Descending Into A Novel-Chapter 102:Regressor Knowledge
Raymond grabbed his chest. Feeling the sweat pour out of his body and fall to the hard floor. Gasping for air as he lay on the ground.
Letting out a raspy breath, he clutched his left hand. Fiddling around for a while before finally managing to toss away the ring on his left pinky. A hoarse scream coming out of his mouth as he did so.
Raymond gritted his teeth, his entire body spasming and shaking on the floor. The painful feeling that came from releasing the morph spell had decreased massively, since the change required had decreased. He had already mentally prepared himself but still!
Staring at the roof, he mentally added it to his list to create or find a morph spell that didn’t hurt like hell.
Ellen leaned over him, eyes shaking with worry as she asked. "Do you always have to do this whenever you disguise?"
"If I want a good disguise, then yeah."
"Does it still hurt?"
"Not as much, but my whole body feels sore right now."
Just one more year, then Raymond could fully ditch his disguise once and for all!
It wasn’t as important, but he would also be taller then Ellen as well once he did! Previously she had been only slightly taller then him. Now, they were about equal in height. Meaning that next year, he would be taller then her!
"Can you cast a healing spell or drink a potion to reduce the pain?"
"It’s not really an injury. Besides, healing spells can be dangerous if used wrongly. I have a better option that I unfortunately cannot use right now. "
"Which is?"
"Rewinding time on my body. Leagues better then any healing spell."
At some point in their conversation, she had sat down cross-legged next to him. Resting her face on her palm as she looked down at him.
His current appearance was really something. If she took a picture right now and posted it on her social media, it might have received a couple extra thousand likes as well as a hundred more comments. All her pictures with Raymond strangely seemed to be more popular then her own...
"I almost forgot what you look like, how can there be such a difference in only one year?"
Seriously, if the previous Raymond was good looking. The current Raymond was drop dead gorgeous. Ellen herself felt envious of his fair skin, his well-defined face, his soft moist lips...
"I looked quite different when I first turned seventeen. But when I became the Perfect Human, I regressed back to this age and got upgraded."
"What kind of Perfect Human can barely run a mile in two minutes?"
"I’m a mage, if you compare me to other mages. I am remarkably fit."
"You’re still weaker then me though."
He only responded with a half-hearted glare. Rolling over slightly as he picked up a new gold ring he had prepared, a small needle appearing in his other hand.
"It’s a shame we can’t go get Sweet Lies right now, then you wouldn’t need to create these rings each time."
He answered her with a small mutter, "Well maybe if a certain regressor used their future knowledge better we would have it. "
Ellen replied dryly, "You want me to go fight a C-rank when I haven’t even formed my own core?"
Despite being a regressor, Ellen really couldn’t do much with her knowledge.
Valuable resources that could boost her strength? All within secret realms or guarded by powerful monsters. Secret artifacts or weapons that were actually amazing but had been sealed. Awakened who would soon become prominent figures.
What use was there in knowing something valuable existed when she didn’t have the strength to go get it? The best she could do was invest in a few stocks, train harder and avoid any past mistakes. She also wanted those things as well damnit!
Even if she knew things like the location of Xanther’s personal garden, or the inheritance left behind by the party of heroes, or the fact that the Golden Dawn Ring had a secret function that massively boosted mana absorption. Or the fact that current thirty four year old Denver would soon manage to become humanity’s next SS-rank. What could she do?
It was like having a juicy apple just dangling from a tree, right out of grasp. Now matter how hard she jumped or tiptoed, she couldn’t even graze it with her fingers.
There were still a few stuff she could make use of at least. During their field trip last year, she had snagged herself a grade 5 mana ore that massively helped her mana cultivation. She had used her points to snag an item from the academy that was secretly much more valuable then presumed, and recently visited an individual soon to be known as Red Ghost to make him owe her a favor.
The upcoming mission as well was crucial, since a SS-rank threat that destroyed two entire cities alone was currently being experimented in a lab the mission was taking place in.
Previously, they had been unaware of this. Simply finishing the mission and leaving the city, only for it to massively bite them in the neck about a decade later. With millions of casualties and billions in damages.
But she had already resolved to save the world. If she didn’t stop this, then there was no point in her regressing. Ellen might as well snap her bow and arrows in half, she might not have been the most memorable hero—but she was still a hero!
Ellen suddenly deflated, even in the previous timeline. Despite being a hero and an SS-rank, she had always been pushed to the sidelines. Compared to Zachary, who was the first to reach the SSS-rank since Casper and Viviana. Or Noelle who would go on to inherit the position of guild leader at the Astranova Guild —the number one guild ran by the Asteria Family. Lin Qingyi, who could singlehandedly defeat most city-destroying threats solo.
Even though Ellen could be considered just as, if not stronger then them. Her position as an archer made it so that she never received as much attention as the others.
Well...she didn’t need it. But it did feel quite disheartening that her hard work wasn’t fully recognized.

Raymond fidgeted around with the pen in his fingers. Spinning it around his thumb as he pondered on how to best explain his time magic.
He already knew the uproar that would have been caused by his discovery of dimension and time-attunement. But that was only step one, be still had to ’create’ spells for the time magic discipline if he wanted to use his magic in public. However, while most awakened could barely accept his discovery. Creating new spells for an entirely new magic discipline was too far.
’Hmm...I really should have thought about it before doing such a thing.’
Raymond sighed, cursing the past Raymond as his own laziness was now coming back to haunt him. Past Raymond must have had a few screws loose, impulsively deciding to share such a fundamental piece of knowledge just to show off.
It was either stick with ice magic for now, or reveal his time magic which he was much more comfortable with.
Since he couldn’t choose, he just decided to ask Ellen who was scrolling through social media on her phone next to him. "Should I just stick to ice magic?"
"Don’t you have any weak spells that could plausibly be created by you?"
"You think I havent thought about that yet?"
His spells were all tailored for a different more mana-rich environment, being exceptionally better compared to the average spell here in Terra at the cost of requiring more mana. Which unfortunately, also made his spells more complex.
She rolled over, turning to face him."Well then how long until you recover your next circle and it’s more believable then?"
"Maybe another year or so? I could probably speed it up if I keep getting more mana-rich objects though."
"The upcoming mission is really important. What if you just hide it and only reveal it later?"
"I was thinking the same, but one of our instructors is going to be following us, and it would probably attract quite a lot of attention."
Raymond was already considering just forcing his second circle to reactivate. Doing so would break the record by months again. Yet as someone with his potential score, it would still be plausible. Mages at the second circle also were much more trusted, so it would still be an astonishing feat if he created new spells then. But much more believable.
’When will I get my skills back...’
Damn system, still refusing to give him back his skills or his title bonuses. Rewinding time on Terra may have been more difficult then when he did so on Erde but what kind of weakened status lasted so long and took away so much?!
He sighed, clipping the pen onto the notebook and setting it aside on his bedside table. If the due date isnt tomorrow, the do date isn’t today. Despite his list of things to do constantly growing, he hadn’t ticked of any items on it for a while now. Mainly because he was just lazy.
"Ellen. Lets go get ice cream."
She yawned, putting a hand up to cover her mouth as she sluggishly got up. Her long hair flowing down messily.
"You’re paying."
Unfortunately, he already used up the free ice cream from Ellen so he had to pay for their current impromptu self-reward treat this time.
