Chapter 92: 92:More Visitors

"Little brat. Not only do you decide to form two cores, something so dangerous it could have killed you. You also decide to strain your body so hard you went into a coma."

Raymond really wished he could look down at the floor or anywhere right now. But with him still lying down on his bed, he could only look up.

"Give me one good reason I shouldn’t hit you right now."

Because he was a patient still recuperating?

Raymond had already said thanks to his instructor. But she clearly didn’t care.

"Do you even realize how much trouble you caused?"

"I hid your secret of having two cores, and principle Herol fabricated a story of you being injured by demon followers on a secret mission and having only returned in the past week. You understand why he did this right?"

Naturally, someone like Raymond was like a massive piece of candy to demon worshippers/followers/contractors or whatever term you used. With him in a coma, it would be light work to kill him and there would be plenty of takers. Plus, a lot of families would likely use this opportunity to undermine the government.

Telling people he was on a special mission gave off the facade of him still being awake and well. Plus, since the special class students always had an instructor with them on missions (Instructor Juliet was just lazy). So he was protected by someone at the S-rank—or if Instructor Sienna was there, an SS-rank.

A double fake out, hiding the fact that he was in a coma while scaring away any potential assassination attempts.

"Instructor, shouldn’t you be glad that I survived rather then dying? If I die then that’s the real bad ending."

In other words, don’t be so pessimistic. Look to the bright side! It could always get worse!

"You...dammit, why am I the one they assigned to you?"

She muttered that last part under her breath, but Raymond heard it nonetheless.

As an SS-rank. Instructor Sienna had more important things to do. But as the youngest (and weakest, of the SS-ranks, as well as being a mage). She had been assigned as his instructor, when normally it was an S-rank.

"Ahem, instructor. I do feel a bit bad about what I’ve done. But you should know, forming two cores isn’t actually as dangerous as you think it is."

"Kid, the mortality rate when trying to fork two cores is 99.96%. You call that not dangerous?"

"That’s because they’re doing it wrong."

The method from Erde was basically the perfect method to form two cores. If you failed, rather then blowing up or exploding. The two mana streams would just merge and you would only be able to form one attunement instead.

It was so simple many would wonder how they never thought about it before. It sounded easy after all!

Except forming a core was something deeply important. It was the whole foundation of your power. Messing up here meant messing up your future. No one would risk it here.

Besides, it took several centuries for people to even think of the concept of gravity.

Considering humans on Terra had only been exposed to mana for three hundred years—from this year. They were doing pretty good.

With their previous focus on technology like Earth, the two had fused together to form a strange society. Similar to Earth, yet with magic and awakened.

Back to the topic, as Raymond casually explained the Erde method to form two cores. Instructor Sienna’s face changed from a neutral scowl, into a look of deep thought.

"Hmm, this sounds plausible. But it’s going to be hard to test it."

The method unfortunately, required for the individual to have unbelievably amazing multitasking and mana control skills. Even Raymond struggled when forming his.

"I know, but as a side note instructor. If you plan on spreading this method. Can you please not credit me? Just say that you thought of it."

"Don’t want to draw too much attention to yourself? You’re already too far gone to do something like that."

"It’s too suspicious if I find a method to do so. People will definitely think that I have two cores. I kinda want to keep one secret."

"Very well then, any more requests?"

Raymond rubbed his chin, "Can I have some grade four materials with lots of mana? Or just give me access to a grade four mana cultivation room."

To grow stronger, one thing was required—mana. Absorb mana, turn it into your attunement. Do this enough times and your mana becomes purer and you can store more. Once you reach your limit, either form a circle or undergo a tempering. Then repeat it all over again.

Raymond previously just absorbed mana straight from whatever grade two or grade three items he could get. But it was honestly a waste. A mana cultivation room was much better, except it could cost upwards of thousands of dollars just for a single minute. Even then, the process still depended on the individual. Making the efficiency vary wildly.

She frowned, "Even for us at the mage association, we only have mana cultivation rooms going up to grade seven. But they’re rarely used. The cost to operate them is too high. You shouldn’t fall for all the marketing. They aren’t as useful as you think they are."

Even instructor Sienna—who was the vice-president of the mage association was outright admitting it.

"Then can I get the grade four materials?"

"They’re quite expensive and giving them to you is a waste of their usage..."

Aren’t you an SS-rank? Why are you fixated on the money?!

"Can you just bill the Grace Family?"

Rayez was rich anyways, he probably wouldn’t mind spending a few hundred thousands for him right?

The door to his ward opened again, seeing him lying upright. She announced her presence to him, calling out his name.

"Raymond...?"

"Lily?"

Raymond received a lot more then he had thought he would. The trio—Zachary, Arthur, Thomas. Noelle, Lucy, Audrina and Lin Qingyi had all sent a few get well soon gifts (Cador had sent a card as well, but he seriously doubted it was actually him). The Coffee Club had sent several cards, alongside Sky Soaring and Mages For Life.

And now, even Lily was bringing him more stuff. The space on the floor of his ward was starting to run out already. Especially with Noelle and Lucy’s gift taking up the majority.

Just then, the door opened again. Ellen, holding a takeout container filled with food paused at the sight of another silhouette through the divider curtains.

Pushing through the divider, she made eye contact with the unknown entity.

Hmm? That look in her eyes...

Ellen didn’t even need to activate her Arts to determine what that emotion was.

The temperature of the room seemed to suddenly drop, both Ellen and Lily locked in a staring contest. Sparks flying between the two.

"Hey Ellen, it’s Lily from the Coffee Club. You remember her right?"

"Of course, how could I forget someone like her?"

"Lily, this is Ellen."

"I know, she’s the rank one of us first years after all."

Their words seemed nice, but why did they keep looking at each other like that?

Raymond accepted the candy that Lily handed out to him, popping it in his mouth—the perfect human would never develop cavities...hopefully.

Tch

Lily broke eye contact first. Causing a smug grin to form on Ellen’s face.

"I’ll get going now. I still have classes later."

Raymond checked the time—11:19 there was still another forty minutes until lunch ended though?

"So quickly?"

"See you later okay bye."

He didn’t even get to say bye back before she left.

He turned to Ellen, her face returning to its neutral nonchalant cool face. The smug grin that was just there a second ago wiped away.

"What was that about?"

"Who knows~"

No. It definitely seems like you know??

These past few days had been like repeated impacts to the head. Leaving him stunned in place and an easy target for another.

From the trio’s frequent visits, Ellen deciding to stay in the ward basically 24/7, the several gifts being sent (some from people he didn’t even know). He was more mentally tired then he was physically.

Especially Ellen, who insisted on being there with him. He didn’t mind her presence. But dammit he kept remembering what happened when he first woke up.

Kgkkhh

His blood pressure shot up again. Blood rushing to his face as his mind replayed everything again for the umpteenth time.

Whatever, he only needed to ensure this for a few more days. After that, he would be free to go from this damn ward. He had gotten sick of the same sterile walls and the bland slop they called food they brought him. If not for Ellen bringing him real food, he might have died from the malnutrition.

Raymond was planning on locking himself up within his apartment and never coming out for an entire month at the very minimum. That should be enough time for such an embarrassing event to completely disappear from his mind right? As long as he just kept himself busy, his mind would naturally forget such a thing...

Kkgghk

Like hell he would be able to forget something like that!!!
