Divine Beast Creator-Chapter 2137 - 2138: The Peculiar Obelisk
The pitch-black obelisk stood abruptly in the eerie forest sea, with sunlight barely penetrating through the thick layers of leaves, casting tiny specks of light that barely illuminated the space beneath the trees.
If it weren’t for Long Boduo’s help, Feng Yuan and his party might not have found the location of the obelisk, as the environment here was indeed quite dark.
With a wave of her hand, Veronia summoned glowing crystals that shot towards the pitch-black obelisk. However, her attack didn’t cause much damage to the obelisk; instead, the blood-red texts on the silent Netherworld Obelisk began glowing one by one.
"What are you trying to do?"
Feng Yuan looked at Veronia with some confusion, not understanding why she suddenly attacked.
With a faint hum, Veronia stared at the Netherworld Obelisk and said,
"This thing is not the Netherworld Obelisk you’re familiar with!"
"The text is wrong; the Netherworld Obelisk is supposed to guide and mourn, but the text here seems more like destructive wishes, and the color is incorrect—it should be blue, not red."
Long Boduo squinted and reverted to its original form. In its human form, its combat power was restricted, as it wasn’t like Veronia, a top-level Divine Beast whose strength wasn’t significantly affected.
Black mist surged from the peculiar black obelisk, and Feng Yuan pulled out a pitch-black Ancient Book and said,
"This thing seems to have been modified; be careful!"
The black mist above the obelisk condensed into a massive mist demon, which swung its claws, enveloping the area in a black veil that darkened the surroundings.
"Heh~ Playing games inappropriate for children after lights out? I cannot let you succeed~"
Veronia sneered lightly, snapping her fingers, and glowing crystals fell relentlessly like a meteor shower, not only illuminating the dark space but also erecting clusters of shimmering crystals on the ground.
Agunas was about to act but suddenly sensed something, merely holding his book cautiously and looking ahead.
At that moment, the mist demon extended shadowy tendrils from behind, reaching out towards Feng Yuan and the others. However, as the crystalline rain fell, the shadows seemed frozen by the light, unable to move.
"What is this thing? It doesn’t look like a creature from the Netherworld."
Seeing Veronia had controlled the strange mist demon, Long Boduo began to scrutinize the creature, only to find he didn’t recognize it.
Tamur saw Feng Yuan looking at him, circled around, and shook his body, saying,
"Don’t look at me."
"Any forewarning?"
"No."
With Tamur’s answer, Feng Yuan’s expression turned serious. He knew what it was, but theoretically, it shouldn’t appear in a Netherworld Obelisk.
The mist demon, or Nightmare Demon, ought to be a creature from the Dream Domain, specifically from the Nightmare Zone, associated with the black panther, and shouldn’t at all be connected with the Netherworld Obelisk.
After contemplating, Feng Yuan looked at Agunas and asked,
"Where is Anernia now?"
"We don’t need it to act against this thing."
Agunas flicked his tail, puzzled, as he didn’t think the Nightmare Demon was difficult to deal with. For most people, the Nightmare Demon’s dream characteristics made it hard to eliminate, but to them, these characteristics were inconsequential.
The Divine Beast Technique can disregard such special traits and eradicate the Nightmare Demon completely, leaving Agunas unsure of Feng Yuan’s intentions.
"Not to let it act, but I’m wondering if it knows anything, given that this thing should be unrelated to the Netherworld Obelisk."
Looking at the trapped Nightmare Demon, Feng Yuan explained as Xing Bo and Ah Mu worked together to set up a barrier, protecting Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan while Xiao Ji stood vigilant before Feng Yuan, watching the massive Nightmare Demon.
But due to Veronia and Long Boduo’s joint attack, the Nightmare Demon was unable to retaliate against them.
Flicking his tail, Agunas said,
"It might be unclear; this thing... There’s no record, or rather, it’s not recorded in the archives."
Agunas, after all, managed historical texts, so if it wasn’t in the records, he wouldn’t know, much like the time Quine’s group was so cautious they left no textual record, leaving Agunas helpless against them.
The corresponding time point was sealed, with no information to retrieve from the texts, naturally leaving him in the dark.
Now, this modified Netherworld Obelisk showed similar signs, understandably making Agunas uneasy.
"No record ... Not even a manuscript left behind?"
Grasping his chin, Feng Yuan asked Agunas again for confirmation, as Agunas’s ability was quite unique, encompassing a broad scope of texts, even considering hastily scribbled drafts as part of historical records.
For this reason, it’s challenging to evade Agunas’s investigation unless there’s no record at all or a special language used that Agunas didn’t understand.
Agunas’s ability didn’t include language proficiency, only deducing familiarity through comprehensive analysis of historical texts.
Languages without development are as obscure to Agunas as foreign languages to someone who hasn’t learned them.
"No, at least none corresponding in historical texts, and some texts I cannot retrieve."
Agunas said, looking at Feng Yuan, suspecting now whether the mysterious emergence of the Netherworld Obelisk in the Serene Forest Sea is tied to the Yin World due to Kui Shan Town’s involvement with it.
"I see, for now, let’s trap it; it’s better to investigate elsewhere where it’s more convenient."
Glancing at the surrounding black spherical barrier, Feng Yuan sighed; although Veronia and Long Boduo restrained the mist demon, they weren’t hasty to eliminate it to search for evidence.
Without eliminating the mist demon, the barrier wouldn’t vanish automatically. Violently breaking it was possible, but Feng Yuan feared new developments from doing so, considering the obelisk wasn’t the only one.
Perhaps understanding Feng Yuan’s concern, Agunas acted, grabbing the mist demon with blue-hued claws, compressing it into a temporal sealing. Seeing the squeezed mist demon, Veronia turned to Agunas, puzzled, saying,
"Why use this method to deal with it~"
Sparing a glance at Veronia, Agunas ignored her; such a question was more fitting from Long Boduo—Veronia?
Doesn’t it know what trick she used?
As Agunas captured the mist demon, the encircling darkness dissipated, and the red texts on the obelisk shattered like glass and disappeared.
With the Netherworld Obelisk restored to its original state, Long Boduo hesitated for a moment before stepping forward and summoning black chains to securely lock the obelisk. Feng Yuan looked at Long Boduo, puzzled, and asked,
"What are you doing?"
"Not sure if this thing has issues, keeping it locked to prevent a direct return to the Netherworld, otherwise it’ll be troublesome to find later, though it’s not just Serene Forest Sea experiencing issues."
Transforming into human form, Long Boduo glanced at the chained obelisk, saying the Divine Beasts network calling alerted it to incidents beyond Serene Forest Sea.
Agunas flicked his tail and said,
"All regions exhibit similar anomalies, what’s going on?"
Netherworld Obelisk’s threat wasn’t significant, as its sole method unveiled thus far involved mist demons, manageable with Elite Level strength.
Disposing of them was tricky, though.
Moreover, the sheer number of emerging Netherworld Obelisks led Long Boduo to suspect Omeilia Region’s corresponding Netherworld Domain faced issues, as its appearance seemed almost half of the total Netherworld Obelisk count.
"Not just Serene Forest Sea encountering issues?"
Feng Yuan was surprised upon hearing Long Boduo’s revelation, unexpectedly leading to such circumstances.
If so, won’t it potentially develop into a significant problem?
