Chapter 318: Frelsis’ Victory

Javir was sitting on the roof’s edge of a house. His eyes were aloof as if he was deeply thinking about something, although now he was thinking in absolutely nothing. It was past 5 pm. The sunset was near, and he was excited to see it coming that day.

The old man had this kind of habit since he began to hang out with Inna in the past. When they became lovers, they always would sit in a high place and just stay quiet beside each other. Even now he did it because he felt that he was closer to Inna when he did so, just as if she was still beside him again.

That wasn’t an interesting nor fun activity for anyone who looked at it. However, for them, it was one of the best moments they could have in their days because it was the only time when they could just appreciate silence and peace.

Peacefulness was the thing that most lacked in the Frelsis’ life since the day of their birth. Every time was just war, conflicts, problems, flaws, mistakes... They needed to lose a lot of people, needed to fail a lot of times, needed to struggle through those fifty whole years just to finally come at that day and do things right this time.

Javir was in disbelief that they would succeed, nonetheless. For him, it didn’t make any sense to the Frelsis to win that day. It lasted more than fifty years to be able to invade that Castle. Fifty years of always trying this same thing and failing over and over again. Also, several decades of searching were needed to find what was Gungnir and raise their hopes that the masks could be thoroughly broken.

’Even though strive like this made my folk stronger and more resilient, we are always walking with short steps since the start. It’s difficult to think that our victory is near. Maybe I passed so many years just hitting my face against the wall, that I forgot to have faith in myself and my comrades, but I can’t bring myself to create expectations just to feel more hurt when something bad happens.’

Javir sighed, looking at the smartphone that he had in his hand. It wasn’t a new model, but the Frelsis could just talk to each other through the old ones, so they wouldn’t get easily tracked.

He was waiting for the call that Camilla would do to him. She would be the one reporting him about how was the mission. The other Vanirs called as well, but just to say if the cities were completely dominated.

’It’s hard to believe this. All the Vanirs could pull through, except the giant one, but the city he was attacking was evacuated, regardless. They all were in their last reserves of force, and their victory on their respective battles seemed to taste bitterly for some reason. Maybe they just discovered how distant they were from the virtue of the Aesirs. I can understand it. It’s difficult to fight someone who seems to care just as much as the Vanirs for their folk.

’That’s one of the problems of the Frelsis. We think that everyone under the control of the Royal Family is bad, but that’s not true. A puppet is just a puppet in the end, after all. You need to aim to the person that is controlling them.’

He stopped to think again, just looking at the blue sky above. His head was getting calmer each time more. Javir just needed to stop thinking about that mission and he would calm down again.

Nevertheless, his calmness vanished once he heard the smartphone ringing. His heart began to race and he got agitated.

Javir reached the phone again and answered the call.

"Hello, Camilla?" He was always cautious when talking to his daughter. Javir knew about her mental condition and even felt guilty because of it. Just as he blamed himself for Inna’s death, he also thought that he was the reason for his daughter’s suffering and craziness.

In truth, it was always painful for him to hear Camilla when she was out of control. Sometimes, he wondered with himself if that was really his daughter.

"Hey, papa!"

"H-How are things going?"

She giggled on the other side of the line.

"Gungnir is on my hands now. I could make the King give it to me with a special technique! It was fun. Anyway, I couldn’t take that Freygar this time, unfortunately. I will have more opportunities, I hope."

"And what about the Castle?"

"What are you talking about? We conquered all the cities. The Vanirs said it to you, right? And the Royal Family is now gone, others escaped. Also, the King and the Queen are on their thrones, surrendered."

Javir’s eyes got filled with tears, as he got up from the roof’s edge. His heart was beating fast in his chest, but this time not painfully, but filled with joy.

"Are you saying..." He gave a pause, looking at his hand to see if he wasn’t dreaming. For a moment he wondered if he misheard it. "Are you saying that we..."

"Yes, papa. We won! It’s the Frelsis’ victory today!"

Javir closed his hand, forming a fist. His sky blue eyes got brighter than ever before.

With the force of someone who shouldn’t be his age, he jumped happily, yelling in celebration.

"We won! Inna, Drott, we won! We finally won! Hahaha! Finally! Our freedom, our desires, our dreams! Everything is nearest than never! We can do it!"

His celebration could be heard by the other Frelsis around, who began to gather around that house when hearing the good news. They were whispering among each other, in doubt if what they heard was a misunderstanding or...

"Hey, you all! Why are you just standing as if anything happened? Didn’t you hear it?" Javir shouted at them with a grin on his face. He raised his fist in the air. "It’s the Frelsis’ victory today!"

Afterward, all those people began to celebrate, some crying joyfully, others laughing, others yelling. People began to spread quickly those news. Soon, all the Frelsis were partying. Their time to be happy finally arrived.
