Doctor and His Glamorous Sister-in-Law-Chapter 770 - 773 Naughty Boy
After a long pause, Liu Ergou finally spoke, affecting a profound air. "I don’t know if I’m full of bull, but you know damn well how badass I am!"
Hu Jing stared at him, stunned. After another long moment, she rolled her eyes dramatically.
"Ugh, I hate you!"
With that, Hu Jing plopped back onto the bed and started scrolling through her phone. Seeing that she had gone quiet, Liu Ergou stealthily peered at her phone, but she caught him peeking before he could get a good look.
"Why are you snooping on my phone!" Hu Jing snapped.
Liu Ergou rolled his eyes. "Nonsense! When was I snooping? I was looking fair and square!"
As he spoke, he snatched Hu Jing’s phone and gave it a cursory glance. "Hu Jing, I see you’re looking through your contacts. Are you planning to call someone?"
Not trying to hide anything, Hu Jing nodded. "Yeah, I’m looking for my teacher’s number. I’m going to call her again since the corn problem isn’t solved yet. I have to get this figured out. I can’t count on my senior anymore, so I might as well go straight to my teacher."
Hearing this, Liu Ergou nodded. "So that’s what it is." He turned off her phone screen and said seriously, "Listen to me, Hu Jing. You don’t have to worry about the corn anymore. Just rest in the city for a few days, then go home. Leave the rest to me."
However, to Liu Ergou’s surprise, Hu Jing refused without hesitation.
"No, I can’t do that!"
Perplexed, Liu Ergou couldn’t understand why she would refuse his offer.
Seeing his puzzled expression, Hu Jing explained, "Look, I’ve poured my heart and soul into that cornfield! I can’t bear to just give up on it. Besides, I was the one who borrowed that money. No matter what, I have to pay you back!"
Her mention of repayment left Liu Ergou stunned for several seconds before he finally processed it.
"Pay me back? What are you talking about? We’re family now. Why are you talking like we’re strangers?"
Looking at him, Hu Jing tried to explain, "Er Gou, I know what you mean, but business is business. I..."
Before she could finish, Liu Ergou cut her off.
"That’s enough. Don’t say any more. You’re too naive. I can’t rest easy with you in the city all by yourself. This isn’t up for discussion. Take a few days off and then go home. As for the corn, I’ll figure something out. It’s not like the crops are all going to die overnight, right?"
Hu Jing wanted to refuse, but seeing Liu Ergou’s resolute gaze, she lost her nerve and could only nod obediently in acknowledgment.
Seeing her agree so meekly, Liu Ergou’s expression softened. "Don’t worry, Hu Jing. I’ll take care of it for you. Seriously, you saw what a piece of work your senior is. And what if your teacher... ugh..." He sighed deeply.
Hu Jing naturally understood what he was implying. After a moment’s hesitation, she said weakly, "Er Gou, my teacher is a woman."
This made Liu Ergou slightly embarrassed, but he quickly pushed it out of his mind.
"Alright, it doesn’t matter if they’re a man or a woman. Just be good and go home. I’ll help you solve the corn problem. I’ll handle everything from planting to sales, the whole package. Don’t worry!"
Hearing Liu Ergou make such a promise, Hu Jing said no more and simply nodded obediently.
Just as the two were getting cozy, Liu Ergou’s phone suddenly rang. He picked it up and saw it was a call from an unknown number. He glanced at it before answering.
"Hello, who is this?"
The words had barely left his mouth when a hearty laugh boomed from the other end of the line.
"Hahaha, Ergou! You scoundrel, you came to the city without even telling your Uncle! Treating me like an outsider, are you?"
Recognizing the voice, Liu Ergou was stunned for a good ten seconds before it clicked. "Fu... Uncle Fu?!"
The man on the phone chuckled. "So, you do remember your Uncle! I was starting to think you’d forgotten all about me!"
Indeed, the caller was none other than Fu Ya’s father, Fu Yan.
Liu Ergou quickly replied, "Uncle Fu, what are you saying? How could I possibly forget you? I could forget anyone else, but never you! I..."
Fu Yan interrupted him before he could finish. "Alright, Ergou, Uncle was just joking with you," he said. "You came to the city without telling me. If it weren’t for Ya Ya telling me, I’d still be in the dark! Anyway, enough chit-chat. Tonight, go find Ya Ya. She’ll bring you to see me. Uncle will have a banquet ready! Remember to come."
With that, Fu Yan hung up without a moment’s hesitation.
Staring at the ended call on his phone, Liu Ergou let out a soft sigh. It looked like he wouldn’t be able to stay with Hu Jing after all; he had something to do tonight.
Before he could even speak, Hu Jing beat him to it. "Ergou, I heard. You have things to take care of, so you should go. It’s actually perfect. You can go get ready, and I can finally get some proper rest. I can’t relax with you here, I always have to be on guard."
Her words made Liu Ergou’s expression darken. He knew exactly what she meant—she was afraid he’d try something. With a grim look, he nodded, then turned and left.
Back in his car, Liu Ergou was just about to head to Fu Ya’s place when his phone rang again, making him sigh.
Why am I so damn busy? My phone never stops ringing. It’s so frustrating.
Frustrated or not, he still answered the call.
The moment it connected, Shi Junya’s voice came through. "Ergou, it’s me."
"What’s up, Junya?" Liu Ergou replied immediately. "What made you call all of a sudden?"
Shi Junya replied, "I was just calling to ask where you are right now."
Though puzzled, Liu Ergou answered truthfully, "I’m at a hotel downtown. Why? Is something wrong?"
