Doctor and His Glamorous Sister-in-Law-Chapter 684 - 687 Waiting
After speaking, Liu Ergou turned to the fifth man, who was lying obediently on the ground. "Tsk. And what about you? Why aren’t you moving?" he asked playfully.
Upon hearing this, the man on the ground immediately answered, "There’s an old saying: a man’s got to know his limitations. I’m not good at much, but I am self-aware. We’re all at the Hidden Strength level, yet you beat me like it was child’s play. Even if I could get a temporary boost, what good would it do if I still couldn’t beat you?" He jutted his chin toward the others. "I have no desire to end up like them. I’d rather just lie here quietly and save myself some pain."
This speech took Liu Ergou by surprise, and he burst out laughing.
"Hahaha, you’re an interesting one!" Liu Ergou said, still laughing. "I have to admit, you’re also pretty lucky. Alright, I won’t touch you. I’m just going to ask you a few questions. Answer me honestly, and you can just lie there. When the police get here and take you away, we’ll call it a day."
The fifth man nodded repeatedly. "Ask away. I’ll tell you everything I know. I absolutely won’t hide anything!"
Liu Ergou didn’t waste any time. He pointed to the third and fourth men on the ground. "What’s their deal? How did their strength suddenly increase so much? And what sect are you from?"
"It’s nothing, they just took a drug called Burst Qi Powder," the fifth man answered immediately. "After taking it, every aspect of your body doubles in strength, but it only lasts for ten minutes. Afterward, you enter a state of weakness that lasts a whole month. And if you’re unlucky, you could even end up permanently disabled. As for our sect, none of us five belong to one. We’re just Loose Cultivators from the Ancient Martial Sects. Our employers hired us for a large sum of money."
Liu Ergou’s eyes lit up. Burst Qi Powder... I’ve never heard of that before. Just from the name, it sounds like some kind of stimulant. And I’ve already seen how effective it is. Not bad at all. I wonder if they have any more.
As if reading Liu Ergou’s mind, the fifth man quickly pulled a small paper-wrapped package from his pocket and handed it over. "This is the Burst Qi Powder. Here."
Liu Ergou took it without hesitation. Unwrapping the paper, he found a fine white powder inside. After a moment’s thought, he stuck out his tongue and licked a tiny amount. Instantly, the True Qi in his body began to roil. The sensation lasted only for a moment before his True Qi settled back down.
The dose was too small, Liu Ergou realized. If I took this whole packet, I’d get the same effect as those other two.
Liu Ergou put the packet away. "I’m a man of my word," he said to the fifth man. "I said I wouldn’t touch you, and I won’t. Just lie there quietly. I’m calling the police now; they’ll be here soon."
The fifth man nodded. "Alright, got it." He immediately lay back and closed his eyes, looking as if he was about to take a nap. Just then, the call connected.
Han Jiajia’s voice came through the line. "Hey, Er Gou, what’s up? Don’t tell me you already miss me just because I went to work. You’re such a terrible liar!"
Hearing her teasing, Liu Ergou chuckled. "Yeah, how’d you know? I miss you so much, Jiajia. Why don’t you hurry up and get off work to come keep me company?"
On the other end of the line, Han Jiajia audibly rolled her eyes. "Cut the crap. Get to the point. If it’s not important, I’m hanging up."
"Okay, okay, Jiajia," Liu Ergou said quickly. "Do you remember that Ancient Martial Artist case the investigation bureau was looking into? You know what happened this morning—I raised a fuss over there and then left. Well, I didn’t expect them to send people to kill me this afternoon. But the five of them were no match for me. I’ve already taken them down. You should get over here with some backup, quickly."
Without giving Han Jiajia a chance to respond, Liu Ergou hung up and sat down by the side of the road to wait.
「About fifteen minutes later.」
The wail of sirens grew louder as they rapidly approached his location. A few minutes later, five police cars screeched to a halt in front of him. An anxious-looking Han Jiajia jumped out of the lead car and rushed over.
Before Liu Ergou could even speak, Han Jiajia started frantically patting him down, her hands moving all over his body as she checked him for injuries. Her actions left him completely baffled.
"Whoa, whoa, Jiajia, what are you doing?" Liu Ergou stammered. "It’s broad daylight, there are people everywhere! Your colleagues are right there. Can you not feel me up in public? This is making me really uncomfortable!"
Han Jiajia finally stopped at his words. "What nonsense are you spouting, Er Gou?" she said sternly. "I’m not ’feeling you up,’ I’m checking for injuries! It was five against one. I refuse to believe you got away completely unscathed!"
As she spoke, she started to pat him down again. Seeing that she had no intention of stopping, Liu Ergou rolled his eyes in resignation. Right there in front of her, he unbuttoned his shirt, revealing his broad chest.
"There, happy? Stop fussing. I’ll take it all off so you can have a good look, how about that?"
The sight of his chest made Han Jiajia’s cheeks flush red. Flustered, she hastily started buttoning his shirt back up. "Hey! What do you think you’re doing?" she said irritably. "I really was just checking for injuries! Why don’t you believe me? Honestly, I can’t believe you thought I was joking around!"
With a huff, Han Jiajia turned her head away. Meanwhile, several officers had gotten out of the other police cars and were heading straight for the five men on the ground.
Seeing her colleagues at work, Han Jiajia stopped bickering with Liu Ergou and went over to speak with them. After a brief discussion, her colleagues escorted the fifth man into a police car and drove him away. The other four remained on the ground, waiting for an ambulance.
