District 42-Chapter 105: Fight back!
Alfar was inside the cell dealing with those capsules. As far as Casper had said, it was one capsule per Block, and it was ideal to throw it in the middle of the corridor, to be assured to make it right.
When the Dark elf heard what kind of drug had inside them, he just couldn’t believe that Casper was doing that crazy thing. It was one thing to try to make a rebellion into the prison, but do this with a bunch of inmates going mad with Berserker? It was just unbelievable.
He was a chemical before, a scientist. He knew that Berserker in gaseous form wasn’t so strong. Nevertheless, it did not mean that it was okay to use it on large scale...
At this point, Alfar needed to compliment Casper. His boldness and creativeness were something to fear and admire.
Alfar did not know what that guy had in his speech, expression, gestures, or actions, but he gave to others the impression of being a reliable person, who always knew what to do, which made the Dark elf follow his orders without hesitation for the most part.
That was why he kept going with that crazy first step of the plan until the end. He was aware that a lot could go wrong, but knowing that was Casper who was orchestrating all that show, he was confident that they would surpass those odds.
"Better for me to finish this quickly before I think too much and end up giving up on it. I hope that Olaf could go to his position as well, otherwise, it will be a total mess." He had gained his hole, Casper as well, but Olaf also was of huge importance there, since he would be the one taking care of the "resources".
After some time of rambling, Alfar calmed himself, stopped his continuous thoughts, and focused on what he needed to do.
He pressed a button right in the middle of the capsule. Immediately, an orange gas started to come out of it. He threw it into the corridor, right in the middle of it. Out of that tiny capsule, a huge quantity of gas came out in a matter of seconds.
Alfar held his breath. He wasn’t willing to be got into that mess.
"Berserker is good for a lot of things regarding fighting performance issues, but it also messes with the reasoning of an individual, and he turns into a crazy addict in fighting. It’s like lose some neurons of the brain for some time..." Of course, a drug as powerful as Berserker would be just like a double-edged knife, it has its disadvantages as well.
"Because of the Dark elf, I can’t feel the effect of the majority of drugs, and the ones that work on me always have collateral effects, so I can’t afford to prove if Berserker will affect me."
The gas spread through the entire corridor quickly. The cells got filled with that orange gas. Each prisoner in there was taken by surprise, and all of them breathe that drug, even if a little. It had a spicy scent, and once one started to breathe it, he would not be able to hold the need to breathe more, until their senses got all numb and the will to fight raised.
...
Just like Olaf and Alfar, Casper wasn’t at the infirmary anymore. He had moved to another place where the Ridires couldn’t find him, and would not even think that he would be there.
Using the master key, he could access the part of the security system that controlled the gates, including the ones of the lockdown rooms. He was in one of these rooms now, operating the keyboard, now with a holographic screen appearing in front of him, along with a tiny, black one, filled with white numbers.
With the keyboard and the black screen, he could access the network of Halden, and give external commands to them. With the biggest screen, he switched between the cameras of the prison to keep an eye on Alfar and Olaf from far away.
During the time at the infirmary, Casper was always working on his plan every time he got to use the master key.
When he said that the mission would start, and then both of his partners left the infirmary, all had been settled up a long time ago. He had already disabled the masks of everyone there. They just needed a little internal push.
When Alfar threw the capsule filled with Berserker and it spread totally, Casper was spotting.
He was grateful that the Dark elf could trust him for that.
Since the meeting, Alfar seemed to be quieter, more distant. The soldier supposed that he could just be concerned about the plan, but there was nothing he could do to help, instead of hope he would do the right thing for everyone.
"Ok, seems that the drug made the expected effect, not too strong, not too weak. It was the right dose to make them wake up, finally." The soldier clenched his fists, feeling victorious, even though it was just the first part of everything else.
He took a look on the black screen, confirming if the code he typed was about right. He was still trying to decipher the programming language of that world, although it was very similar to the ones he was familiar with.
"Ok, seems that this is about right... Then, now... He switched the camera to another one, in the path that Olaf was making.
Until now the man seemed to be the most useful person in Casper’s plans. He had that trick of influence among the Ridires that was surely something good. But he was very clever as well. He had the facility to analyze a situation and take quick and realistic conclusions. It was just limited because of his shyness and insecurity.
He was heading to Block E. The guys that Anton had found to keep the production of guns were settled in that Block. And Casper needed those guns immediately, at least before everything turned to be the huge mass he was sure that it would be.
The ammunition that Olaf could get from the Ridire was stored there as well.
Casper made sure to turn off most of the cameras in Olaf’s path, distract the Ridires with some kind of strange sound in their communicators, and let the cell’s gate that he was aiming opened already.
The man could get into Block E, and the preparations to transport the semi-made guns started. Everything they would need to do was to put together those parts they made. It would take some minutes to get everything done.
When Olaf put his feet inside the cell, Casper changed again the screen to Alfar’s Block.
He typed some more codes, held his breath, then applied it.
In no time, all the cells’ gates opened at once.
First, nothing happened. The place was just all covered in orange and the cells were wide open. However, after some minutes, the prisoners started one by one to get out of there.
Soon, the corridor was filled with those inmates already under the effect of that drug. Their freedom was there again. They could do what they wanted. A hint of fighting spirit was in their minds, a consequence of the Berserker in their blood flow.
Casper was so glad that it worked that he started to laugh with joy inside the lockdown room.
"It worked! God damn, it really worked after all!" He excitedly started to navigate through the Network and accessed the loudspeakers of the alarm. If one could manipulate it well, it was possible to reproduce their voice there.
Casper configured the loudspeakers of Block D, adjusting volume, then starting to talk.
"Hey, you all. As you can see, I kept my part of the promise. I said that I would lead you to the surface again, didn’t I? I said that, if you followed me, we would make it until our freedom, right? Here we are now, one step further to achieve it, but now I will need you all to help me!"
The prisoners got surprised with Casper’s voice in the loudspeakers, but remained quiet, hearing attentively what he had to say.
"Your masks aren’t working now. Berserker is flowing through the blood in your veins. And I have total control of Halden’s Network! I give you the opportunity, so I ask for just one thing: Fight back! Fight back, not even a single step backward, keep going further, let’s steal our freedom back to us!"
People began to get more excited after each phrase that left his mouth. He saw that they couldn’t wait for more to go to action. Some of them were nearly fighting with each other.
"Get together at the canteen, take your weapons, them dominate this place! That’s our first goal! Then, go!" Once the last words came out of his mouth, all the inmates began to run towards the canteen.
The first step was done. Now, the next: dominate the prison.
