Chapter 68: Dungeon Unlocked

When Ryan finished speaking, he knew—without needing to check, that everyone in the party would choose an auction. Rolling for loot left too much up to chance. An auction, at least, guaranteed something in return—even if you didn’t win the item itself.

Sure enough, the first to step forward was Riverbank Grass.

"I’ll go with the auction," she said with a chuckle. "Not too confident in my luck." sge stepped aside to see what the others would choose.

"I’m in too," said Moonlight Beauty. "Nothing here really interests me. Just give me some coin later." She glanced over at Nightwalker.

Nightwalker raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "You’ve both chosen. Why are you looking at me?" He smirked. "I’d usually go for rolling, but if most of you are choosing auction, I’ll go along with it. It’s fairer that way."

"Alright," Ryan nodded. "Since everyone’s in agreement, we’ll do a gold coin auction."

He pulled out a small pile of glimmering gems.

"These are worth about twenty gold coins in total," he continued. "Let’s start the bidding at ten gold. Anyone interested?"

"I’ll bid fifteen—no, sixteen!" Riverbank Grass jumped in quickly. Then, checking her inventory, he grimaced. "Don’t fight me for it, alright? I won’t bid on anything else."

"They’re all yours. I don’t even have two gold coins," Nightwalker said with a shrug. He turned to Moonlight Beauty and Ryan. "Neither of you want them?"

"I’m good," Moonlight Beauty replied with a wave of her hand. "If I ever need gems, I’ll just buy them from a merchant."

Ryan shrugged as well. With no competition, he completed the trade, handing the gems over to Riverbank Grass in exchange for sixteen gold coins.

"A rich lady, huh?" Nightwalker chuckled, glancing at Moonlight Beauty. "Not many people can afford to talk like that these days."

He wasn’t wrong. In the current state of the game, having even a few gold coins made you rich. Most players around level eleven could barely afford skill upgrades or gear repairs. Riverbank Grass likely bought her gold with real-world money—there was no other way he’d have that much this early.

Next came three pieces of level 15 gear. Though only uncommon quality, the stats on them were impressive—easily twice as good as what they were all currently wearing.

"The market price for this stuff isn’t set yet," Ryan explained. "Uncommon level 5 gear goes for ten to twenty silver, level 10 stuff for maybe forty to seventy. Level 15 gear... probably somewhere around one or two gold per piece. Let’s just bundle them together—three gold coins for all three. Anyone interested?"

The loot included two plate armor pieces and one cloth piece. Nightwalker, not needing any of them, stepped back to watch.

"I’ll take them. Four gold," Moonlight Beauty said, almost offhandedly. Seeing no one else move, she smiled, and Ryan made the trade.

"That makes twenty gold coins so far," Ryan announced. "Now for the last item—the Dungeon Scroll."

He held up the scroll. Though it was bound on pickup, players who participated in the fight still had a two-hour window to trade it.

"I think it might drop rare-quality gear," he said. "But that’s just a guess. It could be multiple uncommon pieces, maybe one rare piece, or maybe just a bunch of junk. So I’m setting the starting bid at ten gold. Anyone interested?"

The room, which had buzzed with excitement before, fell strangely quiet. The greed that had glinted in their eyes earlier was gone—like it had never been there at all.

"No money," Nightwalker said, his smile tight, helpless.

"Spent mine on the gems," Riverbank Grass added bluntly.

"Can’t afford it. Besides, I’m saving up," Moonlight Beauty said with a light chuckle, clearly unfazed by the offer.

"Alright then," Ryan said, unfurling a grin. "I’ll buy it for twenty gold coins. Then we’ll split the money."

It was a bold move. Twenty gold coins was roughly half the value of a level 15 rare-quality item, and they had no clue what would actually drop from the dungeon. If the loot turned out to be useless, it would sting. In-game currency like that could buy you a decent meal in the real world now.

"As expected of the Guild Leader! A real tycoon," Moonlight Beauty said, eyes narrowing playfully as she smiled. She didn’t mind not bidding—her share was coming either way.

"The gems went to Riverbank Grass for sixteen, the gear to Moonlight Beauty for four, and now this scroll I’m buying for twenty," Ryan said, slipping the Dungeon Scroll back into his inventory. "That makes forty gold coins total. Four of us, ten each."

"Oh, oh, oh! We’re splitting gold coins!" Nightwalker couldn’t hide his excitement. He practically bounced over to Ryan, hands ready for his share.

Ryan began trading the gold out one by one. Truthfully, he’d only paid ten coins himself—it barely made a dent in the gold stockpile he’d quietly been building up.

"Hah! I’ve finally made some real money!" Riverbank Grass beamed, standing tall with a newfound sense of pride. "Let’s see who dares look down on me now!"

"Guild Leader," Moonlight Beauty chimed in, watching the transaction wrap up, "are you going to open the dungeon now? I don’t think any of us have ever seen one open in person. Right?"

Her tone was casual, but her eyes sparkled with curiosity.

Riverbank Grass and Nightwalker both nodded eagerly. They had already summoned their mounts, clearly itching to go.

"Alright, let’s open it together," Ryan said with a hearty laugh. He called out his own steed and charged ahead.

"Wait, Guild Leader, do you even know where it is?" Moonlight Beauty asked as she followed close behind, surprised by his confidence.

"I do," Ryan replied, keeping his tone light. "You really should use your maps more. And ask NPCs."

His heart skipped for just a second—he’d gotten too used to knowing where everything was. Thankfully, he brushed it off easily enough. Nothing suspicious, he hoped.

The Outer Corrupted Forest lay to the right of Blood Gorge’s center, just above the Toxic Pools. It was one of two major routes the Orc faction used to invade human-controlled territory, and now, it was the site of their next big moment.

But reaching it wasn’t easy.

A dense cluster of corrupted beasts, all level 15 to 16, swarmed the area. The party had to cut their way through, one skirmish after another. It was a drawn-out battle, but eventually, the four of them broke through and reached the dungeon site.

"Alright, I’m opening it now," Ryan announced, visibly excited.

In his previous life, he’d never opened a dungeon—never once had the chance. But in this life, just a few days in, and this would be his second one. And if things went right... it wouldn’t be the last.

Light began to rise from his hands. Featherlight cast a gentle glow, and the Dungeon Scroll floated upward, drawn to an unseen force above the forest. In the next instant, it erupted into a dazzling blue shimmer, swirling in the air like liquid light.

The portal pulsed once... then stabilized.

Before them stood the gateway—alive, shimmering, and unmistakable.

The Outer Corrupted Forest dungeon was now officially open.
