Divine Emperor of Death-Chapter 3605 Questioned
Niera saw everyone welcome Aila.
She held a light smile on her face, also willing to welcome Aila, but was a little bashful on how to go about it as she wasn't a good chatter. If it weren't for Sophie sticking up for her in many cases, everyone might misunderstand her intentions in some cases, thinking she was too prideful to talk to them.
She then saw Davis pick up Aurelia and treat her like a princess while she gave the brightest, innocent smile, making Niera's heart melt.
She viewed Sophie's daughter as her own.
However, looking at her cute son Lucian's face, she kissed his forehead, imagining the problems he would face in the future.
These two had unique physiques, one perilous and the other unknown. She could only wish they could get past all ordeals and live happily.
But there were a few matters she had some doubts about.
"Well, Mingzhi. I presume you finally got your soul under control?" She started a conversation with the Head of the Law Enforcement Department.
Mingzhi wryly smiled in response, "As much as I want to keep use of the excuse, yes… there's no unstable emotions in my soul anymore."
"Great. In that case, I have a few questions about the law. For what reason does our sons enjoy such privilege of three wives while our daughters are restricted to one husband?"
"…"
Her question suddenly brewed silence, which prompted her to explain herself.
"Of course, I'm not asking this to spark a controversy as I do think the same way you do but don't you think our daughters will feel restricted, or even less important than our sons."
Niera asked with raised brows, causing Mingzhi to smilingly shake her head.
"Not really. It is our sons who are restricted the most since they are limited to three wives while this big eater has as much as nine times their count and probably even more in the future."
"…"
Mingzhi pointed at Davis and giggled while Davis blinked innocently.
"But since you asked- I'll explain a bit more."
"No need." Niera shook her head as she felt like she understood, her expression relaxing, "I want my son to marry only one woman, but I was afraid that after seeing this kind of law, he would be tempted to take more. Now, I understand our sons will get tempted either way if they see their father having a bevy of beauties surrounding him."
"Hehe~" Mingzhi giggled, "It's inevitable. It's no use blaming him since we're also in cahoots with him. We're not the first wife, after all."
"Right…"
Niera wryly smiled.
If they stated otherwise, then they must make the example by leaving Davis but why should they do such a thing when they did so much to get his attention and finally get here?
They have reached heights they could never reach and obtained happiness that they didn't think they could experience, even with all the sour points. Even since she had her son, her happiness had increased manifold, and she was sure the other beauties were also experiencing the same or expecting the same, awaiting their turn.
It would be foolish of them to leave after foolishly entering here and managing to grasp happiness.
She was from the Alstreim Family, so the general consensus between the populace was monogamy. She wished her son would follow monogamy as the chances of getting happiness was higher that way.
Not everyone would attain happiness in a polygamous relationship. Exceptions don't disprove the rule, and they just so happened to be the exception, but the same couldn't be said for their sons, so she was against this rule.
But now, if they wanted to follow in their father's footsteps, she felt like she really couldn't do anything about it other than place a limit.
"Three is good…"
Niera nodded.
"Wait… why can our daughters only marry one husband for life?"
Suddenly, Aila intervened, looking curious.
Davis, Mingzhi, and Niera turned to look at the others and saw that the entire family's attention was on them.
"Not for life but at a time with an interval period of ten years after divorce so that it doesn't get suspected of adultery or, in the case of the husband dying, have enough time to grieve without having to care about getting a new partner as provisions are also provided."
Mingzhi explained, "But it is generally recommended to stay together until one can no longer endure the hardships encountered for the betterment of the relationship. I have personally seen the wicked side of both genders. There are severe punishments for domestic abuse, so you don't need to worry about our sons or son-in-laws laying a hand on our daughters-in-law or daughters without sufficiently steep reasons like adultery or betrayal like selling out the family. The vice versa is also true."
"It is the same for emotional abuse, like blackmailing their wives into allowing them to have more wives or the wives blackmailing their husbands into getting their resources out of their reach or threatening to leave them."
"Ah… I see."
Aila seemed embarrassed.
She was a bit sensitive when she heard that their daughters were restricted to one partner, as that would drive them to suicide.
Too much conservatism was never the answer. She was aware of that since her Cherryweave Family precisely had one partner for eternity but only for the women, while the men were allowed to have nine partners depending on their ability.
Her father could have nine wives but only married three so far. However, he lost two wives during his ascension to Patriarch and finally married her mother, after which he never got married again.
Although his life was tragic, he found solace in her mother, which made her happy.
Her mother didn't suffer, but she had seen plenty of women suffer from that kind of rule. However, it seemed like it was different here.
"Aila," Fiora stepped forward and placed her hand on Aila, "Mingzhi has worked hard to come up with a set of laws that would govern the family, leading to its betterment. I am willing to trust her, and if something doesn't work out, we can always amend it later."
"That's true." Niera nodded.
"I apologize for intervening in something I don't belong to."
Aila bowed her head, but Mingzhi smirked.
"Who said you aren't? You are now a member of the Harem Council and the Unity Forum, so you can say whatever you want."
"Harem Council… Unity Forum…?"
Aila blinked.
She then heard what these two bodies comprised, turning shocked.
She could apparently influence the decisions of this family.
Wasn't this too much power for a newcomer like her?
'Wait a minute… No harem possesses such power…'
She couldn't help but look at Davis, wondering if he was stupid or intentionally doing this to make them feel heard. However, the more she heard, the more she came to understand that there was real power involved.
She was voted into this circle the same way!
She didn't know if she should feel grateful or sad that she was recommended because Davis didn't come to her because of her determination but by their recommendation. However, if didn't need her, would he have even come?
Then again, if her determination didn't move the harem, would they have even noticed her?
Would she have been allotted this important position?
All these questions made her realize this family was extremely united. If they didn't make space for her, then it would've been near impossible to enter, finally making her feel even more grateful.
"Still, aren't our daughters at a disadvantage if they are going to watch their husbands marry other women?"
Sophie asked.
Mingzhi smirked but then looked at Davis as though saying he should take over this one.
Davis spread his hand, wondering why, but then shook his head upon Mingzhi's insistence.
"To make you understand all the way, I must bring up something thought-provoking yet diabolical."
Davis's lips curled.
Many beauties titled their heads, wondering what he was going to say, but Davis first gave Aurelia back to Sophie.
"Let's talk about a hypothetical scenario, pick and choose the lesser of two evils. Out of two wicked options in the context of righteousness, when our children grow up into youngsters or adults, would you rather wish you chanced upon a rapist son or a promiscuous daughter?"
"…!?"
His question instantly made many brows raise, and Mingzhi watched as she enjoyed their reactions. She was glad she passed the baton to Davis.
