Chapter 9: :Coward

The rumors of someone following the woman of the Lion's Guild leader quickly circulated around the sanctuary, among eavesdroppers and those interested.

It didn't take long before Tai Lei, the leader of the guild, also heard this rumor. He took it more seriously than anyone else, even slamming his desk and yelling, with swollen veins beside his neck.

"Who's this bastard? Give me his name now!" Tai Lei yelled, grabbing hold of the man's collar. His reaction was something to be even scared of.

"I... I don't know, sir. He's a new hunter in the sanctuary. None of us... we... we haven't seen him around before," the messenger stammered before he was thrown to the ground by Tai Lei.

He didn't know why Mei Long would not even accept his proposal. He knew he was tall and handsome. Not every man with blue hair could be as fit as he was, or even be a good cultivator like he was.

"For godsake, Mei Long, I've reached late Martial Realm stage. Is my yin not enough?" he asked, looking at the man on the floor.

"Very enough, sir. Nobody's yin can match yours. It is very sweet, sir."

When the last sentence rang in his head, Tai Lei gave a disgusted look and kicked the guy's neck so hard that the man was sent halfway across the room. Accompanying his painful groan was his broken neck.

"Sir."

Someone else rushed into the room, alerting Tai Lei that Lady Mei Long had arrived in the building with Xuan, since he was basically the head of Mr. Lan's guild.

He personally chose Mei Long to be the captain and his assistant because of several things—one which had to do with him loving her, and two, not to stress her in hunting.

As Xuan and Mei Long walked in holding hands, immediately Tai Lei saw this, his head exploded. But Mei Long was here.

"You must be Xuan, right?" Wanting to break their hands, Tai Lei stretched his palm for a shake, but Xuan didn't bring his hand forward because Mei Long was restricting him.

'Bastard, I'll teach you a lesson,' thought Tai Lei. "Come with me so you'll be registered in the group. What says your strength, by the way?"

"He's already at Martial Realm stage 4, and there's no need to assess him. I have done that already."

"What? Sta... stage 4?" Xuan stammered and quickly cleared his throat. "She's wrong. Late Martial Realm stage 5."

As he said that, everyone inside the building gasped. Tai Lei even took a few steps back away from Xuan, tagging him as a monster.

'He's already at the same level as I? Bastard. I was going to duel with him for revenge, but he could disgrace me with Mei Long here,' thought Tai Lei.

He calmed himself and adjusted his suit. "Since you've been assessed, it's left with the duel test. You'll be facing—"

"Me," Mei Long quickly cut in, not letting Tai Lei speak a thing. He didn't know if she was doing this on purpose or it was simply because she loved this guy.

"Xuan, come with me to the duel room, okay?" said Mei Long, holding Xuan's hand as they both walked away from Tai Lei.

Everyone inside the room kept looking at Tai Lei's fist with fat veins. Most of them were pitying Xuan already.

Mei Long and Xuan walked into the duel test room, a white room with rows of computers on the first floor of the room. Tai Lei was also inside the room, leaning against the wall.

If it wasn't the fact that he was scared, he knew for a fact that he could beat Xuan. But what if Xuan wasn't lying? Then he'd get his ass mopping the floor in front of Mei Long.

Xuan was given a watch, placing it on his wrist with no means of opening it. Mei Long wasn't putting one on because Xuan was the one being assessed by those people on the first floor with computers.

"You have five minutes, Xuan, to make the yellow bar on the watch turn red," Mei Long explained.

"How can I move it?"

"Every successful attack on your opponent increases the power bar."

"Oh, okay."

Bam!

After Xuan said that, he immediately punched Mei Long's face and connected his knee against her stomach. Mei Long didn't believe what had just happened until Xuan was about to punch her again, but someone else caught his fist.

"Don't you dare hit my woman again," said Tai Lei.

"Your woman?" Xuan asked, perplexed by what he had just heard. But he didn't have time, and before Tai Lei could even say yes, he nodded his nose, drawing out the first blood and Tai Lei stumbling backwards, cleaning his nose.

"Yes! It's turned blue!" Xuan felt happy and didn't know he was in trouble.

"You're playing dirty. You've crossed the line, Xuan."

Tai Lei summoned a red lion-like bow, concealing its aura with killing intent. Even those behind the computers were screaming that the duel room was becoming unstable.

Tai Lei smirked. So it only took this minor chance to kill Xuan, and he would savor it. However, Mei Long stood in front of Xuan with her hands opened.

"Stay out of it, Tai Lei. I'm the one—"

Bam!

Not letting her continue her words, Xuan punched her face again, this time with a smile as if he loved hitting people. Shocked, Tai Lei ran toward her, a little blood dripping down her nose.

Unknown to him, Xuan had ignored them and picked up the fancy weapon. "Woah, this thing must be made of beast cores. I heard Martial Realm stage cultivators could summon weapons like this."

Xuan picked up the bow. Mythical weapons like this one didn't need arrows, and Xuan knew that. He spent his life in the library reading almost everything about the world.

"You idiot, how dare you—" Tai Lei paused. As of now, Xuan was aiming the bow with the red glowing arrow at him.

"I wonder how high the bar would increase if I shoot you," said Xuan. A big, devilish smile crept in. 'I couldn't use my leg in my world. Archery is something only arms and precision require. I am a master of precision,' thought Xuan.

Tai Lei knew one thing: one shot is enough to destroy a mountain. What was his body compared to a mountain? He also knew he didn't want to die.

"I have only seconds left, with only an inch left to reach the red bar. Will this work?" Xuan muttered.

And Tai Lei let go of Mei Long, where she fell, gradually standing up and leaving the aim, which was now facing Mei Long—her beautiful, watery eyes staring at Xuan.

Looking at her pitiful face, Xuan smiled. He said one word before releasing the arrow. "Coward."
