Chapter 6: Boss Ren is really impressive when he’s annoyed!

"You’re going to blacklist me? A lowly merchant like you?"

The Duke of Mu’s steward was startled by Ren’s flat declaration and started to laugh out loud.

He was laughing so hard that his multiple chins jiggled, and tears were almost coming out of his small eyes.

The other enforcers and bodyguards around them couldn’t help but snicker, looking at Ren with absolute ridicule and contempt in their eyes.

Was this lazy shopkeeper an idiot? Did he not know who he was speaking to? That was the head steward of a Duke!

The Duke of Mu was a noble and renowned bigwig within the imperial city, possessing a private army, and his steward was naturally well-known as a tyrant as well.

For the owner of a tiny slime shop located within a dead-end alleyway to casually boast that he would blacklist the steward of a Duke, it was the biggest joke in history.

"Do you know how easy it is for me to tear down this pathetic shack? The fact that I am even standing in here is giving you immense face. You should be on your knees happily serving me my beast. Who gave you the courage to be so conceited in front of me?"

The steward snorted, haughtily crossing his fat arms over his silk robes.

Ren was expressionlessly looking at the steward as if he was observing a particularly stupid insect.

"Steward? Is that supposed to be an impressive title? Even a Core Formation Royal Prince was rejected by me when he tried to pull rank. Do you honestly think I would care about a glorified errand boy?"

Ren did not even bother to argue further and just lightly tapped his fingers on the counter.

Xiaoyi’s eyes lit up, and she was overjoyed, quickly stepping back to give the brass giant room to work.

Unit 01’s mechanical optical sensors suddenly flared with a terrifying red light as its distorted, robotic voice buzzed,

"Hostile Entity Detected. You will be stripped as an example to others."

The Duke’s steward was startled, but his arrogance blinded him. Cupping a hand over his ear, he stretched out his neck and taunted,

"What? What are you going to strip, you clunky piece of scrap?"

"Say it again! What are you going to strip?!"

Unit 01’s heavy mechanical head smoothly rotated, locking onto the steward. Its massive brass arms instantly reached out, aiming to grab him by the collar.

"Hmph! How impudent!" The steward coldly snorted with a sullen expression.

As a peak Foundation Establishment expert himself, there was absolutely no way that he would be afraid of a piece of Artificer junk that didn’t even emit the slightest fluctuation of Qi.

"I will turn you into scrap metal! Take this, Mountain Crushing Palm!"

With a loud, arrogant shout, the steward imposingly gathered true energy within his bloated body and violently struck Unit 01’s mechanical chest with his glowing palm.

The result was catastrophically different from his expectations.

The fierce palm strike by the Duke’s steward was like a mosquito hitting a brick wall. Unit 01 didn’t even budge a single millimeter from the attack.

The kinetic force simply vanished into its dense armor.

"Fuck..."

The steward’s fat body stiffened. He awkwardly raised his head and made direct eye contact with Unit 01’s glowing red eyes.

Then, Unit 01 proceeded to swat the steward into the polymer floor like it was slapping a noisy fly.

The protective true energy within the steward’s body was violently dispersed in an instant, his breath knocked completely out of his lungs.

The sickening sound of expensive silk tearing rang out as the steward’s clothes were mercilessly ripped off by the machine’s hydraulic fingers.

In two seconds, there was only a tiny, humiliating loincloth left to cover his private parts.

Unit 01 then grabbed him by the ankle and threw him out of the store in a perfect, parabolic arc.

Everyone in the store was absolutely dumbfounded, their eyes transfixed by the steward’s pale, flabby body.

As they watched him sail through the air and splash into the muddy alleyway, their entire bodies shuddered violently.

Just as the arrogant Zhao Feng arrived at the entrance of the alleyway with his entourage, a massive, half-naked human figure flew out of the store and landed squarely in a puddle at his feet... For some reason, there was a profound sense of déjà vu about the situation.

It seemed that every single time Zhao Feng approached this cursed store, there would be a naked man flying through the air to greet him.

"I’ll say it again. Queue up accordingly and do not make any noise. Any violators will be permanently blacklisted and used as target practice," Ren simply said, sweeping his bored, half-closed eyes over the now deadly silent crowd.

Then, he turned around and lazily returned to the Breeding Zone.

Xiaoyi was standing by the counter with her small fists clenched in excitement.

"Boss Ren is really impressive when he’s annoyed!"

Zhao Feng shuddered in the rain as he vividly recalled his own previous nude streaking experience.

His original, arrogant intention to storm the shop and demand service instantly evaporated, and he obediently lined up at the very back of the queue, hiding his face under his bamboo hat.

When the Minister of Revenue, Zhao’s father, found out about the failed assassination attempt on the Third Prince, he sent his son to investigate the store again.

In the beginning, Zhao Feng flatly refused, traumatized by the brass golem.

However, when his father promised him a rare Tier-4 Spirit Gathering Pill as a reward, he shamefully compromised his dignity.

Inside, Advisor Xu was gravely staring at Unit 01 as it returned to its charging station.

Even a Core Formation expert like him felt a slight, undeniable pressure from the lifeless machine.

"This puppet is absolutely not simple. It defies the laws of cultivation."

Minister Zhao was pensively nodding his head as well, staring at the container in his hands.

"The puppet is strong, but this Mutated Slime... this must be the true hidden weapon of this ranch."

The two political rivals looked up and met each other’s eyes, a silent understanding passing between them.

Then, they lowered their heads and continued to observe their purchased beasts.

The purity of the elemental Qi was simply too good!

Intimidated by Unit 01’s brutal efficiency, the subordinates of the capital’s bigwigs were suddenly much more docile.

The cultivation level of the Duke’s steward was considered quite strong among them. However, he was still helplessly stripped and tossed out like garbage in the blink of an eye.

Without a doubt, they would only end up in the exact same humiliating state if they tried to pull rank.

They could only be completely docile if they didn’t want to explain to their masters why they were running home in their underwear.

Xiaoyi haughtily glanced at the fearful crowd of elite guards, puffing out her chest as she memorized their orders and reported them to Ren.

Advisor Xu and Minister Zhao reluctantly finished their initial inspections with enraptured expressions. There was a very good reason for the astronomical prices of the slimes.

The purity of the Qi was even better than the elixirs produced by the Royal Alchemists.

Also, the two of them could clearly feel the dormant true energy within their own bodies reacting positively to the ambient aura. It was obvious that these beasts were extraordinary, living treasures.

As they hurriedly left the store to report back to their respective Princes, the people at the start of the queue eagerly stepped up to the counter.

Ren’s synthesis and retrieval speed was fast, so they didn’t have to wait for too long.

Without a doubt, everyone who purchased one of Ren’s beasts was completely subdued by the quality.

Zhao Feng’s greed was being fiercely triggered as he breathed in the elemental fragrance drifting from the store and watched the wealthy customers reluctantly leave with looks of pure bliss.

It was his third time coming to the store, but he had been unable to successfully buy a beast the previous times. From the looks of the satisfied customers, the slimes seemed genuinely miraculous.

He was burning with anticipation to finally get one.

When the last customer satisfactorily left the store, a joyful expression immediately appeared on Zhao Feng’s usually scowling face.

He elegantly walked into the store, shook off his wet cloak, and gracefully stopped in front of Xiaoyi.

"Oh, it’s you, Naked Zhao," Xiaoyi looked up and said while pouting. She obviously remembered the guy who landed on the fat mercenary.

"For the precious princess of the Ouyang military clan to humbly become a counter girl, what an absolute waste of talent. Tsk, tsk, tsk. I’ll have the Searing Mana Cube,"

Zhao Feng ordered after glancing at the new item on the menu. If he had to buy something to prove his worth to his father, he would buy the most expensive, dangerous-sounding item.

"That’s none of your business!" Xiaoyi snorted, scrunching her nose at him.

She turned around and walked to the entrance of the Breeding Zone to report the order. However, before she could shout it out, Ren expressionlessly walked out, wiping his hands on a towel.

"Today’s business hours are over. Customers who haven’t bought anything, come back tomorrow," Ren simply said, flipping the small wooden sign on the counter.

With his words, the remaining eight people in the queue started to clamor in outrage.

"What? We’ve already waited in the rain for close to an hour, and you’re telling us that you’re closing?!"

"Boss Ren, this is unfair to us! It’s still early afternoon! We have Spirit Stones! We want to buy your beasts!"

Ren was completely unfazed while facing the countless, entitled complaints of the wealthy crowd.

"I’ll say it again. Today’s business hours are over. If you want to buy, come early tomorrow. Oh, and please don’t make a racket on your way out," Ren expressionlessly said, letting out a long yawn.

Behind him, Unit 01’s mechanical eyes suddenly shone a bright, violent red, locking onto the people who were complaining.

Immediately, the entire group went dead silent, as if they were being physically strangled.

With Unit 01 keeping watch, they could only swallow their boiling anger and resentfully leave the shop, already dreading how they were going to report their failure to their demanding masters.

Zhao Feng felt as if a countless amount of invisible arrows had pierced his pride. "Fuck! Business hours are over again?! Could you not be so painfully punctual?!"

"Boss Ren, I’ll pay five times the price... I want to order the Cube!" Unwilling to give up and face his father’s disappointment, Zhao Feng desperately tried to persuade Ren, pulling out a massive bag of gems.

"I refuse. Queue jumping is forbidden. You already tried to bribe me the previous time," Ren simply said, not even looking at the gems.

"Rules are meant to be bent for the wealthy, Boss Ren! Ten times! How about ten times the price?! Ten thousand Spirit Stones! Today, I absolutely must buy that item," 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

Zhao Feng gnashed his teeth, glaring at Ren with a mixture of pleading and rage.

"No." Ren’s capitalist heart was bleeding as he resentfully rejected the massive pile of money to uphold the System’s strict rules.

"If you raise your offer one more time, I will definitely have Unit 01 beat you up for tempting me!"

Zhao Feng was so depressed that he genuinely wanted to vomit blood. He coldly glared at Ren, then angrily snorted, spun on his heel, and stormed out of the store into the rain.

Xiaoyi’s face was filled with pure admiration as she looked at Ren. She always thought that Boss Ren was an incredibly greedy person who only cared about money.

She did not think that he would be so rigidly principled against bribes.

"Smelly Boss, the way you rejected Naked Zhao’s money was so cool!" Xiaoyi gave him a bright thumbs up.

"Haha," Ren expressionlessly smiled, a single tear of financial regret rolling down his cheek.

Over the next two days, the Dimensional Ranch was always teeming with high-profile people. There were new, wealthy customers arriving every single day.

Advisor Xu and Minister Zhao would send proxies every morning, completely subdued by the quality of Ren’s elemental beasts.

On the other hand, the Luo siblings and the Third Prince, Xia Ming, did not appear at all during that time.

Of course, Ren was slightly surprised by their absence, but he was too busy counting his massive profits to pay much heed.

And so, the third day arrived.

It was also a very important, highly anticipated day in the imperial city.

The sky was clear, and the tension in the capital was palpable.

The Beast Tamer Sect, a massive powerhouse that controlled the monster trade across three empires, had finally arrived in the city with their grand caravan of exotic, terrifying war-beasts.

Today, they were officially issuing open challenges to all independent beast merchants to prove their absolute dominance.

And their very first target was the infamous Dimensional Ranch.
