Chapter 47: White Room (2)

"It’s going to take more than that to kill them," Silver said from where she sat.

She then tapped her head with her fist, her message was clear. πŸπš›π•–πšŽπ•¨π—²π›πš—π¨π―πžπ•.πœπ—Όπ—Ί

Go for the head...

Ark closed the distance between himself and the Marauder, lifting his axe high up to decimate its head but just before he could.

Clang!

The other marauders had caught up and intercepted his attack, batting his axe back with shocking strength.

Due to the weight of the axe, he stumbled to the side, and the marauders took advantage of it.

Advancing like a well oiled machine, they charged forward with their curved swords, slashing and stabbing but Ark dismissed his axe to lighten himself and jumped back.

A fatal mistake.

The marauders all launched their swords into the air, just before he could land...

Ark tried to resummon his axe, but it was already too late. All three swords plunged deep into his heart, killing him right on the spot.

Ark shot up his feet, his eyes wide as he stared all around him, the only thing as far as the eyes could see was white.

And then suddenly a chilling cold bit into his skin, the entire area was still white but this time it was not just mindless white.

He had been here before so he knew exactly where this was... he was surrounded by snow, the site of the trial.

"You didn’t last five minutes."

Ark turned around to see Silver sitting on the same chair. The girl yawned and stared at his stomach.

Ark directed his gaze there as well. There were three massive wounds in his chest, but currently, those wounds were healing.

That means he couldn’t die, and yet the feeling of death was far too real, too much of that experience would not do his mind any good.

"Want to go again?"

Ark summoned his axe once more and nodded.

With a snap of her fingers, the ground turned black and the three infernal marauders began to emerge.

But this time Ark did not wait.

He charged forward and brought down his axe on the first marauder’s head, splitting its skull in half.

The second one brought up its sword in defense but Ark deflected it, just before jumping backward to evade a strike from the second.

The two marauders were now slowly stalling him, their swords drawn.

Ark watched them, took in a deep breath and lunged.

The three figures collided in a violent dance of steel and sparks. The marauders were far more intelligent than any monster he had faced so far.

They moved like lifetime partners, each one compensating for the other as they fought.

But Ark soon understood their movements, although effective they were simple and had many holes.

Ark struck the knee of the first marauder, causing it to stumble and then he swung his axe in a horizontal swipe, aiming to behead the beast.

The marauder’s partner, as usual, pushed forward, ready to defend its partner with all its might but just as the axe got closer, its trajectory shifted.

Ark had baited the marauder into defending when it was his actual target.

Whoosh!

Ark twisted the shaft, causing the blade of the axe to fly above the head of the first, and plunge itself into the skull of the second.

The marauder collapsed to the ground, dark red blood staining the snow.

The strength of the marauders lay in their numbers, now that it was alone, it became easy pickings.

The marauder struck wildly as it would normally have, but without its backup, its side was completely open.

Ark placed a powerful kick on its side and then took out its legs with his axe.

Before the marauder could get up, Ark stomped on its head with as much force as he could muster, spilling brains and gore all over the floor.

"Good, good! You might actually have a knack for this!" Silver clapped, watching the gory sight in front of her.

"Good luck with the next wave though."

Suddenly, the air rippled and a large timer appeared high up in the sky.

[10:25]

He had to survive ten more minutes.

Once again several spots on the snow became black and out of them, ten infernal marauders arose, their red eyes gleaming with malicious intent.

They slowly began to circle him, their swords drawn outwards but Ark was not going to sit back and let it happen.

He charged at the left side of their flank, sliding through the snow as the sword of the first marauder came.

Splitting apart the marauder from the torso, he darted to the side as another one lunged at him, stopping him from finishing off the first.

Five more were already charging at him in an organized attack while the other three were slowly blocking his escape route.

The advantage Ark had was that he was using a pole axe, and pole axes were good for taking on multiple opponents at once.

He rotated the axe around his body, creating a storm of steel that kept the marauders back. Before they could think of any logical retort, ark let go of the weighty axe, charging behind it.

Only the two marauders at the sides could dodge, while the other three in the middle were obliterated, their heads cut cleanly through.

Ark was already in front of them, picking up a sword and swinging back just as a sword tore through the air and clashed against him.

As expected, a marauder had tossed its sword when it saw the opportunity.

Picking up the sword and switching to a dual wield, Ark brought it down against his opponents.

There were seven marauders left and Ark had two swords so he was able to defend against their attacks, at the start...

Soon one of the swords was batted away from his hands, and then the other. Thankfully he had already resummoned his axe, and yet it was not enough.

The marauders were as incessant as an army of ants, they launched at every side making each move potentially lethal.

Soon, one of the swords pierced his right shoulder, scratching against his bone.

Ark stumbled back and struck from below, slicing through the head of the marauder but another one was already at this back.

He twisted his body and dived just as the marauder struck but he was blocked by the body of another marauder.

For the brief second where he was blinded by pain, he had made the mistake of not paying attention to his surroundings, and that had cost him....

The marauders drove their blades from all directions, one too many blades to deflect.

With bloodshot eyes, Ark stared up at the counter as a sword tore through his chest.

[6:11]

Multiple holes were drilled into his body, the savage beasts not stopping until he was completely still.

Once again, he died.
