any means, had never once been fair since the age of Beast-Tamers arrived.

Alex stared at her white fox, preparing to pet it, but for some reason, it let out a growling hiss back at him, swiping its claws left and right.

"What’s wrong, Luna?" Cassie took her contracted beast away, "Sorry about that, I think something made her mad, your food’s probably ready by now, I’ll go ahead and get it."

Alex stared back at her, "She’s truly a beauty and a half." He whispered, shaking his head, knowing he would never get a chance.

"Don’t even try it," Victor said, "you’ll never have a chance with her."

"You’re talking? You’re a Demon, stick with your own kind." Alex snapped back, letting off an evil laugh.

"Fair enough," Victor let in, "Oh, here she comes again."

This time, Cassie banged through the wooden door at the back, the one separating the kitchen and the main visiting area. She came out with one large platter of food, all arranged neatly on a long serving board.

She slammed it onto the table Alex sat on, "Here you go," Cassie announced, "Two servings of hunter’s stew with warm bread."

Hunter’s stew is made by slow-cooking whatever meat hunters bring in. Afterwards, it’s purchased by the street vendors to sell, commonly only in restaurants. It can include any type of meat. The only condition is that it has to suit the richness of the soup.

Both Alex and the pup received Deer meat with potatoes and carrots, mixed with Garclic and wild herbs.

It had a thick broth, slightly spicy. It simmered for quite a while until the meat fell apart and the broth became dark and savoury.

The warm bread was a thick loaf or round roll, baked the same day. It’s crusty on the outside and soft inside, perfect for soaking up stew.

The steam had risen off the bowl as she placed it down. Alex was given wooden utensils to eat with.
