Divine Convenience Store-Chapter 259: Defeating the Area Boss
Jiang Jianxin's sword gleamed with a cold, lunar light as she performed a technique enhanced by [Silent Moon Swordplay], channeling her Sword Will into a single, precise thrust.
The Area Boss, caught mid-descent, furiously roared as Jiang Jianxin's blade pierced its chest, the [Five Indomitable Sword Formation] tightened like a celestial snare. Impaling it.
Green blood sprayed, sizzling against the chamber's floor, and the creature's sledgehammer clattered uselessly to the ground. To evade being skewered by the Sword Fairy's swords, it did an almost impossible flip that was conventionally unbelievable given its massive form. Yet it succeeded.

It was aware of the disparity between their strength but Jiang Jianxin expertly made up the difference through her technical skills that were executed perfectly as though she had planned on it even before entering the chamber.
Now, injured, the Area Boss tried to cover its wounds, relying on its natural recovery to close them.
It raised its hand, willing its sledgehammer back into its hand. But Jiang Jianxin knew that she must prevent it. With light steps, she kicked the ground and floated like a kite before dropping the sledgehammer, pinning it underneath her.
Following that, the Five Indomitable Sword Formation had her flying swords dance in a relentless spiral, sending each blade one at a time.
The first sword went poof, skewering the Area Boss's outstretched hand.
The second sword went clang. The Area Boss slapped it away.
The third sword went whoosh as it flew past the Area Boss, failing to hit its target because of the quick judgement of the hulking creature.
The fourth sword went swish, grazing the Area Boss's shoulder as it twisted away, its reflexes unnervingly sharp for its hulking size.
The fifth sword, however, found its mark, sinking deep into the creature's thigh with a wet crunch.
The Area Boss staggered, its roar shaking the chamber as green blood pooled beneath it.
In Jianxin's ears, it sounded like it was speaking a foreign language. But she couldn't understand it.
Her eyes remained steady as she controlled her breath despite the strain of maintaining the [Five Indomitable Sword Formation].
Her spiritual energy dipped to less than 50%, the Celestial Duel Gear's summons and her swordplay taxing her reserves.
She couldn't afford a prolonged fight. Not against an opponent a level higher than her and not with the disciples and Elder Shi still fending off the swarm below.
If the fight gets dragged out, she'll be the one dropping dead.
"I have to end this quickly," She muttered as she popped a [Spirit Replenishing Candy].
She dismissed the formation, recalling her flying swords to orbit her like loyal companions ready to defend her.
The limping Area Boss snarled and summoned a surge of foreign energy, covering its body. Its wounds began to knit as the foreign essence weaved through its flesh like threads of green flame.
It gave up on taking the sledgehammer back and just charged forward. Its hulking size compared to Jiang Jianxin's lean frame was like a mountain bearing down on a sapling.
Yet Jiang Jianxin stood her ground. Her silver sword raised, its blade humming with the last vestiges of her Sword Intent.
The [Silent Moon Swordplay] demanded precision, not brute force, and she had no intention of clashing head-on with a creature that could shatter stone with a single blow.
"Senior Sister, we've thinned their numbers!" Li Ruo's voice rang out from behind her, "We'd finish here and assist you!"
Elder Shi's gruff followed, punctuated by the thud of his broadsword cleaving through another green-skinned creature. "Jianxin, you just need to hold on. Let's take it down together!"
The disciples' summoned units – [Crimsonshadow Archer], [Jadeclaw Tiger], [Mistveil Sorceress] and [Harmonic Backup Dancer] – continued their assault.
Li Ruo and her archer continued taking down more green-skinned creatures with great coordination. The tiger's claws rent the bone weapons asunder while the sorceress's frost spells locked the remaining creatures in place, allowing the other disciples to easily catch them. The backup dancer provided an aura that helped in fending off the suppressive effect of the foreign energy.
And at each creature that died, the green mist swirled upward, absorbed by the disciples' cultivation bases, pushing their spiritual energy closer to their breakthroughs.
Jiang Jianxin's lips curved into a resolute smile. Her team was holding strong and the store's products were proving their worth. They did not just use the common talismans that had already gained popularity among the store customers. Extraordinary pills and artifacts with niche effects also provided a sufficient contribution in lowering the risk of injury. And then there was Elder Shi, who could easily overpower a group of the green-skinned creatures by himself. He's a practitioner of the 'hard' method, making all his strikes as heavy and as destructive as the Area Boss's preference for strength.
Eventually, Jiang Jianxin darted forward, her movement technique carrying her in a fluid arc before letting one of her swords carry her over the Area Boss's charge.
Her flying swords trailed her, their silver edges glinting like stars in the chamber's dim light.
The Area Boss swung its massive fists, each strike sending ripples of foreign energy that scorched the air and offered the reminder that the Sword Fairy shouldn't be hit by it, even if it's just a graze.
She twisted mid-air, her body bending like a reed in the wind, narrowly avoiding a blow that cratered the ground beneath her. And there, she landed lightly behind the creature, her Celestial Duel Gear flashing as she activated another Spell Card, one that directly dealt damage to her opponent. [Blossom's Verdict].
Her spiritual energy and the foreign energy around her got sucked inside the duel gear, unleashing the effect of the Spell Card. Sharp blade-like petals surged forward, aiming to pierce through the Area Boss's body.
It was difficult not to miss it, given how huge it was. And then, her sword, amplified by her spiritual energy and the special effect of her Ethereal Cloud Edge, followed after.
"Fall," She whispered, her voice as cold as the moonlight.
Her silver sword lashed out, a crescent of Sword Will slicing through the air. The [Blossom's Verdict] shattered the Area Boss's remaining crude bone armor and carving a deep gash across its back. Green blood sprayed, and the creature toppled over.
It tried to stand up again as it slammed its fist on the ground, causing a seismic shock that snaked through Jianxin's location.
She had to jump away and block against the sudden shockwave, her flying swords forming a protective spiral to deflect the foreign energy's sting.
The Area Boss's resilience was unnerving, its wounds closing even as it staggered, fueled by the almost endless supply of foreign energy.
Jiang Jianxin sucked in her breath, her spiritual energy now hovering at a precarious 40%. The [Spirit Replenishing Candy] had bought her time, but she needed to end this now.
Suddenly, Jiang Jianxin felt like she was missing something crucial.
She looked around and found it.
The pillar!
Her eyes zeroed in on the dark branches pulsing with green veins at the chamber's center.
The Area Boss's strength or its endless regeneration was tied to it. She had to sever that connection.
"Li Ruo, Elder Shi!" She called, "Target the pillar! Break its branches!"
Elder Shi roared in acknowledgment, his broadsword already swinging toward the pillar. "Disciples, with me! Clear a path!"
His [Mountain-Cleaving Strike] smashed through a cluster of green-skinned creatures that also seemingly understood that they had caught on. Their bodies dissolved into mist as he carved a line toward the pillar.
Li Ruo's [Crimsonshadow Archer] loosed a barrage of arrows, pinning down the creatures trying to flank him, while the [Jadeclaw Tiger] and [Mistveil Sorceress] held the rear, their attacks keeping the swarm at bay.
Jiang Jianxin darted forward, a flying sword propelling her in a silver blur. The Area Boss lunged, its fists became wreathed in green flames but she slipped past, her other flying swords weaved a distracting dance to draw its attention.
She landed near the pillar, her Ethereal Cloud Edge slashing at the dark branches.
The blade bit deep and green sap oozed out from the cuts. Almost instantly, the pillar shuddered, its bright glow dimming slightly.
The Area Boss howled, its regeneration visibly slowing as the pillar's energy faltered.
It turned toward Jiang Jianxin, its eyes blazing with fury, and charged.
Jiang Jianxin rolled aside, narrowly avoiding a fist that pulverized the stone where she'd stood. Her Celestial Duel Gear pulsed, and she summoned her final unit: another Level 3 [Peach Blossom Wardress] from the [Arcane Blossom Court]. The wardress's vine whip clashed with the Area Boss's fist, buying her a precious moment.
"Now, Elder Shi!" Jiang Jianxin shouted, her sword slashing again at the pillar's branches. The sap flowed thicker, the pillar's light flickering erratically.
Elder Shi's broadsword descended like a meteor, cleaving through the remaining branches in a single, thunderous strike. The pillar cracked, green energy spilling out in a chaotic burst that sent the green-skinned creatures reeling.
And then, the Area Boss shivered, its wounds no longer closing.
Jiang Jianxin seized the opening. Her flying swords reformed the [Five Indomitable Sword Formation], their silver arcs converging on the hulking frame.
As its body fell, the pillar broke into pieces, revealing the Area Core.
The system panel flickered to life, updating the question marks from earlier:
