Divine & Bizarre: Increasing Points to Invincibility-Chapter 936 - 249: Dynasty Gains Fame! Fan Wu’s Name at Qiulong Temple?
The Imperial City Division of the Shangwu Dynasty was indeed numerous, the total number of its personnel across the entire dynasty... not less than two hundred thousand people! This was an astonishing figure, considering that those who could enter the Imperial City Division must be cultivators. And they must be cultivators trained by the Imperial City Division from an early age to ensure their loyalty. Those cultivators who joined halfway could not guarantee loyalty.
That is to say... just the Imperial City Division, a special government institution, had no less than... two hundred thousand cultivators! Such a number, if placed within the Great Zhou Dynasty, was unimaginable! It is known that the regular army of the Great Zhou Dynasty, in total, only had a few hundred thousand soldiers. While the Shangwu Dynasty had two hundred thousand people just in one Imperial City Division, the disparity in national power between the two was not minor.
If the Great Zhou Dynasty had that many cultivators, the already dead old Emperor of Great Zhou would possibly have laughed his teeth out, his mouth splitting with amusement. Unfortunately, to cultivate that many cultivators would require an astronomical amount of resources. At least, it was not something one Imperial Court of the Great Zhou Dynasty could afford; even if the national treasury of the Great Zhou Dynasty was emptied, it might not sustain these two hundred thousand or so cultivators.
In the Imperial City Division of the Shangwu Dynasty, the most basic official personnel were the members at the "Cao Division" level. Above the Cao Division Chief, there were "Division Chiefs," who could command ten Cao Divisions. Above the Division Chiefs were the "Commandants," which had the most levels subdivided into "Senior Commandants" and "Junior Commandants," each further divided into three sub-levels.
From high to low, they were—First Rank Senior Commandant, Second Rank Senior Commandant, Third Rank Senior Commandant; First Rank Junior Commandant, Second Rank Junior Commandant, Third Rank Junior Commandant. A "Third Rank Junior Commandant" could command two "Division Chiefs," a "Second Rank Junior Commandant" could command two "Third Rank Junior Commandants," a "First Rank Junior Commandant" could command two "Second Rank Junior Commandants"... and so forth.
Above the various levels of commandants... were the true high-ranking officials within the Imperial City Division of the Shangwu Dynasty. Above the First Rank Senior Commandant, the rank was "Prison Superintendent," divided into Chief Prison Superintendent and left and right Deputy Prison Superintendents. At the same level, there was also the "Imperial Servant Superintendent," also divided into Chief Imperial Servant and left and right Deputy Imperial Servants. Another at the same level was the "Book Prison Superintendent," similarly divided into Chief Book Prison, left and right Deputy Book Prison.
Further up was the core of the power in the Imperial City Division, consisting of four people, one of whom was the core leader of the Imperial City Division, the "Chief of Division." The other two were the deputies of the Chief of Division, titled "Left Division Chief" and "Right Division Chief". The last position was special, more like a supervisor of the entire Imperial City Division, called "Supervising Division Chief," though he had no Deputy Division Chiefs under him.
Such a government institution with numerous levels, without enough personnel, could not support... so many levels. Clearly, the two hundred thousand or so people in the Imperial City Division of the Shangwu Dynasty were just enough to maintain these many levels. And the person who couldn’t help but spit a mouthful of tea earlier, was just a Third Rank Junior Commandant within the Imperial City Division.
That person commanded two Division Chiefs, and the two Division Chiefs under him, in turn, commanded ten Cao Divisions. All these people together made up only twenty-three people. The position of "Third Rank Junior Commandant" sounded similar to that of a Little Banner Officer in the Great Zhou Dynasty. Perhaps because of the differences between dynasties, he might have been more formidable than the Little Banner Officer of the Great Zhou Dynasty, but he managed the same number of people.
"Evil... Evil God?" This Junior Third Commandant of the Imperial City Division, after hearing such an astonishing statement from one of his Cao Divisions, really struggled to hold himself together. His face bore an expression of bafflement, his eyes staring intently at the Cao Division in front of him.
And his brow was furrowed, his expression somewhat twisted in conflict as he asked sternly, "Do you even know what you are talking about? Do you understand what an Evil God truly signifies? The recently celebrated Fan Wu from Linhai County... you say he slew an Evil God?!"
He was aware of the earth-shattering deeds Fan Wu had accomplished in Linhai County, after all... if someone from the Imperial City Division did not know even this, they might as well pack up and leave. However, he had only learned of the slaying of an Evil God today. It was for this reason he found it so hard to keep composed.
"Commander, there is not a single falsehood in what I just mentioned, as this news came from the Imperial City Division of Lingchen County. The incident occurred there, and all the Imperial City Divisions there were witnesses to this event," the Cao Division in front hastily responded. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"Hiss!" The Third Rank Junior Commandant couldn’t help but suck in a breath of cold air, as such a message was indeed too shocking. He instinctively felt it might just be a false rumor, which was why he had questioned the Imperial City Division Cao Division earlier with such a tone and expression.
Yet, surprisingly, such a shocking message turned out to be true and even authenticated by the Imperial City Division in Lingchen County! What did this imply? The Third Rank Junior Commandant swallowed hard, sensing the potential changes this news could bring.
