Chapter 518: Chapter 409: Pineal Gland Mutation

"Yes, it’s at night; sometimes she says it’s hot, sometimes she says it’s cold, but whenever I take her temperature, it’s normal."

Tian Junjun said.

"What kinds of examinations have been done?"

Zhao Heng pondered briefly before asking.

Feeling alternately hot and cold without a change in body temperature suggests it’s a neurological or perceptual issue, possibly even a problem with pheromones.

However, checking pheromones or trace hormones is something doctors generally won’t investigate, except for some extremely rare diseases.

"Here they are."

Tian Junjun hurriedly took out a large stack of examination documents from her bag.

Zhao Heng took the documents and saw that they included Chinese, English, and even Japanese and German. It appeared they had truly taken the child to seek medical advice worldwide.

That’s why they say parents’ hearts are so compassionate.

Holding the thick stack of documents, Zhao Heng began to study them carefully.

Soon, Zhao Heng finished reading the materials, but his expression was heavy. These documents showed that the patient’s examinations included all existing brain and neurological tests, and even some cutting-edge technology checks he had only heard about.

Yet after so many tests, no conclusions were found, making the situation increasingly tricky.

This expression on Zhao Heng’s face was something Tian Junjun and Wang Lei had seen many times. Every previous visit to doctors had ended the same way.

Sometimes, Tian Junjun and Wang Lei, this couple, would think about why their daughter ended up with this bizarre illness where the cause couldn’t even be identified.

"Is there any similar illness in your family history?"

With thorough checks on the brain and neurology side previously done by top experts, all possible tests had been exhausted.

And as for psychological examinations, from what Zhao Heng had seen in the results, they all indicated that the girl’s emotions and personality were perfectly normal.

In other words, for this girl, aside from the hallucinations she experiences and the sensorial feeling of alternating heat and cold, physiologically and mentally, she appears entirely normal.

No wonder they’ve seen so many doctors, yet still they have no solution. This situation feels like constantly projecting a holographic image or connecting a nerve-stimulating device to a normal person.

Given these mysterious circumstances, it was understandable that the child’s grandmother had sought out a master who said the child had a "Child Fate."

"No."

Tian Junjun shook her head slightly.

"Director Zhao, does it count if my grandfather was a Daoist priest?"

Wang Lei suddenly thought of something and said.

Regarding their daughter’s illness, he had little hope left. He was looking to this young director in front of him to find a new perspective.

"A Daoist?"

Zhao Heng was somewhat surprised.

"Yes, now that Director Zhao mentioned it, I remember my mom saying my grandfather was a Daoist priest, apparently a rather powerful one, but it shouldn’t relate to Nannan’s illness, right?"

Wang Lei said slowly.

Things had come to this point; just yesterday, his elderly mother insisted on having the master come and take the child away, and Wang Lei truly couldn’t hold it back anymore.

If there was no progress today with Zhao Heng, then he really didn’t know what to do.

"How powerful?"

Zhao Heng asked, intrigued.

"I think he was conferred some title like Celestial Master; I’m not very clear on it."

Wang Lei pondered and replied.

"The well-known title of Celestial Master is given to only the four grand Celestial Masters in Taoism, but Taoism in modern times isn’t prominent, so it’s not surprising if it’s not famous."

Zhao Heng nodded and said.

Suddenly, Zhao Heng thought of a possibility.

"Perhaps, this isn’t an illness but rather a very strong inherited ability, which we might learn more about after further testing."

After a pause, Zhao Heng said slowly.

"Huh? A strong inherited ability? An ability to be a Daoist priest?"

Wang Lei was startled by Zhao Heng’s words, as he was the first to say this, diverging entirely from what other doctors had said before.

Combining with earlier discussions of his grandfather being a powerful Celestial Master, he couldn’t help but wonder if this was a case of generational inheritance.

Otherwise, his elderly mother wouldn’t have called over those mysterious people, evidently knowing something.

"From the view of modern medicine, there are indeed very powerful individuals among Daoists and monks. Naturally, their pineal glands are more developed, making them stronger in many aspects compared to ordinary people."

"And these individuals, during childhood, might indeed experience phenomena like fantasies, foresight, predictions, and so on without any cause."

Zhao Heng explained briefly.

The pineal gland, also known as the pineal body, in humans, is a small grayish-red oval structure measuring (5–8) mm long and (3–5) mm wide, weighing (120-200) mg. It develops to its peak at ages 7–8. The pineal body is located at the top of the diencephalon, between the habenular commissure and posterior commissure in a depression above the quadrilateraleminence, thereby referred to as the epiphysis; one end is connected to the roof of the third ventricle via a stalk, the third ventricle protruding into the stalk to form the pineal recess.

The surface of the pineal body is covered by a capsule of connective tissue continued from the pia mater, and the capsule extends with the blood vessels into the parenchyma, dividing it into irregular lobules composed mainly of pinealocytes, neuroglia cells, and nerve fibers.
