Divine Magus: Awakening-Chapter 36: Duel of Souls(2)
Chapter 36: Duel of Souls(2)
Crossing his arms to protect his head, Logan prepared for the assault.
Its fist connected to Logan’s arms and sent him flying to the other end of the barrier.
With a roll, Logan landed and skidded to a stop.
Looking up, he could see the entity staring at him with some kind of twisted glee.
Logan tried to move his left arm but it just hung loosely to the side.
The adrenaline that was coursing through him was the only thing stopping him from feeling the pain of having his arm shattered.
The entity leaned forward without breaking eye contact with Logan.
The latter started running his mana art and quickly cast Dark Space.
And in an instant, both of them vanished.
Logan swerved with practiced grace to avoid the numerous attacks unleashed by what was once the noble.
Casting a Dark Shot, Logan pointed his hand at the barrier and fired it.
The spell hit the barrier and rebounded.
"Now, now. Logan. We can’t have you leaving this duel." A myriad of voices escaped the slightly open mouth of the entity.
Casting another, Logan vanished and appeared behind the entity.
Time flowed slowly in his vision but rather than study, Logan knew he had to act.
The small sphere of darkness left his hand and flew to its target.
The target slowly turned its head a full 180 degrees to stare Logan dead in the eyes as the shot went through its head.
It staggered and fell.
Midway through its fall, however, it paused, staying at an angle with the ground. freēwēbnovel.com
The hole in its head healed in an instant as it started to rise back to its feet.
Logan gritted his teeth and dashed around the place to gain enough momentum.
Once the was close enough, he performed a tornado kick straight to the head of the rising firgure and it almost worked.
Almost.
At the last second, his foot was caught by the thing he was fighting and it let out a deep laugh before squeezing his foot and shattering all the bones within.
It threw him to the floor and jumped atop him.
Grey energy left its body and attached itself to Logan.
His broken arm and foot were healed in an instant.
"Round two. Don’t disappoint us, we just might get bored with you." Its voice giggled in multiple tones as it gave Logan space to attack.
Casting four Dark Shots, Logan formed a Dark Cannon and fired it.

In the mountains, Aaron was trading blows with the humanoid figure made of the grey energy.
By this time, its body also comprised of shadows and darkness.
"Soul King, how long has your insidious influence been present in the academy?" Aaron’s usual curiosity and charisma were gone replaced entirely by a cold fury.
Like a volcano on the verge of an eruption.
"Well, I won’t say its been a year, neither will we say its been less." Soul kings vessel laughed although not possessing a definitive body.
"But my objective has been completed. We have shown you how the academy isn’t safe from our influence. Now you won’t know who to trust. They could just be me." The Soul King laughed out.
Staring at the mess his childhood friend had become, Aaron let out a sigh.
The worst part was that the Soul King didn’t notice the change in pronouns from I to We.
He, no they, had lost themselves further.
His friend had died long ago.
"I don’t have time to deal with the dead." Aaron turned to Logan’s direction as black flames started to surround him.
"Chains of Soul." Soul King outstretched his hand to Aaron.
Grey chains appeared and wrapped around Aaron’s limbs locking him in place and dissipating the black flames.
"Sorry, I must uphold my end of the bargain and so I can’t let you interrupt." Soul King yawned slightly.
"And you think you can stop me?" Aaron paused as he stared deeply at the Soul King.
"Unholy Incinerator." He spoke quietly and flames burst out from his body.
The chains that shouldn’t have burned turned into nothing at the hands of the flames released.
Aaron turned to fly when a giant hand made of grey energy blocked him.
In response, he waved his hand in its direction and it burst into flames.
A wave of energy slammed into Aaron and shook something within him causing him great pain.
It wasn’t his life force, it was something far more elusive and profound.
"A soul attack. Something I’ve been working on for a while." Soul King commented.
"Tell me how it feels. Usually, the people I try it on die in an instant so I have next to no feedback." They urged Aaron with mockery.
Looking into the distance, Aaron cursed quietly, ’Hold on kid.’ He thought before turning to Soul King.
He tensed his body and the pain stopped.
"But first I have to get rid of this thing." He spat out before unleashing a massive torrent of flames and darkness alike.
"It’s about time you know why they call me the Death Magus."

Surrounded by three Death arrows, a Dark shield, and a Dark Shot was Logan.
His skin appeared pale and fragile.
"Come on. This is barely the beginning of round six, you can’t die now." Its twisted voice grunted as it crossed its arms like it was pouting.
Its opponent on the other hand was exhausted physically, his body and been broken down and healed five times in this fight alone.
At some point, he found himself somewhat resistant to high levels of pain.
He and the entity clashed again with all of the pre-cast spells proving to be ineffective.
It easily avoided every single one and smacked Logan away.
Logan managed to dodge its following blow and was flung aside by the generated wind but he noticed something.
The physical strength of the possessed noble was decreasing.
He looked at it and saw the massive crater its fist created when it hit the ground.
’But it can still kill me in a single hit.’ He thought as it vanished from his sight.
Casting Dark Flash to avoid the attack, Logan was instead met with a familiar wave of pain pulsing through him.
His mana core was empty!
