Dimensional Hotel-Chapter 606: Hu Li’s Gift
The snow continued to fall intermittently throughout the night, and there seemed to be a gust of wind in between.
The sound of the wind coming through the window was low and muffled, making Yu Sheng sleep more soundly that night.
Of course, another reason he slept well might be because Erin was relatively well-behaved that night—perhaps she got tired from playing in the snow outside the door after coming back last night. She didn't cause as much trouble as usual with her spiral kicks followed by knee strikes and then elbow hits. She only headbutted him twice...
Snowy days are always perfect for sleeping in. By the time Yu Sheng opened his eyes, it was already bright outside. Through the window, he could hear the sounds of noisy children downstairs. The little puppet that slept on the bed last night was gone, and three of the four boxes in the corner of the wall were empty. Only Erin was curled up in one, playing with her smartwatch. Seeing Yu Sheng get up, she lazily lifted her arm and pointed outside the window: "Big Golden Hair is outside playing snowball fight with a bunch of kids."
Yu Sheng sat up on the edge of the bed to wake himself up, then walked over to draw the curtains and open the window.
A wave of cold air hit his face, filling his lungs with icy freshness, instantly clearing all drowsiness from Yu Sheng's system and making him wide awake.
The laughter and chatter of those playing outside turned exceptionally clear.
A group of kids was frolicking excitedly in front of No. 66 Wutong Road—yesterday's heavy snow had left a thick layer on the ground. Luna had already gone out early to clear a path from the door to the street. The rest of the snow left untouched had turned into a playground for the kids, who were having snowball fights, building snowmen, or just rolling in the snow, while the most conspicuous sight was a golden fluff ball darting around like Wind Rolling Grass.
Further away, Yu Sheng spotted a shadow dashing around in the thick snow, resembling two connected black iron discs, burrowing in and out like a mole. From the second floor, he stared at it confusedly for a while before realizing it was Erin dragging her frying pan...
Yu Sheng also noticed Little Red Riding Hood—probably concerned about the long-haired princess' questionable childcare skills, she purposely came to watch over them.
The girl wore a bright red coat, with the faint outline of a beastly shadow behind her. Standing with her hands in her pockets on the open ground between No. 66 Wutong Road and the parcel collection point.
Mature, calm, and cool like a lone wolf from the north.
Unfortunately, she was not of northern stock, and the Wolf Pack from the Black Forest hadn't bestowed her with cold-resistant traits—Little Red Riding Hood's face was flushed red from the cold, stomping her feet every now and then, likely close to spawning snot bubbles.
"Hey, brother!" The perceptive long-haired princess sensed the gaze from above, immediately raising her head and happily waving her arms at Yu Sheng, "Want to come down and play?"
Yu Sheng waved it off: "You guys have fun, I'm too lazy."
The long-haired princess didn't mind, using a strand of her golden hair to lift a snowball and tossed it towards the second floor, giggling with delight when she saw Yu Sheng catch it: "Brother! Why didn't you tell us it was snowing outside? I only found out from scrolling my phone—Oh, brother, can you make it snow in the valley too? It's sunny all the time over there, it actually gets pretty boring..."
"Just go to Fire Stick's Subset, it snows and winds there nonstop all night," Yu Sheng replied offhandedly, "The environment in the valley is stable; where am I supposed to make 'winter' appear for you?"
"You could open a big enough hole in the sky, with the other end at the Special Service Bureau Building; they're used to it anyway..." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Yu Sheng ignored the impulsive Big Golden Hair downstairs.
He turned and went to the living room on the first floor, where he saw Hu Li had already warmed up breakfast. A bowl of steaming Fox Stew was set on the dining table, accompanied by sesame biscuits bought from the morning market. Hu Li was in the kitchen washing the pot she had borrowed from Zheng Zhi yesterday—as soon as she sensed Yu Sheng's presence, she immediately wiped her hands and joyfully ran over, pulling something from her tail to present to Yu Sheng.
It was a white scarf.
Yu Sheng blinked, looked at the scarf the fox girl handed over, then at her big tail behind, feeling a bit bewildered, but soon had a vague realization amidst his surprise.
"A gift!" the demon fox girl said happily, "I knitted it myself! Using my own fur~"
Is it for real?!
Yu Sheng felt a rush of warmth flooding his heart, while also recalling that this girl had been collecting her shed fur for a period of time—it seemed not enough at times, and occasionally she would even grow a few extra tails just to pluck more fur...So that's what it was all used for!?
Yet in the next second, he was a bit baffled, his forehead filled with question marks after scrutinizing the demon fox girl's furry tails: "Wait, how did you spin this into yarn...Can fox fur even be spun into yarn?"
"Yes, I can," Hu Li nodded vigorously, "Although it's hard to form a line, using some Immortal Law can do the trick..."
Yu Sheng was amazed, marveling at how the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's Immortal Law was truly a catch-all wonder. At the same time, he reached out to take the white scarf handed over by Hu Li—a warm and gentle touch came, a sensation he had never felt on any other fabric. He opened the scarf, noticing the ends had nine tassels woven like fox tails, and even saw cute fox head patterns on both sides, unsure how it was crafted.
The fox girl, who usually seemed to do nothing but eat, sleep, and bask in the sunlight... could have such skills?
Mystical feelings slowly stirred in Yu Sheng's heart as he held the scarf that seemed to hold some body warmth. He looked up at the girl in front of him, seeing her golden-red eyes sparkling, full of amusement.
"In my hometown, foxes learn this from a young age," Hu Li said happily, "Gifts made from our own shed fur are the most precious~~"
Yu Sheng felt a surge of emotion, opening his mouth as if to say something, but before he could, the Great Demon Fox in front of him suddenly said, "Savior, there's more!"
Hu Li then turned around and rummaged through her tail, pulling out another silver-white item, "I also knitted a pair of woolen underpants for you..."
The emotions Yu Sheng had just begun to brew shattered instantly, just like the recently recovered golden-haired Erin.
He stared at the other "gift" in Hu Li's hand, dumbfounded, struggling for half a minute before speaking, his lips trembling, "Is this... also a custom in your hometown?"
The fox girl beamed, "It was Erin's idea!"
Yu Sheng's heart clattered at the realization, unsure if it finally felt settled or shattered, with a sense that the world had finally become entirely insane. He turned his head to consult the little puppet, but only saw through the corner of his eye a tiny figure slipping out through the gap in the window with a swoosh, not forgetting to use silk thread to close the window behind it...
Hu Li seemed completely unaware of Yu Sheng's subtly changed expression, still excitedly explaining, "Savior, let me tell you, I researched for a long time, and only managed to solve the itchiness problem with Immortal Law a couple of days ago..."
Yu Sheng was deeply moved, but he still asked Hu Li to stop talking.
With the most complex expression of his life, he accepted the most absurd gift of his life, silently deciding to bury the item deep within Shuji's earth, while wishing this silly girl in front of him, wagging her tail, would never remember this again.
Hu Li was quite happy—she had finally given the gift she had prepared for so long, and the Savior seemed quite pleased (?). So she hummed a tune as she returned to the kitchen to continue scrubbing the pot.
Yu Sheng finished his breakfast with mixed feelings, and just as he was about to go to the door to bring Erin back for a talk, a sudden urgent phone ringing interrupted his action.
Upon checking his phone, he saw it was a call from Baili Qing.
"Do you have time?" The voice on the other end was as calm as always, though Yu Sheng couldn't shake the feeling there was a hint of drowsiness in it, "Come to the Special Service Bureau for a visit—it's related to Zheng Zhi's previous encounter."
After listening to only a couple of sentences, Yu Sheng's expression had already turned serious. He hung up the phone and immediately summoned a door leading to Baili Qing's office, calling out towards the kitchen, "I'm heading out to the Special Service Bureau!"
The next second, after receiving a response, he was already standing in Baili Qing's office.
The familiar large floor-to-ceiling window, the familiar spacious desk, and behind it sat Baili Qing, who got straight to the point upon seeing him, "The technical department completed the analysis of Zheng Zhi's transmitted data overnight, and now we can confirm two things:
"First, the 'illusions' he previously saw indeed originated from the Venerate Saints Monastery's secret hideout. It is preliminarily determined that this hideout should be located within a gravitational shadow zone in the Dark Meteor Domain or the Great Triangle Nebula. The exact coordinates are still under analysis, but due to equipment and recording conditions at that time, the data available for analysis is significantly distorted, offering little hope.
"Second, Zheng Zhi's business phone recorded environmental data from the 'other side,' in which we found critical parameters almost identical to those when a dimensional rift is opened by the World Bridge."
Yu Sheng had known before coming that the Special Service Bureau must have discovered something significant, but the two pieces of information that were directly presented still caught him off guard. After a brief moment of stupor, he quickly reacted, "You mean to say the Venerate Saints Monastery is... really building another World Bridge?!"
"More and more clues point to this possibility, from suspicious logistics information and communication records uncovered by Luo, to your encounter in the dark alley, and now to Zheng Zhi's strange experience..." Baili Qing's tone was grave, "It seems now that the Venerate Saints Monastery has likely been targeting the 'World Bridge' from the very beginning, and they might have known the 'Dark Angel' nature of the World Bridge since a long time ago, beginning their operations many years in advance."
