Divine Beast Creator-Chapter 2148 - 2149: Traveling Alone
Feng Yuan spent the remaining holiday in Maomu City. Apart from strolling around and enjoying the relaxed festive atmosphere, Feng Yuan purposely set aside time each day to take Xiao Ji and the others to Data City for battle practice.
Though he’s not planning to participate in official Beast Taming tournaments, familiar Spirit Beasts joining battles in the Crystal Domain could provide significant assistance in modifying the rules, while also conveniently training the rapport between Xiao Ji and the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound.
The holiday ended quietly, and back at school, the students shared their holiday discoveries. However, most discussions focused on the suddenly appearing Netherworld Obelisk.
Despite the official explanation, they couldn’t help but worry, fearing that this event might somehow affect them.
It’s not because they’re timid; it’s just that historically, during such major events, they’ve always stood by watching others fight, feeling powerless despite having considerable strength among their peers, relegated to merely observing like ordinary people. It’s indeed unpleasant.
Feng Yuan wasn’t thinking about these matters; with hands behind his head, he leaned back in his chair, watching the teacher on the podium explaining Spirit Beast cultivation techniques.
Although such courses are meaningless to him, as he could arguably teach the teacher these topics, at this moment, he didn’t have anywhere else to go.
The original plan was to head to Kui Shan Town for investigation after the holiday, but for some reason, Feng Yuan felt resistant, perhaps subconsciously avoiding an issue he’s already sensed.
Qi Chen occasionally turned to glance at Feng Yuan sitting in the back row. He couldn’t help it; Feng Yuan seemed a bit off today, not being someone who would normally attend such classes.
Moreover, after exchanging intel with He Nanqing, Qi Chen noticed Feng Yuan’s emotions were a bit off. Unfortunately, despite subtle encouragement from both him and Dou Yanlan, Feng Yuan didn’t divulge anything.
Veronia and the others didn’t come to class with Feng Yuan; it was meaningless for them. If nothing else needed doing, accompanying Feng Yuan was fine. But now, with the suspicions of involvement with the Mythical Era at Kui Shan Town growing, they naturally couldn’t sit idly as before.
As for Feng Yuan’s unusual behavior, they’ve sensed it, even guessed something.
After Feng Yuan’s and He Nanqing’s analysis, even they felt this incident might be related to Feng Yuan, although they’re not sure when Feng Yuan caused this disturbance.
At least for him, he likely didn’t know about it, implying it was an inadvertent anomaly caused by him.
Of course, there’s also the possibility that they misunderstood Feng Yuan. After all, Feng Yuan isn’t the only one capable; it might just be a coincidence, right?
Agunas and the others hadn’t gone to investigate Kui Shan Town because they’re all waiting for Feng Yuan to act. Only Drudgeon is stationed there, monitoring the area, prepared to notify them immediately if anomalies arise.
"No more clues."
Maomu Grand Library, Veronia and the rest were flipping through the tomes here. Although Agunas could freely pull out relevant historical texts, those outside grand tomes that aren’t organized are left for Agunas to investigate, while Veronia and Tamur focused on researching within the grand library.
Regrettably, much like before, the materials they found did contain records of Kui Shan Town’s predecessor, but they’d already learned the latent information through other means.
They anticipated this outcome, yet truly realizing they couldn’t find the truth still leaves some disappointment.
"I wonder how things are going on Feng Yuan’s side. Without him leading, I believe even if we go investigate Kui Shan Town, we might not yield any findings."
Sighing, Veronia softly commented as she glanced at Tamur, who calmly used telekinesis to flip through books, seemingly oblivious to Veronia’s words.
At noon, after asking Qi Chen to help with an excuse, Feng Yuan took Xiao Ji and the others away from the academy.
After a morning’s reflection, Feng Yuan had come to terms with it; even if he avoids it deliberately, what difference does it make? If this issue is truly connected to him, he’ll have to confront it eventually. Rather than keep dragging it out, why not directly uncover the truth?
"You’re worried about him."
In the academy cafeteria, Dou Yanlan sat beside Qi Chen with a tray and said to him. Qi Chen nodded slightly, saying
"His mood seems off, as if this issue has an important connection to him."
"Perhaps he genuinely thinks so; maybe the power within him indeed originates from the Mythical Era, but..."
"I’m unfamiliar with the Mythical Era, clueless about the likelihood of peaceful communication between them. Given the power described during the Mythical Era, if conflict arises, it could be troublesome."
"Besides, survivors from the old era ultimately turning against each other..."
Saying this, Dou Yanlan shook her head; unclear about the details, her guess about Feng Yuan’s identity might be incorrect.
Feng Yuan hadn’t avoided physical exams. Each year of high school, the institution would organize comprehensive medical examinations, and Feng Yuan’s health records weren’t deliberately concealed. Thus, everyone knows he has a unique internal power but is otherwise no different from an ordinary person.
Because of this, Dou Yanlan merely suspects the force within Feng Yuan’s body was inherited from the Mythical Era rather than other possibilities.
Based on conclusions from modern archeological research, humans have evolved continuously over time. Although in appearance, modern humans aren’t significantly different from people in ancient or distant eras, internally, there are marked distinctions.
This discrepancy is multifaceted, assisting them in estimating the era a given ancient relic belongs to.
Due to these differences, Dou Yanlan and Qi Chen don’t believe Feng Yuan is like Veronia and the others, surviving from the Mythical Era to the present.
Taking Xiao Ji and the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound, Feng Yuan approached Liao Yu to borrow a car for heading to Kui Shan Town. Noticing that Feng Yuan wasn’t accompanied by any Divine Beasts, Liao Yu asked curiously,
"Where’s Agunas and the others?"
"Off investigating; I asked Big Cat and the others to notify them if they come back, ask them to find me at Kui Shan Town."
Waving his hand, Feng Yuan explained. He hadn’t bothered contacting Agunas and the others, as he deemed it unnecessary. He didn’t think the investigation at Kui Shan Town would encounter surprises, hence didn’t bother.
As for not bringing Big Cat and the others, it’s because they’re not needed. If a battle arises, Big Cat and others likely wouldn’t have a role, and if not fighting, they wouldn’t be of help either, not to mention Big Cat and the others have their own tasks.
Liao Yu considered this briefly and directly said to Ye Hanlei to bring her along and help drive Feng Yuan over, while also lending a hand.
Though their prowess isn’t remarkable, Liao Yu prides himself on his investigation abilities, particularly given Kui Shan Town’s delicate situation.
It’s not that the locals are unhappy with partial evacuation arrangements; everyone understands why these measures are taken. However, different minds lead to varied perspectives and intentions towards this matter.
At least as far as Liao Yu knows, if not for their folks overseeing things, internal chaos might have erupted within Kui Shan Town.
Therefore, Liao Yu felt it important to accompany Ye Hanlei and Feng Yuan, seeing their presence and identity as ensuring internal disturbances wouldn’t hinder Feng Yuan.
Although Kui Shan Town belongs to Maomu City, compared to Liantang Town, it’s much farther from Maomu City’s center. The three of them departed at noon but only reached their destination by afternoon.
"Is this Kui Shan Town? This place, if not knowing the truth, is hard to imagine was once called Huai Mountain."
Looking at the mountain behind Kui Shan Town, Feng Yuan couldn’t help but comment. The mountain is encompassed in greenery, yet perhaps due to the rocky nature of Kui Shan itself, the mountain’s plant life consists mainly of shrubs. Even occasional trees, compared to forest giants, appeared stunted.
At the foot of Kui Shan, an old, disheveled village lies; there, at the mountain’s base, is Feng Yuan and his group’s destination—Kui Shan Town.
Compared to Liantang Town, Kui Shan Town, though at the mountain’s base, is quite a distance from the highway. After parking, Liao Yu looked up at the stone steps, saying
"Originally, there were plans to build a winding road up here, but it was canceled for unknown reasons."
"Seems they discovered something back then?"
Scratching his head, Liao Yu momentarily couldn’t recall the reason why the road construction plan was canceled.
