Don't Want to Be Ordinary Even Though I'm an Extra Character-Chapter 55: [53] Introduction of World
-Third Person POV-
The world of Destiny Warrior is called Noctarion, a fantastical realm where supernatural wonders radiate from every corner. It is home to various races and cultures, but the most striking aspect of this world is the presence of two primary power systems that dominate civilization:
1. Force
Force is the energy harnessed by warriors. This power grants superhuman abilities, enhancing a user’s physical strength, speed, and reflexes to extraordinary levels. Force also sharpens close-combat techniques, turning warriors into deadly threats on the battlefield.
However, not everyone can wield Force. Its accessibility depends heavily on several factors:
Rigorous training: Mastery of Force can be achieved through a lifetime of hard work. Innate talent: Certain genetic traits make it easier for individuals to tap into Force. Bloodline: Descendants of specific families or clans often inherit a natural affinity for Force.
Out of every ten individuals in Noctarion, only three have the potential to use Force effectively.
2. Magic
Magic, on the other hand, is the power channeled by magicians. By utilizing Mana, magicians can create marvels beyond human comprehension. Magic is versatile—used to create tools of prosperity, assist in daily life, or become deadly weapons in war.
Similar to Force, not everyone can wield Magic. Its use is influenced by factors such as:
Innate talent: Certain genetic traits allow individuals to naturally control Mana. Genetic mutation: In rare cases, those without a natural connection to Mana can suddenly become magicians due to unexplained genetic mutations or mysterious phenomena.
Only two in every ten people in Noctarion possess the ability to become magicians.
Rare Dual-Wielders
There exist rare individuals capable of mastering both Force and Magic simultaneously. They are exceptions, viewed as miracles or unique descendants of bloodlines with extraordinary heritage.
This dual system has shaped a hierarchical society and sparked complex conflicts throughout Noctarion.
The Dark Medieval Era
The setting of Destiny Warrior, Noctarion, draws inspiration from the medieval age with its bleakness and intrigue. Unlike the romanticized depictions found in some stories, this world showcases the harsh realities of societal struggles during such a time.
A Struggle Between Tradition and Progress
In regions reminiscent of medieval Europe, knowledge and progress remain hindered by religious dogma. The empire’s territories exist under the shadow of an authoritative church that suppresses scientific advancement.
The church wields immense influence, controlling nearly every aspect of society and viewing technological progress as a threat to its power and authority. New discoveries or ideas are often branded as heresy, with free thinkers subjected to punishment without fair trials.
In contrast, neutral kingdoms like the one Arkan currently resides in hold a more progressive outlook. The church in these regions does not perceive science as an adversary but as a tool to advance humanity. These regions believe science and religion can coexist, complementing each other to foster societal development.
The Two Factions of the Church
These differing perspectives have split the church in Noctarion into two dominant factions:
The Pope’s Faction
This faction, led by Pope Tertius, governs the empire with an iron fist, clinging tightly to traditional ideologies.
Beliefs: Science is a tool of the devil meant to lead humanity astray.
Methods: Maintain control through fear, employing ecclesiastical courts to punish free thinkers and suppress any challenges to their doctrines.
Goal: Preserve the church’s absolute dominance over society.
The Archbishop’s Faction
Under the visionary leadership of Archbishop Vardis, this faction embraces a different philosophy, believing that science is part of God’s creation and should be understood and utilized for the betterment of humanity.
Beliefs: Science and religion can coexist, enabling humanity to deepen its understanding of the world and its Creator.
Methods: Promote research, establish schools for scholars, and encourage free thought within certain boundaries.
Goal: Achieve a balance between faith and progress, ensuring society thrives without losing its moral foundation.
This ideological divide has fueled both tension and power struggles within Noctarion’s religious and political landscape.
The rivalry between the two factions created tension that spread across Noctarion. Within the Empire, the Pope’s authority made scientific progress nearly impossible. However, in the neutral kingdom of Vryndoria, Archbishop Vardis’ ideas provided room for free thinkers like Arkan to thrive.
This ideological clash became one of the central elements of Destiny Warrior, reflecting the conflict between tradition and innovation, as well as the struggle of individuals against systems designed to suppress them.
Archbishop Vardis currently resided in the Kingdom of Vryndoria, the very place where Arkan now lived. Positioned on the border of the Empire and several smaller kingdoms, Vryndoria was a neutral realm known as a hub for trade and the exchange of ideas—including those that challenged the conservative dogmas of the Imperial Church.
The Kingdom of Vryndoria
Vryndoria stood as a meeting point of tolerance and innovation. Under the wise leadership of King Altharion, the kingdom distanced itself from direct Imperial influence, preserving autonomy over domestic affairs, including religious and educational policies.
Most of Vryndoria’s population followed the teachings of the church, but they embraced progress and new ideas, thanks in large part to Archbishop Vardis’ influence.
Still, Vardis was not without enemies. Many agents loyal to the Pope infiltrated the region, masquerading as faithful followers while seeking ways to undermine his authority.
Archbishop Vardis’ presence in Vryndoria served as a driving force behind the ideological conflict in Destiny Warrior. What began as a mere difference of opinion between the Pope’s faction and the reformists slowly escalated. Like a smoldering flame left unchecked, the division grew into an open rivalry that would eventually shake Noctarion to its core.
The Spark of Revolution
The peak of this conflict would unfold in Volume Three, where the ideological war between the two factions erupted into armed conflict. This battle would involve devout followers from both sides and threaten the social order and balance of power throughout Noctarion.
But before that, Volume Two focused on Rainer’s journey as a wandering mercenary. During this time, he transformed from a man plagued by self-doubt into a confident warrior, mastering his abilities with Force. These formative years served as a crucible, forging him into someone prepared to face his destiny.
For Arkan, the knowledge of the major conflict looming in Volume Three was impossible to ignore. Even though he now lived free from the original narrative, his awareness of the story’s direction burdened him. He knew the ideological war would reshape the world, destroy countless lives, and leave behind scars that would be difficult to heal.
Yet one thing Arkan understood was that his position was not entirely central to the unfolding events. He could act freely, but how much influence could his choices have on the future? This question haunted him constantly.
"Well, that’s still two years away," I muttered while gazing at the sky from the balcony. "So for now, I have plenty of time before that conflict. Let’s focus on making the best wine possible."
With renewed determination, I stepped into my workspace, cluttered with documents, sketches, and experimental notes. On the center table stood several bottles of experimental wine I had crafted, made mostly from ingredients available in this era. Creating modern-quality wine in this world? That was like trying to make a smartphone during the Stone Age.
I glanced at my notes. Winemaking was essentially the process of fermenting sugars from grapes into alcohol using yeast. It sounded simple on paper, but the challenge lay in controlling the process to ensure a stable and high-quality flavor.
Challenges of Winemaking in Noctarion
Low-Quality Grapes
"Problem one," I muttered, examining the grape samples. "The grapes grown here aren’t ideal for fermentation. Their flavor profile is unstable, and their sugar content is low."
I sighed, realizing that without modern techniques like temperature control and filtering, the end product might fall short of my expectations.
Yeast
In my previous world, commercial yeast was readily available. Here, I had to rely on wild yeast found on the grape skins.
"I need to make a yeast starter first," I thought. Using a small container, I mixed grape juice with a little honey, exposing it to the air to capture wild yeast. It was an ancient method, but if it worked, I’d have a strong yeast culture for future fermentations.
Low Sugar Content
The grapes here were better suited for direct consumption than for fermentation. To raise the sugar content, I added local honey to the grape juice.
"But not too much," I murmured while stirring the mixture. "If it’s too sweet, the fermentation will be unbalanced."
Temperature Control
The biggest challenge was temperature. Fermentation needed a cool, stable environment, but maintaining that in this world was almost impossible.
"The Marquis’ cellar is fairly cool," I mused. "But I need to make sure there aren’t any sudden temperature fluctuations." I instructed the workers to cover the fermentation vessels with damp cloths to help stabilize the temperature.
A curious local worker, a young man with a fascinated expression, watched my process intently. "Mr. Arkan, what are you doing?"
"Trying to make wine," I replied as I stirred the yeast mixture.
"But isn’t the usual wine good enough?" he asked innocently.
I smiled. "Maybe. But ordinary wine can’t match the flavor and quality I want to achieve. I want to create something that’s never been done before." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
He nodded, though his expression made it clear he didn’t fully grasp my intentions.
"What about that?" He pointed to a simple tool I’d made from wood and rope—something resembling a modern press for extracting grape juice.
"That’s for pressing grapes," I explained. "With it, we can extract more juice without ruining the quality."
As night fell, I stared at the experimental bottles in front of me. The fermentation process had begun, but the outcome was still uncertain.
"I have no lab, no thermometer, no filtration tools," I muttered. "But I have the knowledge and enough materials to try. That’s all I need."
I carefully documented every step and observed every change, ensuring I didn’t miss any details. It might not result in perfect modern wine, but if successful, this could be the start of a beverage revolution in this world.
"Alright," I said with a small smile. "Let’s see what happens in a few weeks."
With that, I closed my notebook and decided to rest. The journey to create the perfect wine would be long and challenging, but I had never shied away from a challenge.
