Chapter 100: Just in time

Amelia was thinking about what to do. She could not make odin’s effect pass when they needed. There was no way to do this. The drug was already strong itself, his action was abnormally fast. If she tried to make it even faster, Alfar could suffer the consequences afterward, and Olaf as well.

Besides, the collateral effects they were having weren’t something to be canceled so easily. In fact, she didn’t know if it was the most intelligent thing to force too much. The better way to go was to wait until the drug’s effects passed at the right time, however, she knew that Casper wouldn’t last long there.

Even with all the controversies, she needed to find another way around, otherwise, Casper would be taken, and all those efforts, meaningless.

"Damn... What do I do...? I have two patients convulsing in front of me, one of them is in a concerning state, another is ok, but his reaction to the drug was as bad as the first... Someone is fighting to protect the place, but he is at disadvantage..." When the nurse turned her eyes away from the patients and looked to Casper, who was still exchanging shots with the enemies, she had a realization.

"Amelia!?" Casper yelled again. He was giving a burst of shots against the enemies again, then covering himself inside the infirmary when they retaliated, nearly getting him with a good shot.

"Wait! Wait! I am thinking here!"

She struggled to not lost her line of thought, massaging her temples and walking back and forth. The nurses looked at her as if she was a crazy woman.

"We are looking to the wrong path. We don’t need to be focusing on the patients, who are in a difficult and irreparable state. We should be looking for something We can change.

"Casper is in a pinch there because the Ridires are coming from both sides and the terrain is unfavorable to him, even though he is the one inside the infirmary and the Ridires are uncovered. Their numbers and resources surpass the only advantage that Casper has."

The head nurse thought for a moment, trying to lay out something for that situation. She remembered how much fighting intelligence Casper had shown to her when he knocked out the commandant.

"He seems to be better at battles that need intelligence instead of firepower... That’s something we can work on. The infirmary isn’t too big, but has different rooms and places he can take advantage of.

"I am not a soldier, but it’s just logical that a single person will have way more facility fighting in a place where he has more mobility."

The nurse tried to call him, but the intense exchange of bullets and grenades was too loud to allow him to hear something that she said.

Carefully, Amelia needed to crouch a bit closer to him, shouting again his name. The soldier didn’t look at her, but he gave a signal with his head indicating that he was hearing.

Casper would never avoid his eyes from the battle. In a second someone could be looking back, and in the other, a bullet would be stuck at their heads.

Not that just look would make him able to avoid a bullet, but it gave a different sense of security and maintained his focus on the battle.

"Casper, we will move them directly to one of the most distant rooms from here. We will do it as quickly as possible, and so you will have plenty of space inside this infirmary to fight against them."

Casper continued firing. He could target one or two Ridires that were about to enter that place. Then, he switched the side he was focusing on, paying attention to the others coming from the right.

The White warrior shot some times, then picked another flashbang and tossed it against them.

"Ok." He finally responded, then began to shot again, short and accurate bursts of bullets.

"When you are ready, tell me, then I will retreat a bit." The soldier completed, drawing the rifle again. He had spent all the energy from the rifle already and was waiting for it to recharge, which took some time, so he was using the pistol until then.

The head nurse nodded and was about to get out of there, when another grenade was tossed, this time an explosive one, and it came from the left corridor.

At the exact moment it was tossed, Casper killed the person who threw it. He jumped towards the nurse, making her lay on the ground to protect her against the explosion.

"Go, now, Amelia!" He screamed in her ear. It made her come back to reality, cutting off that buzzing inside her ear due to the close explosion.

"Those idiots! They should have been trying to guard the complex, not demolish it."

Casper helped her to raise from the floor, pushing her away from the entrance.

"Don’t be shocked! Move on!" He hurried her again, and the head nurse came back beside Alfar’s bed. All the nurses were seeming agitated and disturbed, but at that point they just waited for another order from Amelia.

"Someone, attach their hands and legs, then help me to take them away to another place! We will bring both to the more distant room from here and treat them there. Got it!?" All the nurses nodded, then quickly began to follow her orders.

"That’s good. They aren’t exactly calm, but their minds are getting used to the pressure and frenzy." Probably that was just their survival instinct. It was a matter of fact that Casper wouldn’t give up until a bullet pierced through his head, and no one could take as granted that one of those bullets would target them by accident.

Since they were inside the infirmary, the nurses would be in danger, and just their actions would decide if they could survive.

After striving for some time to hold the arms and legs of the patients and tie them, the women cooperated to take them off the main room of the infirmary and headed to the individual rooms.

Casper didn’t even wait for the signal to leave the entrance side and go deep into there.

He moved to a corn of the room where some devices were, which was the best part of the main room to hide and have a good sight of all the place. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

The Ridires approached slowly the entrance, then stepped inside the infirmary. They were willing to catch Casper no matter what.

Those warriors had lost a lot of their comrades until then just in the corridors. People who weren’t even supposed to know what was pain, warriors who were in Halden just to relax and have lazy days.

Besides, Casper always was a threat. The Ridires from Halden, who were there just for show, just to have an easy job that gave a good income; those Ridires needed to pass their days going to work apprehensively because they had someone now that could snap back.

Each of them giving chase after Casper wouldn’t even give details about that. They were going with the intention to kill, and just that. No mercy, no hesitation. The scientists would never know what happened. That inconvenient man would disappear and the peaceful days in Halden would reappear.

Once they stepped inside the infirmary the first shot was given. They stopped their advance, but another flashbang came flying before they could even notice where Casper was in that room.

The three first Ridires that were bolder enough to enter that place like that got knocked out in a matter of seconds.

Coldly and determined, Casper remained

at the same place, peeking at the entrance from behind those large medical devices and with his gun already pointed.

Who tried to enter that place would receive a shot or two in the face immediately. They wouldn’t have the time to think.

"Now that the terrain is in my favor, I doubt that these guys will dare to put their feet inside here! I will not let nobody pass!" He prepared his last grenade, he was out of flashbangs. The rifle had energy, ammunition wouldn’t be an issue as well, and so was the pistol in his waist.

At the same time, the nurses were rushing towards the individual rooms, disposed of in the corridors of the infirmary. It was not a huge trip, but with two dead weights on their hands, it was hard to make it until there.

They arrived at the room they were aiming, opening the door hastily and then putting their bodies on top of the bed.

The individual rooms had just one bed, so they needed to drag another inside there, which was difficult since they were pretty heavy.

The right devices to measure their body stats and to give them medicine from the vein were already there, and some more were disposed of around the room.

Some of the nurses moved a metallic cabinet in front of the room’s door, just for precaution.

They untied Alfar and Olaf, which were still convulsing and moaning, but this time with less strength. Their wounds were closing with an incredible speed, and it was a disturbing sight somehow.

"Please, hold them a bit more, Casper." The head nurse prayed. Now that her chance to do what she always wanted to do showed up, Amelia would make it right. Halden would change forever.
