Disaster Apocalypse: Farming, Family, and My Hidden Secret Space-Chapter 6. Discovery
Chapter 6 - 6. Discovery
Agriculture, no matter ancient or modern, is something a country regards with great importance, as food is the foundation of a nation.
Food is a significant pillar determining whether a society can remain stable; for a country, having sufficient food is crucial.
As long as food is plentiful, the economy won't experience major fluctuations, and the population can continue to grow steadily on a stable foundation.
Conversely, if there's not enough food to eat and starvation is widespread, who would care whether the country is strong or not? Without food, various problems arise, and it's not uncommon for people to overthrow a regime just to fill their stomachs.
Therefore, throughout countless dynastic changes, the most valued aspect by the court has always been agriculture. Only when people aren't starving or freezing can a country endure longer.
So when she heard her brothers say that they had a ten-day break from farming duties, Jin'er wasn't surprised at all.
"Even though it's a holiday, you brothers shouldn't slack off. In your free time, you should still read more books."
Though the old man Hua didn't know many characters, he recognized a few, otherwise, he wouldn't have become the village chief of Hua Village.
He was aware of what being a scholar represented, and in his heart, he hoped that his grandsons could achieve something academically, even if they only passed the lowest level, as it meant they wouldn't have to rely on farming anymore.
His two grandsons were diligent, though not very talented, they worked hard, but a little urging was still necessary.
The grandfather's words prompted the brothers to stand up quickly and bow respectfully, "Grandfather, we understand."
"Good, now sit down and eat," the old Hua said with a hint of a smile in his eyes, and Hua Chengtian also looked at his two sons with satisfaction.
The meal concluded in a warm atmosphere.
Afterward, Hua Yunpeng and his brother went back to their room to complete their tasks assigned by their teacher, needing to finish their work before the busy farming season.
As the night deepened, Jin'er also went to rest in response to her family's urging.
After a good night's sleep, Jin'er felt as if she had just lain down when it was already dawn. Hearing her parents' voices in the courtyard, she sat up and couldn't help but stretch, feeling the dryness in her throat. She instinctively returned to her space, grabbed a box of room-temperature milk, and sat on the sofa drinking it. But when her gaze fell on the coffee table, she paused.
If her memory was correct, she placed an empty yogurt cup on the coffee table yesterday, so why is it gone now?
Could it be that the space can automatically recycle garbage? If so, that would be wonderful, and Jin'er's eyes lit up.
Like her original self, she couldn't stand a messy area, but she dared not take anything out from there, and over time, the environment...
This is great! Truly great!
The space is quite user-friendly, not bad!
Thinking this in her mind, she didn't stop her actions, and soon finished the box of milk; yet, the aftermath came.
Not eating was fine, but eating made her even hungrier.
Let's have a meat floss bread to stave off the hunger. She immediately stood up and walked towards the storage room, heading straight for the box of bread she had just opened yesterday.
Just as she was about to take one out, Jin'er paused again, her pupils suddenly constricted — this is... Looking at the full box of meat floss bread, she couldn't help but blink again and again.
It's not an illusion, it really is a full box as if none were missing.
But... that's not right!
Clearly, she ate one yesterday.
Could it be...
Thinking of this, the light in Jin'er's eyes burned fervently.

Could it be that her space not only has self-cleaning capabilities but also has self-recovery features?
Once this thought arose, Jin'er could no longer suppress her excitement, her heart felt as if it were growing weeds, yearning for an answer right away.
Her slightly upward-curved apricot eyes shimmered as she fixed her gaze intensely on the bread in her hand, as if she could stare flowers into bloom.
Then, as if recalling something, she immediately ran to the kitchen holding the bread and opened the refrigerator.
The yogurt cup she drank yesterday was taken from the refrigerator, if the space truly has recovery capabilities, the yogurt cup should also be able to regenerate.
Jin'er fixedly stared at the gap in the refrigerator, but it was gone, really gone.
This moment could almost be described as ecstasy.
Yet she cautiously and carefully checked the number of yogurt cups.
She had counted them yesterday, it was easy to verify if the numbers matched.
The result naturally delighted Jin'er — they matched.
Just as she speculated... the space indeed has the ability to recover and regenerate.
With excitement in her heart, holding the bread in her hand, Jin'er returned to the living room and burrowed into the sofa.
She thought to herself, although she had only lived for thirty short years, she was always a law-abiding citizen, not having done many good deeds, after all, it wasn't easy to do good deeds in that era!
But she never did anything bad, occasionally feeding stray cats and dogs, so how could the heavens let her suffer in this world?
Indeed, a golden chance finally came her way.
Jin'er was as delighted as a cat that had stolen some cream, squinting her eyes as she ate the bread in her hand.
Yet she wondered whether all the items in the room had this recovery ability. If so, that would be absolutely wonderful!
Jin'er couldn't suppress her excitement at the thought.
Finding out wouldn't be difficult, conducting an experiment would reveal the answer.
No sooner said than done, Jin'er placed the bread wrapper on the coffee table, right beside the milk carton.
Then she returned to the storage room, looked around, and took a bag from the box of milk candies. She initially wanted to take a bag of flour, but its volume was too large to hide, so after contemplating, she opened a large pack of noodles, taking one roll out.
These were all food items; Jin'er already had some idea about them. What she was more eager to test were the other items in the storage room.
She then turned her attention to the medicine box, took out a box of antipyretic and a box of anti-inflammatory medicine, followed by a self-defense dagger, and then a crossbow which she had acquired at a high price. She had wanted to buy a gun, but was too timid and couldn't find a channel for it.
The crossbow was also hidden in a secret compartment in the storage room, daring not to display it openly.
Luckily, she didn't have many friends, nor did she have many visitors to her home, so she didn't worry about being discovered.
Next, she took a piece of outdoor outerwear and then stopped. More would really leave no place to hide them; the space under her bed was quite limited.
With essentials for eating, dressing, and self-defense all gathered, she would conduct experiments to see if these items could be taken out of the space; otherwise, all her thinking would be futile.
Without further delay, she appeared on the bed in her room in the blink of an eye, and looking at the items on the bed, Jin'er let out a sigh of relief — it could be taken out.
Without lingering, she quickly stuffed these items under the bed one by one, until no traces remained.
Just as she relaxed, she heard her mother calling softly from outside the door.
"Jin'er, are you awake?"
Having done her laundry, Qi stood worried in front of her daughter's room door. Except during the days when she was seriously ill, ever since the child could get out of bed, she would open doors early, and she wasn't usually one to sleep in.
Seeing the door still closed at that hour and recalling how long her daughter spent in the courtyard yesterday, Qi couldn't help but worry, rapping gently on the door.
Hearing the concern in her mother's voice, Jin'er quickly responded.
"Mom, I'm up." She spoke as she walked toward the door, opened it, and gave Qi a soft smile, allowing Qi to breathe a sigh of relief, casting a reproachful look at her daughter.
"You're up but didn't open the door."
Jin'er gave an embarrassed smile, "Hehe, I slept longer today."
