Divine Heritage: Only I Can Judge The gods-Chapter 116: Confronting Ghost
A deafening silence encapsulated the room as Ark stared right into the eyes of the beast.
There was no movement, just two figures terrifying in their own unique ways, having a standoff. In a normal situation, the beast would have attacked him by now, but instead it watched him as though frozen in time.
Ark let out a dry chuckle.
"What is the problem? Having cold feet?"
He took another step forward and now he could even smell the horrid odour coming from the monster.
"I do have to say, you are very talented." He paused.
"Smell, sight... they are not often seen in basic illusions."
For the first time since their conversation, the monster gave a visible reaction. Its eyes widened and it took a shaky step back, a step that Ark closed within seconds.
And then Ark lunged at the beast at a terrifying speed. The beast tried to evade him, but it was already too late, Ark cut right through the illusion, appearing at the other side.
"Well, that confirms my hypothesis."
The beast was now gone, dissipating into thin Air but Ark no longer had any interest in the monster, instead he turned to the wall that was just at his side.
With a wave of his hand, the walls came apart. Dust sprinkled from the top of the tear he had created and the rubble rolled into the other room.
There was a small yelp as Ark stepped through the gap. He was now in the common room, the place citizens often came to hangout or play games.
But today... it was Ark’s hunting ground.
While everyone stared at him with a shocked expression on their faces, one person rose to her feet.
She had a lovely figure and wore a modest sundress that hung just above her knees. Apart from that, the girl wore a veil as well, albeit far more fashionable that what Ark wore moments ago.
Underneath that veil, if studied closely, one would see orange strands of hair peeking out.
Emma turned around, observing the room and then she pointed in one direction, a boy seated at the corner of the room.
Crash!
Immediately Emma singled him out, he jumped right through the window and rolled down the street, but Ark did not let him have his way.
Whoosh!
Like a violent storm, the wind rushed past Ark as he reached the end of the room and parkoured through the broken glass in one fluid motion.
Once his feet touched the ground, he closed the distance between them in seconds and drove his foot right into the boy’s back.
The boy violently tumbled across the dirt, landing flat on his face and Ark walked towards him.
"Alright, it’s about time we knew who the hell you are."
He grabbed onto his shoulder and flipped the boy to face him but he froze at the sight.

Ark had devised a simple plan to capture the culprit. He had long suspected that the ghosts were not truly ghosts but rather illusions that were cast by a curse bearer due to a few reasons...
First was the fact that they could not see the ghost when they tried to get a glimpse of it in the past, even though the ghost was definitely there.
And secondly, the ghost never truly appeared in front of any capable individual. They never appeared in front of curse bearers who could actually fight them and they rarely appeared in front of soldiers, choosing regular civilians with the ratio tilting towards women and children.
It was pretty clear that the beast was avoiding them for an obvious reason... it was almost as if its only aim was to scare the citizens just for the fun of it.
But that was not the case, Lauretta had given them valuable information concerning him and as a result they had come to a rather shocking fact.
The curse bearer was not simply scaring people as a hobby, he was cultivating their fear, because the more afraid they became... the easier it was to manipulate them. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
This curse bearer alone was responsible for the massacre that happened a week ago.
So why did they not just find the guy and bundle him up? Apparently Lauretta had a pact with the group to keep their identities a secret, now she was just being a mere nuisance but if she was to reveal who there were—
Their threat was simple and short. They would kill Damian, a threat that frightened Lauretta to the very core.
And so they took a different approach.
The person casting these illusions could not be too far from the scene of the crime, after all, he had to be close enough to ensure that his illusions worked and to gauge the reaction of his victims.
Since the so-called ghost never appeared in front of Ark, he did the only thing he could do... he dressed up as a woman and baited the ghost.
But even if he was successful in baiting the ghost, he still had to figure out how to catch him without fail. That was where Emma came in.
Emma could to some extent tell when someone told a lie from the vibrations they gave off. Those vibrations were tied to their heartbeats as well and so all they had to do was surprise the curse bearer.
Once they did that Emma would no doubt notice his reaction after which it was game over.
That had been their plan and it had worked rather perfectly, but now, they were faced with another troubling dilemma.
They had left Emma in the hall to calm the citizens down, the presence of a curse bearer was more than reassuring to the mud and individuals.
As for the suspect, he was currently tied up on a chair in one of the free rooms of a building not too far away and was surrounded by Ark, Damian and a few other military personnel.
But even though the boy was the only one bound, Ark could tell that the soldiers around him were even more terrified than their prisoner.
None of them were able to watch the boy for longer than a few seconds before looking away, some of them had even excused themselves and left the room.
This was because of one eerie reason.
The man they had captured... had no face.
