Divine Beast Creator-Chapter 2163 - 2164: The Long-Awaited Encounter
Still throwing out a rope, Feng Yuan took the lead again this time, surrounded by huge gears slowly turning, although not at a particularly fast speed, causing gusts of air to blow towards Feng Yuan.
Although the airflow constantly swayed the rope, it didn’t have much effect on Feng Yuan. As he gradually descended to the plane where the gears were located, the two people standing in the passage couldn’t help but hold their breath.
Feng Yuan’s chosen position was somewhat dangerous, with invisible airflow blowing his descending body constantly, not too far from him, a massive horizontal gear rotating. One careless move, and an accident would surely occur if touched by that moving gear.
Luckily, the airflow didn’t reach that point. As Feng Yuan descended along the gap, Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan were unable to see him anymore.
Meanwhile, Feng Yuan, sliding down, didn’t think too much. As he passed through the outer layer of gears, the space below opened up considerably. Although there were still many gears and transmission rods visible, at least the chance of accidentally hitting nearby gears was reduced.
Gripping the rope with his right hand rolled up, Feng Yuan swung his left hand downward while hanging on the rope, and a white light sphere appeared out of thin air, slowly descending to illuminate the surroundings. Feng Yuan noticed a dimly visible dark gold passage between the gears and transmission rods below.
"Is it indeed the way from below?"
Thinking of the elevated walkway on the stone pillar seen earlier, Feng Yuan muttered to himself, wondering what exactly this place was, and why so many traps were set up here? Whether these gears and devices were mere frightening decorations or they served another purpose?
Landed on the metallic passage, Feng Yuan shook the rope as per the pre-arranged signal. Agunas flew down along the rope, glanced at Feng Yuan, and said,
"Shall I notify them to come down?"
"Yes, this should be the way forward."
Feng Yuan said, turning to look at the curved metallic passage. The entire corridor was very flat with special engravings on it; others might not recognize what decor it was, but Feng Yuan could tell it was the special decoration pattern he used in the past.
This post station is definitely related to those people.
However, Feng Yuan also noticed many mistakes within the engravings. Perhaps, they were merely successors or... descendants of those people?
While Feng Yuan pondered these things, Qi Chen and the others also came down the rope. Since they weren’t as strong as Feng Yuan, they might face danger from the mechanisms and traps here. Thus Veronia and Agunas naturally followed them down to protect them.
Seeing Feng Yuan standing still, Qi Chen was about to say something when Dou Yanlan patted his shoulder and slightly shook his head. Qi Chen paused for a moment, exchanged a glance with Dou Yanlan, seemed to understand something, and withdrew his extended left hand.
The two of them stood quietly on the spot. After a while, Feng Yuan finally snapped out of his thoughts, looked at Qi Chen and the others, and said,
"You’re down? Well, let’s go. I feel that the Netherworld Spring is ahead, and the answer... is also ahead..."
Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan looked worriedly at Feng Yuan walking silently at the front. The metallic passage [led them] [around] [the transmission devices] as they walked, and although the distance wasn’t far, it didn’t have the overwhelming oppressive feel as before.
The two followed silently at the rear, aware that Feng Yuan was most likely connected to those people, but they were both clueless as to what the underlying connection was.
Feng Yuan had no intention of explaining, and neither did Agunas want to explain on behalf of Feng Yuan. At this moment, except for their footsteps, only the sound of mechanical devices turning remained.
As everyone proceeded, the scenery around kept changing. White light spheres gradually appeared in the gaps, illuminating this passage, followed closely by gold light spots resembling fireflies, and finally, deep purple translucent energy bands like silk appeared.
These things were all slowly emanating from the front, and the closer they got, the more powerful energy they could feel.
The Netherworld Spring, a special natural phenomenon that, within the real world, forcibly created a piece of land resembling the Netherworld with its abilities, providing Ghost Series Spirit Beasts a stable and comfortable resting place.
As the bluish glow appeared, Feng Yuan murmured softly,
"Almost there..."
In the front, the metallic passage gracefully curved once more. As they tread through the bend, a massive round metallic platform appeared before them.
The round metallic platform just floated in mid-air, with a total of three levels structured, each layer being a circle shrunk more than half compared to the one above, and a ghostly purple sphere floated in the center, with purple and blue currents gushing like water from it onto the round platform below.
On the rims of each layer of the circular platform were circular grooves with exits in four directions guiding the water-like currents down to the next layer platform and beyond.
On this platform, numerous inscriptions unfamiliar to Qi Chen and the others were carved. Feng Yuan could understand them, because they were prayer scripts he once designed for convenience.
"This Netherworld Spring seems different from what we know of the Netherworld Spring."
Veronia said while looking at Feng Yuan, it speculated this must be related to Feng Yuan. After all, considering the identity of the other party, artificially creating a Netherworld Spring was an unimaginable feat for others, including Netherworld Divine Beasts, but not for Feng Yuan.
"Artificial Spring, and... why is it them?"
Looking at the black mist and the indistinct black garment on the platform, Feng Yuan already recognized the Spirit Beasts hiding within the black mist, yet it was precisely for this that he couldn’t comprehend.
"Yellow Springs Apostle..."
Muttering softly, the black mist slowly dispersed, revealing a cartoon doll-like Spirit Beast dressed in antique black garb. Its lower body drifted like mist, while the upper body was humanoid in resemblance yet only barely.
Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan frowned slightly. They didn’t know what kind of Spirit Beast the Yellow Springs Apostle was. Though they could guess the opponent was a Ghost Series Spirit Beast, they knew little more since they had never seen information about these Spirit Beasts.
The Yellow Springs Apostle stared at Feng Yuan for a long time, seemingly confirming something.
Just as Feng Yuan prepared to inquire, the Yellow Springs Apostle floated toward Feng Yuan, speaking in a peculiar voice in a language Qi Chen and the others completely didn’t comprehend.
Even Veronia and Agunas could barely speculate this might be an evolved version of a language from the Mythical Era.
This also confirmed many things: after escaping the Great Destruction, those people didn’t completely disappear from the world but instead communicated with the outside. Otherwise, this language wouldn’t have changed.
Feng Yuan, however, understood its words. He wasn’t surprised the other could speak human words. Although this language was special, Legendary Level Spirit Beasts could definitely learn human languages if they wished.
Its meaning was very simple.
They, await him.
They, want to see him once more.
They, wish to express gratitude yet unspoken.
They, have been waiting for him.
They, have anticipated him appearing before them once again, giving them the chance to speak the unsaid... thank you... and... sorry...
Feng Yuan took a deep breath, looked at the Yellow Springs Apostle, and said,
"Aren’t you with them?"
The counterpart was taken aback by Feng Yuan’s words, and after a while, understood, replying in strange language, incomprehensible to Qi Chen and the others.
But Feng Yuan understood what it meant.
It was not a Spirit Beast of their era, merely descendants of those Spirit Beasts.
Through exchanges with this Spirit Beast, Feng Yuan learned that those people once searched the entire world for him, only that, during that time, Feng Yuan was somewhere they couldn’t reach.
As for where they ultimately went, the Yellow Springs Apostle didn’t know.
When they established this Netherworld Spring, it was merely a newborn Night Demon, and eventually, it chose to guard here, waiting for the people they awaited, or perhaps, waiting for the signal announcing the end.
During this prolonged waiting, it witnessed later people constructing a post station above and what they did using the Netherworld Spring.
Those people were aware of its existence and its purpose for remaining here. Even though they possessed the strength to repel it initially, they chose to back off, borrowing the Netherworld Spring’s power but without truly altering its main structure.
The arrival of those people added a few colors to the monotonous life of this lonely candlelight night watch.
Sadly, as those people left, it was alone once again...
